VISUAL ART
Startling narratives
On Friday, the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center opens an exhibit of drawings and prints by Brooklyn artist Dana Schutz, whose frequently humorous, sometimes apocalyptic paintings are included in the Museum of Modern Art and other major institutions and whose work was the subject of a 2010 Rizzoli monograph. The survey show features portraits of family and friends, preliminary drawings for well-known paintings and, according to the Contemporary, “grotesque figures acting out shocking narratives.” Also opening during Friday’s 8-10 p.m. reception is “Embodying,” a group show focusing on the male body. Schutz and “Embodying” artist Stephen Schofield give an artist talk 11 a.m.-noon Saturday. 535 Means St., Atlanta. 404-688-1970, www.thecontemporary.org. HOWARD POUSNER
