Final audition estimate tally for season 11: 64,000

american_idol_2012_auditions_houstonAbout 64,000 people tried out for “American Idol” for season 11, down about 6 percent from an estimated 68,000 in 2010.

Here are the city-by-city breakdowns:

St. Louis (6/28) 10,000

Portland, Or. (7/2) 7,000

San Diego (7/8) 9,000

Pittsburgh (7/15) 12,000

Charleston, S.C. (7/22) 10,000

Denver (7/29) 6,000

Houston
(8/26) 10,000

I tracked the estimates given by credible news sources from each of the seven audition cities from 2009, 2010 and 2011. The numbers have been similar each year no matter what cities they choose. In 2009, the tally was 67,200.

Maybe the numbers are shrinking because the talentless realized that “Idol” wasn’t showing as many crazies last season, so what would be the point for them to try out?

PS Looked at the snippet – so that’s how Fox newspeople behave on camera…poorly!

Natalie wasn’t hired because of her reporting skills. With those skills even markets smaller than Houston wouldn’t hire her.

Morning!

My New York relatives all survived. Hope everyone else’s northern kin did, too.

Wondering how Harriett fared.

Hey, good morning, and thanks, D, for the concern. Actually, I went to Charlotte for my aunt’s birthday and met her son at the airport on Friday morning. He had flown in to surprise her, all the way from Vermont!!! He came bursting out of his bedroom on Saturday morning, saying, “Harriett, I have to get out of here NOW.” We woke his poor mother to tell her he was leaving, and then off we went. He got a flight back to VT and arrived safely. Of course, we all know about the horrible flooding there. Some of his family are trapped inside their homes and can’t get out because of the water. But, at least everyone was safe. The urgency was because he had to host twenty-six people for an event on Monday, and they were canceling all flights.

Back at work and have two presentations to make today, so may be scarce.

From last thread. Hunters can keep telling themselves that they’re “helping the animals”, but what they’re doing is murdering beautiful creatures who are living lives until a bullet or arrow suddenly takes it all away.

No use arguing back and forth about the issue, there are some very divergent opinions on it, but I know murder when I see murder!

Hope every one of our folks survived the hurricane well – I think Harriett is the only one anywhere near it.

I love the way Sam states her case and then says”no use arguing”. As the wife of a hunter, I know for a fact that hunters (the good ones) always use their kill. We either dine on venison or send the meat to the homeless shelters where stews and soups help the people who need help.

Killing an animal as sport seems more humane to me than lining them up to be slaughtered by meat processing plants. Cattle, sheep, chickens are all killed for meat. Why not deer?

Hi y’all!

D, because, clearly, deer have a better PR team! ;)

I’m not a hunter, don’t think I could be. The idea of killing an animal doesn’t appeal to me, but people are allowed the freedom to do so as long as they follow the laws.

Oh, and Mercedes, from the previous thread, who’d want a song called “A Moment Like This” as they are dying? Ok, other than possibly me. But I think I’d rather she sang My Life Would Suck Without You. Ha.

Well, Idol is still pretty consistent. I’m looking forward to seeing how X Factor does and how Idol compares.

LOL, k&cf! I don’t hunt either. But hubby and I have 200 acres of land that will remain a preserve for all animals, big and small. And, if once a year, we kill a buck and a doe to feed our family or someone else’s, I see no real difference between that and raising a pig for its bacon.

And yes, I never thought A Moment Like This was a Kelly style song. As she said, it was good for the “moment”. She also said in the EW article that her favorite AI performance was Stuff Like That There. I have to agree.

Is that actual auditioners? Or the total number of people (parents, friends, etc) who showed up at the auditions to support the ones who actually auditioned?

Aww, see, this is why I don’t think too much about being a meat eater. I had some “Babe” this morning. :?

Stuff Like That There is, for me, the best performance I’ve seen on Idol. Because that was great era of music and it was SO unexpected. Plus, she totally sold it. As far as AMLT, she hasn’t performed that song in years. The last time I’m aware of, was back during the Breakaway tour and she did a “punk rock” version of it.

Been a vegetarian for 12 years, so it’s all totally unfathomable to me! There is freedom of choice, but I sure don’t want to hear about or see any of this brutality and wastefulness of living creatures. So what you feel you have to do, but please don’t brag about it.

K&C: “Stuff……” is truly the best Idol performance ever for me too. I actually think Kelly’s “A Moment…..” is beautiful, but the song is a bit corny. However, it’s leagues above any of the other “anointment” songs. Another of my top fave Idol performances is David C.’s “Music of the Night” – a lovely performance.
