Meier’s High Museum landmark opened 30 years ago

NUMBER OF THE DAY
30

– The High Museum of Art’s landmark building on Peachtree Street designed by Richard Meier opened three decades ago, on Oct. 15, 1983. The glistening white-tiled edifice with its crisp, curving lines contributed to Meier winning the 1984 Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honor. In 2005, what’s now known as the Stent Family Wing was featured in a series of U.S. postage stamps saluting 12 masterworks of modern American architecture. HOWARD POUSNER
