Another talk with Lauren Alaina

I spoke with Lauren Alaina earlier this month by phone while she was in Grand Prairie, Tx., but she was available again in person at the Gwinnett Arena Tuesday so I grabbed her for a few more minutes. The video is below.
We talked about her ankle sprain and the poor decision of wearing four-inch wedges so soon after getting out of the cast. And we gabbed a bit about current country songs, though I goofed and misidentified “Country Girls Shake It For Me” as a Jason Aldean song instead of Luke Bryan. (So much for my country cred!) At least I was able to quickly ID Aldean’s current hit as “Dirt Road Anthem.”
Proving what a bubble Lauren has been in, she said she hasn’t even heard “Dirt Road Anthem,” which was No. 1 on the country charts last week.
MJ reports that “Idol Live” so far is doing really well. It has sold at least 90% of its tickets in most locales so far and has had several sell outs. (Gwinnett was sold out as well.)

Review from the NC show:
“As for the gals, Pia Toscano came across better live than on television (while also showing impressive balance on heels that looked like a couple of broken ankles waiting to happen). Then there’s Lauren Alaina, this year’s runnerup, who has a decent voice but almost no presence. Third-place finisher Haley Reinhart showed more vocal prowess and charisma than the rest of the field combined; it was interesting that she, rather than Alaina, got the penultimate performance slot.”

The wife has a lovely collection of shoes but she’s hardly Imelda Marcos. And the only reason why I cared about Lauren’s shoes was her ankle issue. Just ask my wife: she will confirm I know zip about fashion (outside of what I see on, say, “Project Runway”)

Went to read the story at the Ledger-Enquirer and read this: “Garner homeboy Scotty McCreery.” I thought it said “Goober homeboy Scotty McCreery,” and I still think that may well be more accurate.
I wonder if Haley was placed right before Scotty rather than Lauren not because of skill or talent but because there are a lot of people like me (and Cowell) who really, really despise country music–and it might’ve been obvious if a fifth of the audience got up and left with two acts to go.
