Who’s the better money manager, men or women?
Who’s better at managing money, men or women? The answer probably depends upon whom you ask.
An international survey was conducted by Reuters Synovate in which 4,500 women in 12 countries were polled on money matters, and an equal number of men were also asked questions related to finances.
Among the findings, according to this Reuters Life story:
Just more than half of the male and female respondents said women are more responsible with money than men.
About 70 percent of women said that carrying more than one credit card could lead to debt, “revealing women’s higher awareness.”
On the other hand, a study done by Financial Finesse and used by The Financial Brand, revealed that men are perhaps more financially prudent. For instance, the survey with 3,000 participants, showed that 71 percent of men have a handle on cash flow and thus spend less than they make each month, as opposed to 51 percent of women. Respondents also said that 53 percent of men have an emergency fund to pay bills for a few months, but only 34 percent of women do.

The emergency fund answer is the key answer in my opinion. Men don’t run to their boyfriends or parents or whoever when things get bad as often as women.

Women are better at spending money. I “hide” money from my wife in a money market account / emergency fund. If it’s in the account, it will be spent. She handles one bill and it’s always late. I handle the other 15 or so bills and they are all paid early. This is a common theme in dicussing bills with my friends that make a similiar income.

Women spend a lot of money on clothes and makeup. I don’t.
But they look way finer than me.

Some men are better with money and some women are better with money. It has absolutely nothing to do with gender.
