‘The Voice’ final four

Dia Frampton is in the finals.

Dia Frampton is in the finals.

I’m proud of myself: I called the final four exactly. It wasn’t that tough, though.

Team Christina: Frenchie Davis vs. Beverly McClellan. Who has more heart? Beverly. She got the votes. Easy call in my mind. Christina on her judges’ score wimps out with a 50/50. Viewers gave Beverly 57% of the vote.

Team Adam: Casey Weston vs. Javier Colon. I actually like Casey better but Javier has an air of inevitability to him. He wins. He gives Javier 65/35. Hey, at least he made a stand! Javier won hands down with the public, gaining 73% of the vote.

Team Cee Lo: Nakia vs. Vicci Martinez. Nakia is good but Vicci is a step better. She is going to win this in my mind. He gives Nakia 51/49. Vicci stomped Nakia in the public vote, winning 75%.

Team Blake: Dia Frampton vs. Xenia. Easy call. Dia has the it factor. Xenia has the voice but simply lacks the other elements. He wimps out like Christina and gives them each 50/50. This was the closest race with the public. Dia won 56%.

This is the first competitive show I’ve ever seen to give out such exact voting percentages like that. (”Idol” has sporadically thrown out percentages but rarely.)

I like this final four although I would probably take Nokia over Javier if the teams were set up differently.

Yep, it wasn’t to hard to figure out what was going to happen this go around.

I was surprised at how close it actually was between Dia and Xenia. It might take a few years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard from Xenia again.

The only real tragedy was losing Nakia this early.

“I like this final four although I would probably take Nokia over Javier if the teams were set up differently.”

I actually very much agree with you ROHO. Javier has all the talent in the world, but he tends to over sing like crazy. When he first did that Cyndie Lauper song he was amazing and much more reserved. I hope he can find that guy again.

Certainly nothing that comes close to Haley in this batch, but the Final Four seems right. I like Vicci the best, but I’m quite certain Dia will be the winner. On a side note, Obama is a total douche for f–king up the results show on my DVR with his impromptu campaign speech.

I agree about Obama and DVR screw up, I wonder who from The Voice he has it out for ?
He did the same crap with The Trump !
Adam and Blake has the winner but to close to call both are super stars and will do well either way.

Not a bad final four at all. I like this final four much better than AI final four. I really hated to see Nakia go, but Vicci is okay.

I like Javier and Beverly best out of the bunch. When you can actually sing and hit correct notes, there’s no such thing as oversinging. If I’m at a concert, I certainly want the artist to provide more than what’s on the album. Javier is just fine. He’s got his own style and he’s comfortable in his skin. Christina would do a much better job coaching Javier. Adam is holding him back, and will end up costing him the win.

Dia will probably win. Her “style” has the public’s ear. She’s just an okay vocalist to me.

I think Dia has a cetain “artist style” about her, that sets her a little apart from the others. She has also made deliberate song choices that establish a little “character” to her image, rather than just yelling or screeching through a song while running around the stage. She has even resisted the urge to shave her head, wear chains and tatoo everything but her eyeballs. What is youth coming to these days?

Vicci has a bit of “stage charisma” and hasn’t gone too far in trying to eek-out a run of high notes that don’t fit the syle or message of the song.

The show tonight was really a little off-putting to me while they pimped for tears and breakdowns and sob stories, and side-stories and babbeling about how the coaches are in love with their whole team for life plus 10. Wonder how that will all play-out when the also-rans are asking for a loan to produce a record and float a tour a year from now. (Last night I knew yuh, today I don’t)

Yaaay, Heather Mac!

And, good morning everyone. What was the problem with the dvr? I knew ahead of time the president was speaking at 8 PM and so did the networks. They delayed the start of The Voice until he had spoken. I simply went in and adjusted my dvr accordingly. The menu said the speech was from 8 to 8:10 and it did not go over. I think the final four of The Voice has a nice “diversity”, in many forms. That’s something AI has gotten away from in the past couple of years. All contestants offer something a bit different for your taste (unless you’re a country fan; *snicker*). Vicci is energetic and emotional; Javier is smooth & pitch accurate; Beverly is kind of quirky, but kind of folk & blues; and Dia is a talented musician that happens to sing.

I’m rooting for Javier, because I supported his work many years ago. He’s really a neo-soul type of guy trying to break into the mainstream. There’s probably a spot for him next to Robin Thicke. Babyface would do a great job producing him also.

