Someone recently asked that I name my favorite 15 books. It wasn’t hard, especially since I could easily refer to my personal stash to help recall some of the best. It occurred to me that I hold onto books when I could make money off of them, exchange them for freebies or even exchange them for more books.
I’m certain I’m not alone. So, here are some fun book ideas that won’t burn your pocket or leave you empty-handed. In fact, you’ll get something in return:

Children move past their books in lightning speed. A gently used children’s book, though, is perfect for another youngster. Drop off books appropriate for kids 3-and-under at any Belk Department Store July 20-22, and receive a coupon good for items in the store. Donations are accepted through July 26, but the coupon offer runs through the 22nd. In conjunction with The Junior League of Atlanta, the books will be donated to the 3,600 children served through the Sheltering Arms program.
Get a free medium cup of coffee when you donate a book at Danneman’s Coffee, a lending library in the Old Fourth Ward. Here, you can exchange, lend and borrow all sorts of books. The shop is located at 466 Edgewood Ave., Atlanta.
Finally, Atlanta Vintage Books has books ranging from $1 to $3,000, according to owner Jan Bolgla, but for a real steal, head downstairs where specially marked off books range from $2-$4. It’s at 3660 Clairmont Rd., Atlanta.
