If Diana DeGarmo and Fantasia and dozens of others can do it, why not Kara DioGuardi? DioGuardi, the former “Idol” judge, has joined the Broadway production of “Chicago” as Roxie Hart.
I always thought Kara had a beautiful voice and she showed it off today on “Regis & Kelly.” She should open her eyes more while singing though. Connect with the audience!
With Bravo’s “Platinum Hit” a platinum bust, Kara is smart to try other things. The fortunate thing for her is she can always rely on her songwriting chops to pay the bills. But she obviously has the bug to be out in the public, too.
- Could Clay Aiken be the first “American Idol” to join “Celebrity Apprentice”? (I could be wrong there but I don’t recall anybody from the show ever appearing on the NBC Trump show.) It would be a good career move for him. He’s done Broadway and a few TV spots. But this could show off his sense of humor and work ethic quite well. RealityBlurred thinks the clues are there.

Thanks for the new info, Rodney. Never been a fan of Kara’s but don’t begrudge her any success either.

Oh I would love to see Clay on Apprentice! He is so witty and fun and a really smart guy too. He is a strong team player too so he could do very well. Donald Trump and Mark Burnett like him a lot. This looks to be a likely go.

Yes, thanks, Rodney!
Kara is not someone I really like, but I wish her good luck. We all need a break, and she seems to be going out and finding hers.
Clay on Celebrity Apprentice? Hmmm. I guess it could be entertaining. Guess I am the wrong person to comment, though. I hate that show.

Great for Clay.
Kara, I still don’t know who you are as an artist.

The Don needs to fill one spot opposite Clay with a homophobe to make the show even more controversial. Love Hell’s Kitchen, Master Chef, Kitchen Nightmares – ANYthing with Gordon Ramsey will be an hour of entertainment that goes too quickly. Also on the list is Survival, Top Chef and Big Brother. Could absolutely do without ANY housewife – spoiled, rich, botoxed, collagened drama queens who are in REAL need of getting a life.

JT, get out of my head! I was thinking the exact same thing as I was watching the video (there’s 5 minutes of my life I’ll never get back)!
Gee, Kara, you write contemporary songs, trying to hit the pop and country charts but now you’re doing Broadway?!? …You really need to decide who you want to be as an artist!

Rodney, so sorry to hear about the coming end of the blog (as discussed on the previous thread). I’ll continue to check you out on the Radio/TV one and I hope any regulars over there are ready for some culture shock when the Idol blog “family” join!!

You are so right Highlander! There will be culture shock.
Well, I am out of here for a week at the beach, but will not abandon checking in from time to time. Rickster, if you have any influence, keept that doggone Maria away from the SC coast–at least for a week!

Have a great weekend, everyone. Harriett: have fun, be safe. Branch: rest and take it easy – as Doris Day sang “Whatever will be, will be” and there’s not much we can do about it. Easy for me to say, who lays awake most of the night worrying about everything in my life!

I’m working on it… right now you’re looking pretty good. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed (after I finish typing though. Crossing your fingers makes it kinda tough to type well.)

Kara needs to take a song and make it her own. Show some artistry. Give us a sense of who she is as an artist.
I wasn’t all that impressed with her performance.

Did I miss the Mercedes review of Bucky Larson? From the looks of the trailers it might be Oscar worthy. She must have been so in awe that she is waiting for a second viewing to take it all in.

If it is half as good as The Benchwarmers then I’ll add it to my rental queue.

Morning!
I saw a trailer for Bucky(at first I thought you were talking about Covington) on imdb. I wouldn’t have made it available for the critics either.

I love Kara. Of all the judges who have been on Idol, she’s my favorite. She gave genuine critiques, especially the second season, without being a mean jerk. I think if she hadn’t been replacing Paula, people might’ve given her more of a chance. The thing with Casey James was annoying, but *she* wasn’t the one who brought it up every ten minutes.
(I submitted a long comment, but it didn’t go through, so I’ll try to post it in parts).

Oh, and Highlander– “trying to hit the pop and country charts”–she’s hit them, no “trying” about it–at least the pop charts.
She’s one of the most successful composer-collaborators, including being named top songwriter of the year by BMI in 2007.

Morning!
Hard day yesterday but, imo, necessary. May the world never forget.
Went to see Contagion. I really liked it but must have washed my hands 20 times when we got home. Chilling.
Not to mention, the Falcons apparently had caught the disease in the movie cuz they totally DIED on the field yesterday!
