Scotty McCreery’s ‘I Love You This Big’ enters country top 30

Scotty-McCreery-I-Love-You-This-Big

Scotty McCreery’s first single “I Love You This Big,” in its third week, has doubled its spins and is now at No. 26 on the Mediabase 24/7 country chart.

The single has sold 288,000 download tracks so far.

The Bull spun it 12 times this past week. Kicks spun it seven times. Nearly every country station spun it at least once this past week so program directors are giving it a chance, even if many are skeptical of his future.

Lauren Alaina’s “Like My Mother Does” was only spun on 47 out of 131 country stations measured by Mediabase 24/7 and is ranked No. 57 on the country chart. Both Kicks and the Bull are spinning it about once a day.

And in other news:

- Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice and Kellie Pickler were part of a Birmingham fundraiser for tornado victims that raised more than $1 million.

- If you follow “So You Think You Can Dance,” Atlanta’s Mitchell Kelly was injured last night and could be eliminated tonight. Melanie Moore of Marietta looks like an early favorite, someone Nigel Lythgoe called the “queen of the beasts” among the women. And that’s a compliment.

- Stephanie Edwards, a season six contestant who finished 11th who lives in Savannah, was acquitted on charges stemming from a fight in a park in March, 2010, according to Savannah Now.

- Jennifer Lopez says “she’s on the fence” about coming back to “Idol” to a BBC Radio person. Truth or negotiating tactic for more money? Could be both.

Bringing with me some of my comments from last thread:

Mercedes, hope your son is feeling better and on the mend asap!

The rain was insane last night. I managed to get caught out in it and holy fireworks! The lightning was crazy. I did lose power at home for about a couple of hours. Even the concert I attended (indoors!) had sound problems because of it. Luckily, they never lost power at the venue.

As far as Scotty, the PDs may be skeptical about his chances, but there is no denying that he and Lauren proved to be pretty popular at CMAFest last week. Actually, Scotty got a very nice reception when he went onstage to sing with Josh Turner. Carrie has also very publicly shown her support and she’s still one of country’s darlings, so I’m sure that plays into it as well.

Wild storm last night in my neck of the woods. Thought the tree tops were gonna come off. Lost power for about 3+ hours. Got some much needed rain though. Glad to hear that Bo, Kellie, and Taylor are giving back.

Rain was extreme in my neck of the woods. Wind was blowing like crazy & the light(ning) show was AMAZING! Lost power for at least four hours (note to self: install backup generator to the back up generator in the super-secret, undisclosed, highly secure but oh-so-comfy bunker.)

Good morning everyone. Hope all of you are in good spirits!

The storm lasted a good 6 mins at my place. Lots of hail and rain, but that’s about it.

Glad to see Scotty’s moving along on the charts.

It’s too bad that Scotty will never receive any airplay on Country music stations.

There’s a little house that is a veggie market on Hwy 20 just off I-575 (heading towards Cumming) that has the best tomatoes and lady peas I’ve ever eaten! Unfortunately it’s about 50 minutes from Marietta (just happened to be going to visit the Horse Rescue place a few weeks ago and stopped there) so don’t get to buy from them often.

Such a difference betw vine ripened tomatoes and those at the markets, even Harrys.

Wish I could find a place that sold pole beans big and flat with lots of the white pea things inside like those Colonnade serves.

Whose team was Scotty on; team Tyler, team Lopez or team Jackson??? ;-)

Sam-A: for those of us that are not Southern-born (Buckeye by birth), what exactly are lady peas? I asked Mrs. Loveless, who is Southern as grits, and she didn’t know!

Little tiny green peas (imagine a black-eyed pea bleached and shrunk down to 1/4 size). They are absolutely delicious – very delicate flavor. Need cornbread, and you’ve got a great treat! Are you now living in ATL? If so, go to OK Cafe at N’side Dr and W. Paces Ferry – they usually have them in season, and they really cook them right! Similar to, but much better than, field peas. You cannot buy them at the grocery stores or even in frozen section. Pretty much have to find a farmers market or roadside stand (I just found some at a little stand on Lower Roswell just W of Johnson Ferry – pretty expensive at $7/pint, but worth it)

I’m bettin Nana knows what they are! She knows and cooks all kinds of yummy sounding Southern stuff, and never fails to rub it in, but then kindly says “come on over – I have plenty”, and one day I may take her up on that offer!

Thanks, Sam-A. I was just curious about what lady peas were. We are not real big pea eaters, just having them occasionally. However, I bet my mother would love them. May try to find her some one of these days. Up here in Bartow County…about 60 miles from the ATL.

Since you mentioned Nana, wonder where she is these days. Maybe she is lurking….

So speculation is starting to mount on whether JLo will return to Idol. this article suggests 5 possible replacements:

After Googling “Pigeon Forge, TN”, just because it has a really dumb name, I have decided that some day I want to go to Pigeon Forge. Of course, I’ll advocate that they change the towns name, maybe to JTeslaville. Cool place, hope had fun Nana (you know she’ll read this when she gets back).

Pink is the only one I’d have any desire to see on Idol. Love Pink – she’s very Kellyish! Occasionally I hear a new Pink song on the radio, and for about 10-15 secs listen very carefully, thinking it might be Kelly. Pink is the only singer ever who sounds remotely like the divine Ms Clarkson!

JTesla

As for the Judge list: I doubt any of them would be selected. Idol was very off the wall last season with the judge picks, and if they need to do so again they will probably do something similar. Especially since it worked (from Idol’s perspective).

My vote: Neal Patrick Harris!

Ha, I love Pink, but I can’t see her tying herself down to Idol after just having a baby. Mariah? MEH. That would just be seen as a “diva-scrubbing” move on her part like Jennifer’s. Lauryn Hill has gone hermit. Whitney AND Steven? Oh, please no. Britney fits only in the Paula “I’m more of a Dance than a singer” Abdul way.

JT, I like your vote! And how about….HARRY CONNICK, JR?

G

Harry Connick Jr and Jimmy Iovine would be my top choices. Stevie Wonder would be an excellent choice. He would have no choice BUT to go on the voice. Hasn’t Mariah done some coaching on AI in the past? I think Mariah and Whitney would be good choices. I would expect brutal honesty from Whitney, and then everyone try to blame it on her being high. I like Pink, but I don’t know if she would be a good judge. Britney and Lauryn? IDK….

How about Kelly and David C – that’d be waaaaay too cool! Though, with Kelly being paid $350,000+ per appearance, doubt Idol could afford her.

Sam-A, as much as I would totally LOVE Kelly being a judge on Idol, I can’t see that happening. She’s on track to release a single in about a month and an album coming out in September. She’s most likely going to be touring while the show comes back next season. The idea, however, would definitely bring it all full circle.

Harriett, the only way to be in TN right now is to be IN a pool. So hot up there! :)

Pitchy, last I heard Lauryn has her act more together now, at least more together than Whitney. If she were to come on the show looking like she did in the late 90’s I’d be sure to tune in every night.
