‘American Idol’ loses Emmy again for best reality competition program… to ‘Amazing Race’

‘The Amazing Race’ returned to its crown of glory with its eighth Emmy for best reality competition program. The category has been around nine years. Last year, Bravo’s “Top Chef” upset “Race” for one year.

“American Idol”? Lost again. It’s been nominated every year since the category was created.

Sorry, Nigel!

Nigel lost with both his shows. Now the true irony would be if X-Factor wins the emmy next year.

The emmys will get pretty boring if they keep giving the award to the same shows.

Stayed up for the Falcon’s game last night. Totally worth it!!!!!!

And congrats to Kyle Chandler (grew up in Loganville, attended UGA) for his Emmy!

If he’d like to store it in the super-secret, undisclosed, well armed, well provisioned, highly secure but oh-so-comfy bunker… he’s more than welcome to.

It’s not like I’d pawn it or sell it or anything.

Naw… I’d never do anything like that.

I taped the Emmys so that I could watch the Falcons. Looking forward to skimming my way through the dvr’d version.

Today starts the new tv season and I’m looking forward to trying on a few shows to see if they fit. The Sing-off starts tonight so I will be taping How I Met Your Mother AND The Sing-off since there’s no way in hell hubby will watch either of those shows. DWTS? I still don’t watch that. Sorry!

Good morning! Back from the beach and boy, I want my hot weather back! Did I miss anything of importance?

Harriett I believe we’ve had enough hot weather for this year if you don’t mind.

Well, WP, what about a little warm weather, then? :)

This is befuddling, Rodney. I have never watched “Race”; how could it win over “Idol” which I do watch? Pfft!

Very cool about Kyle Chandler, I went to middle school with him in Snellville. I wish now we would have kept in touch.

Branch, I’ve never seen an episode of “Race” either. Are we missing something?

I really like Race, it is one of my favorite shows to watch. I watched a few episodes of the Sing Off last year and really enjoy it. To many choices tonight and not enough DVR’s

Just got through the Emmy Awards in record time. The one person I thought absolutely had to win…WON! Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones. Also congrats to Kyle Chandler and Modern Family(one of my favorite shows)

Rickster, you are right, and I really appreciate it! Race? Meh.

I love “Amazing Race” – always interesting, and always one or two teams to cheer for , and several to boo. Get to see places you’ll most likely never see (or want to) in your lifetime.

Harriett – take your “hot weather” and stuff it far far away! This cool crisp weather is how I’d like 10 months of the year to be – lovely!

Back a couple – Deirdre, didn’t watch the video, but I assume you’re talking about James Cagney. didn’t know he had a bro, but I certainly knew he was a dancer. Must have seen the clip of him tapping and singing to “Yankee Doodle Dandy” dozens of times. Also a good bad guy actor. Best movie I ever saw him in, “Love Me or Leave Me” with Doris Day. He was a ganster who helped her singing career, kind of forced her to marry him out of gratitude, then beat her around. A true story from the 20’s.

Sam, the video was of James Cagney and Bob Hope showing off their dancing skills. I LOVED and watched Yankee Doodle Dandy whenever it came on TV so I was aware that Cagney was a song and dance man but he certainly isn’t widely known for those skills.

I am also a huge fan of Love Me or Leave Me.

As for Idol not winning the Emmy…Amazing Race wins almost every year. Mad Men wins almost every year….thank goodness Modern Family came around or 30 Rock, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey would still be winning almost every year. The Emmys are stuck in a rut.

I still think shows that run live performances regularly should be separated from scripted, filmed shows. They are totally different.

Woodpappy – evidently we are missing something. And it must be “amazing” to win all but one year. Just never seemed to arouse my interest.

I’m not worried, Sam-A. I live slap in the middle of SC, and the motto for my city is “Famously Hot!” I will soon be basking in the warmth again–at least for another several weeks.

Harriett, I’ll probably change my tune about mid January but for now I’ve had enough warmth for a while !

A couple of reasons The Amazing Race is so good:

1. No one is VOTED off. The last team to arrive at a certain destination goes home. There is still some backstabbing, but not like on the shows where they vote someone off.

2. The great travel scenery alone makes the show worth watching. They also do a really good job of having the contestants participate in local customs that are always interesting.
