Do your children like salad? At these places, they can choose their own toppings, which might go a long way in making it a favorite. At Doc Green’s kids eat free on Thursdays with the purchase of an adult meal. Sweet Tomatoes in Duluth has a great salad bar; it’s free for kids on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Visit a National Park — for free

It’s Fee Free Weekend at 100 National Parks, Saturday and Sunday. This might be a great way to unwind after a hectic first week of school for many families. Georgia’s participating parks are:

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park
Cumberland Island National Seashore
Fort Frederica National Monument
Fort Pulaski National Monument

Summer specials at Antica Pasto; American Roadhouse

The menu of summer specials at one of the area’s premiere Tuscan restaurants has been extended another week at Antica Pasto. The special reductions include appetizers like San Daniele Prosciutto and Melon ($9) and Zucchinni Blossoms flash fried in extra virgin olive oil ($9). The menu also includes specially-priced entrees’.

College Night at the High

The Louvre and the Masterpiece exhibit at the High Museum will close with a special evening for college students Sept. 12 from 7 p.m. until midnight. Admission is $7 for students with a valid identification, and $5 for students when booking for a group of 10 or more. General admission is $18.

In addition to live musical performances by DJ Tabone, Tealights and Jimi Cravity, students and visitors will enjoy a night of gallery viewing, do-it-yourself craft workshops with Jen Morris and Cristina Vidal of Young Blood Gallery & Boutique, drawing in the galleries and a showing of the film “The City of the Louvre.”
