Date Night on a budget: Jazz | Dancing | Cooking | Golf

Looking for an inexpensive date night? You’ve come to the right place, where every week we bring you frugal and fun date ideas. The goal is to give you date night options for $40 or less. So, whether you’re a married couple celebrating love, or singles getting to know each other, you should find ideas that will spice up your dating life. Be sure to check out past date blogs, that will be linked at the bottom.

1. Jazz Concert Series — Jazz On The Lawn

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center brings many of the area’s best musicians — contemporary and classic jazz, fusion, blues, swing and R&B — to this wonderful outdoor venue for the Jazz Concert Series. It’s a nice way to unwind, enjoy some good music and hopefully, great company. Pack a picnic basket with some of your favorites, bring along a blanket and relax. This week’s show is at 7:30 p.m., Friday, featuring jazz fusion pianist, Madoca. Tickets are $15 each, and $12 for students and seniors. There is no charge for parking. In case of rain, the concert moves to Callanwolde’s indoor courtyard.

2. Get In The Hole!

Ok, this won’t generate that kind of outburst, but it’ll pump you up, nonetheless. Miniature golf is a classic date. It’s slow enough to allow you time to talk, and interactive enough to make the date interesting. And this place is a good one. Among the best in the Atlanta area, Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf in Duluth is affordable and fun. Admission is $7 for adults.

3. Free Cooking Technique Classes

Could you be the Next Food Network Star? You never know. They say the way to a man’s heart is through is stomach, and you might as well polish up on your cooking skills with FREE classes offered on Sundays at Williams-Sonoma stores. In these technique classes, you’ll enjoy how-to demonstrations, recipes and dish samplings. This Sunday, Aug. 16, for instance, you learn more about cooking with “liquid gold,” also known as olive oil. Upcoming technique courses are Pizza and Panini on Aug. 23, and Crepes and Croques on Aug. 30. Classes fill up quickly, so decide on the date you’re interested in and sign up. There are seven stores in metro Atlanta. How much is it, you ask? Did I mention that it’s FREE.

4. Dancing Lessons

You want your partner to see you move? Then, your companion on the floor and dance the night away. Swing lessons are in store for the evening; so are good times. Try these on for size: For $5 per person at 8 p.m. on Mondays, you get a 30-minute beginners’ lesson, followed by open dancing put on by Hot Jam Swings at the Garden Hills Community Center in Atlanta. It’s motto is “Swing — The Way Grandma Used To Make It.” On Wednesday nights, Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village has $5 dancing and live music. Here’s another option. Thursday night means it’s $12 for a lesson and dance party at Swing Soulstice. You can show off once you have your moves down for the Lindy Hop, Charleston and East Coast Swing.
