Culture notes: Vega Quartet plays world premiere; Southern Museum offers autism program

World premiere presented for free

The Vega String Quartet will give a world premiere of a new composition by Atlanta composer Richard Prior during a free concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts’ Emerson Concert Hall. Presented by the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta, the concert also includes the Vega performing Beethoven and Prokofiev quartets. 1700 N. Southern Museum autism program

Kennesaw’s Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is hosting a special event from 9 a.m. to noon March 1 for families affected by autism. With the help of the Lionel Collectors Club of America, the museum will present three types of model train layouts for children of different ages and needs. There will be a sensory-friendly room with puzzles and activities and special showings of “The Great Locomotive Chase.” Autism Speaks representatives will be available to assist and offer information about resources for families. $7.50; $6.50 ages 60 and up; $5.50 ages 4-12; $1 off for autistic guests. 2829 Cherokee St., Kennesaw. 770-427-2117, www.southernmuseum.org.