I wouldn’t be mad with a Vicci win (even though I like Nokia better). I can definitely see Vicci move units off the shelves. She’s really a joy to watch and listen to.

Dia has a strong chance of winning it all. Maybe the reason she doesn’t impress me a whole lot is because she doesn’t do much on stage. But she’s a talented musician, that sings okay. Kind of Kris Allenish, with a more unique style. She’s also easy on the eyes…..real easy!

Bevery will not win. I like Beverly, but I don’t know if her sales would match her success on the show. Her live performances would exceed her studio work. JMO

Harriett

G, you are right about Beverly, IMO. Attitude does not translate to the studio, and attitude is one of the things she brings to a live performance that is compelling.

I’m with RxDawg from the previous thread… The Voice is ten times the show American Idol is, in my opinion. Song selection is current, fun, and fitting of the artists… coaches are helpful and the coaches are also much more relevant than Randy, Steven, or up until her Idol comeback J-Lo, and Christina still has miles more talent than J-Lo. Numbers also don’t lie… while The Voice consistently has their artists singles in the top twenty on I-Tunes, Scotty is down near 100 with his single.. obviously that could have more to do with the song they gave Scotty.. but still.. The Voice should get it’s own blog, I’m with you, Rx.

“Do the coaches pick the songs? ”

I think they bring in suggestions. But it appears that some of the contestants veto and sing what they want.

“And the audience has limited votes?”

They did, the coaches and the audience vote were about half and half. But I think the top 4 will all be decided by audience vote. However, the audience can’t vote repeatedly for the cute one. You can only vote 10 times per source (cell number, once PC, etc.) IMO, this is the biggest area where Idol fails.

“Any previous info about why Bevery is bald and dresses the way she does? ”

Mid-life crisis. It’s one of the things that kind of turns me off about her.

“Not sure who Vicci is. How does she pronounce her name?”

It’s pronounced like the regular name Vickie. She’s latino and that probably explains the unusual spelling.

I guess I should’ve checked this before I posted in the last thread. So not to repeat myself, but: Mercedes, um, I don’t think “girl” is too nice to Beverly.

Granted, Beverly’s style is way out there, but I don’t think she’s transgendered (like Chaz) just a rocking lesbian. Honestly, I’m not a fan of her look, but she projects so much joy when she’s performing that I can get past it. I don’t think she’s going to win, but I’m glad she made it as far as she has. To be fair, has anyone asked Frenchie why she’s bald too?

Predicting the Top 4 on this show was/is a heck of a lot easier than Idol. I’m not sure Blake and Christina wimped out as much as they put it in the hands of the public, with, I’m sure, the producers’ help. Pretty smart on their part.

I do have to say that to prove further that The Voice is the Anti Idol, we’ve got 3 women in the Final 4…and two are lesbians. Whodda thunk that’d ever happen?

The reason it was easy to pick the top 4 is it was the same 4 that America voted in – all the coach picks got voted out last night. The only way it might have turned out differently would have been if the coaches had used their votes differently. Adam was the only one who tried to influence it, but it was for the person America had already voted for so it was kind of pointless. Still, if they hadn’t split their own votes, the coaches could have made it come out differently. I do think the right four advanced, though. I love listening to Xenia, so that was the only one I was kind of bummed about, but I like Dia too and she has a better chance of winning than Xenia would have.

I’ve been a full supporter of The Voice’ voting system, until last night. I still support it, but not as much. The 50/50 bailout from the coaches need to be fixed. I think they should follow through with the same method as the previous round (choose one), or give the coaches a 75/25 split. Meaning they have to choose which singer gets the 75 (or majority). This forces the coaches out of the 50/50 bailout.

One thing we find in talent shows, is that what might fan a live audience into a stand-up yelling/clapping frenzy – does not always equally translate into what we see on T.V., as far as desirability.

James Durbin could rouse a crowd, but couldn’t survive Lauren. If it goes to a pure vote without the coaches influence, I doubt that Beverly has a ghost of a chance in the finals.

If the audience did the voting, she may have a chance. Looks like Vicci was looking to take-on Beverly’s wilder performance status with her drum & run performance Tuesday night.

A good vs.bad song choice could be the difference for the other 3,

I think if Beverly wins, it will just be another sign that the music world is coming to ………….. the end of something …… (fill-in the blank) ………..she should have been on AGT.

