Peanuts and Cracker Jacks..
We may not have the good fortune of postseason baseball for our big league team this year. We’ll know soon enough. What we do know is the Gwinnett Braves are still at it, and will wrap up their regular season next weekend. Tickets are going fast, I’m told, especially at this price. The Berm seats — the grassy area surrounding the outfield — are only $1 on Labor Day weekend. So are the hot dogs. I prefer sitting out there myself. If the weather is nice, that’s certainly not a bad way to spend the holiday weekend. They’ll play host to the Charlotte Knights. The games are 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.
NASCAR specials-PGA Tour Championship
I caught some sports talk radio in the car this week and the topic was about the NASCAR points race and the PGA Tour Championship both being events worked up to get some attention just as football season is heating up. No matter your opinion, if you enjoy the sports, you’ll enjoy saving money on tickets, right?
For the NASCAR Pep Boys Auto 500 Sept. 5-6 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, there are nice deals on the website. Sunday’s race is $59 for frontstretch tickets, rows 1-9 in the lower Petty Grandstand. Use a valid student ID and you can buy any ticket in the Elliott Grandstand for $19. Adult seats in rows 21-39 are $59. On Saturday, with the purchase of an adult ticket, kids 12 and under are in free to the Fans of Tomorrow Degree V12 300 Nationwide Series race and NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying. To see all the ticket specials, click here.
Then there’s the Tour Championship, Sept. 23-27, at East Lake Golf Club. The “Family Plan” offer is great if you’re interested in bringing along your whole family. Buy two adult tickets, and get two youth tickets — for kids ages 16 and under — for free. You’ll have to order the tickets online from Ticketmaster.
This might the most fun you’ll have all year. Go to the Red Bull Soapbox Race on Saturday in the heart of Midtown — at 10th Street — and see non-motorized, handmade cars barrel down the street. It’s free, and ideal for family entertainment. There will be 50 teams competing for “soapbox supremacy,” as the website proclaims.
Music and a Movie
The Mall of Georgia continues its outdoor movie and concert series Labor Day weekend with a live concert featuring local band The Ron Johnsons on Sept. 5, followed by a showing of Bring It On: Fight to the Finish. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m., and the movie starts at dusk, both in The Village. Oh, did I mention they are both free?
Emerald Coast Coffee and Grille is celebrating its grand opening by giving away FREE coffee and drinks all weekend long. Welcome to Atlanta! It’s located in the Terminus building at Peachtree and Piedmont.
As always, for more to see and do this weekend, go to the Inside Access blog, where Jamie Gumbrecht’s got you covered.
