Photographer to get Nexus Award
Long-time Atlanta photographer and arts patron Lucinda Bunnen has been named recipient of the fourth annual Nexus Award, created by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center to acknowledge individuals who have made a significant contribution to contemporary visual art in Atlanta and beyond.
Contemporary artistic director Stuart Horodner called Bunnen, who has supported and served Atlanta arts groups including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and Atlanta Celebrates Photography, “a successful photographer, passionate collector and generous patron of the arts and culture in Atlanta.”
Bunnen, in fact, helped found the Contemporary’s predecessor, Nexus arts center, in 1973. She will receive the award during a Contemporary reception on May 7. HOWARD POUSNER
Waffle House fact, fiction meet
Waffle House has come aboard as a sponsor of Horizon Theatre’s encore run of “The Waffle Palace: Smothered, Covered & Scattered 24/7/365.” Based on a series of head-scratching, headline-making incidents at scattered links in the Atlanta-based chain, the comedy sold out all 44 shows at the Little 5 Points theater last summer. While there won’t be waffles for sale at concessions when the open-ended encore run starts Jan. 11, the Waffle House Museum will host a free“The Waffle Palace Meets Its Muse” event noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 12, with the cast and playwrights on hand to meet diner enthusiasts. 2719 E. College Ave., Decatur. 404-584-7450, www.horizontheatre.com. HOWARD POUSNER