The following is just a repeat from the end of a previous thread…….

http://www.youtube.com/user/emilywest#p/a/u/0/kSr1TCZPBZs

I see there are a few musicians on the post, that have been around the circuits, as I have been. I agree with Hariett that you can find some local/regional talent that that will rival a good number of the people in the top 24 or 16 on these talent shows like Idol or the Voice.

The girl in the enclosed video started, as a young girl, in the same studio where I recorded and helped produce an album on a different project. (Not the City or studio or label where she currently produces music) She changed her last name to “West”, when they seen she was going somewhere.

There is another young woman here now, that a friend of mine is trying to get signed, that could wipe the floor with a number of the early round female contestants on some of these talent shows. We are going to encourage her to try-out for the voice for next season, unless she gets really lucky and gets signed in the meantime.

Hope to see Heather on the show!!! I went through the paperwork for a girl a couple years ago that wanted to audition for AI, and there was plenty of it.

I also attended a “pre-audition” audition run by an area FOX affiliate, conducted at a Performance Hall near a college campus. About 240 people came and they said there were auditioners from 5 states at this event a couple years ago.

The deal was that they got about 30 seconds each to sing whatever they chose to. Then they selected a top 7 from the group, that got to sing again. Then they selected one person that was given air-fare to go to a main audition in Florida, before the real judges == no waiting in-line or camping-out. She did made it to Hollywood in fact, but no further.

You could have put together a top 24 right from that group and it would have been very good. 2 of the judges for the “pre-audition” I believe, were from the college music dept., and one cat from Chicago who I guess was with some music production company or label. One thing for sure though, although they did make a good pick for the winner for the plane ticket, they left-out some good talent for their top 7, I don’t think they really understood the young music tastes or market very well at all.

My dessert at the Magnolia Room was either the boiled custard or the ice cream ball rolled in coconut and drowned in hot fudge sauce. Always ate the chicken pot pie. It was such a fab store – every fall the fall festival with farmer’s market on Forsyth St, the fabric/sewing dept, the bookstore on the 5th floor, that wonderful bakery in the basement -I can still taste the fudge cake – that was the best icing ever! And the pecan tarts were absolutely the best pecan pie I’ve ever eaten – in all these years the only one to even be reminiscent is the pecan pie at OK Cafe. Oh, to go back just for one day!

Golly gee, thanks Harriett for the trip down memory lane. Seeing the pictures brought so many memories back to me. I can remember Atl looking like that in the late 40’s. Every Thanksgiving, we would load up and go see the lighting of the Great Tree at Richs and ride the pink pig. Seeing the trollysmade me think of my dad. He used to drive one and I would walk to his route and ride with him. A pole would come off the line and we had to wait while he put it back. Also, remember when 85 was only a four lane, two in each direction. So many memories.

That downtown Atl sure is gone with the wind… I too remember the four lane “express” ways…
even the Magnolia Room at the Lenox Rich’s was fine. Davisons… trolleys… Nana, wonder what your dad would make of the city’s insane plan to install streetcars up and down Peachtree for the tourists…

Glad y’all are enjoying the nostalgia trip. I first laid eyes upon Atlanta in 1967 and fell in love. I love the way this video is done, too. And what about that ball field on Ponce?

In an attempt to put rumors to rest, Kim Kardahian (JT’s favorite) had her posterior x-rayed to prove that it has not been surgically enhanced. (You can’t make this stuff up folks. Like the guy used to say on “Hee Haw” – “Fact is stranger than fiction.”)

Nostalgia is nice as long as you can remember it but you can not come home again as someone once said who was famous or maybe it was my father I can not remember which.

Carla, is that dc as in D.C.? My son and d-i-l lived there for several years and decided to come home to Atl again… left good jobs behind and came home to 16% unemployment. So unless daddy is willing to hiouse and support you for a while, staying in D.C. sounds good to me.

The second I post an opinion about “Bad Teacher” I’m sure RoHo will start a new thread. Aren’t we at 100??

LOL, Rickster. That would make for an interesting conversation between friends or spouses:

“Hey, how was your day at work?”
“Alright I guess. Kim Kardashian came in and I x-rayed her arse. You know, a usual kind of day.” ;-)

While there are loads of people who love being in DC, I got tired of DC just driving through it! :-)
