New leader for Callanwolde
Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, one of metro area’s busiest community arts centers, has named Peggy Still Johnson as executive director. Johnson, who begins Feb. 4, is a piano and vocal performer, composer and arranger who built the Peggy Still School of Music into a program with an enrollment of 600 at three metro locations before she sold it in 2011. She succeeds Sam Goldman, the DeKalb County arts center’s leader since 1998 who died last year. More than 5,000 take classes from dance to pottery-making at Callanwolde, housed in a 1920 former Candler mansion on Briarcliff Road, which estimates that it reaches 23,000 annually, including performances and functions.
