On a list peppered with tennis and basketball stars, “Twilight” actors and pop stars, Carrie Underwood comes in at No. 19 of the Forbes top 20 celebrity earners for those under the age of 30.
Underwood, who is in Australia to promote her film “Soul Surfer,” earned an estimated $15 million from her tour and the movie. She has ten No. 1 country hits and is now considered the most successful “Idol” alum to date.
Tops on the list was Lady Gaga ($90 million) and very occasional Atlantan Justin Bieber ($53 million). LeBron James of the Miami Heat, who is licking his wounds this week, came in No. 3 with tennis star Roger Federer at No. 4. Check out the list here though it’s set up to maximize page views, not convenience.
- Newt Gingrich during the presidential debate last night was asked “Idol” or “Dancing With the Stars.” He picked “Idol.” I guess that’s a better question than “Boxers or briefs.”

Congrats to Carrie, but some of these lists are just silly. Where does she rank on the under “30 celebs who are married to hockey players list?”

A nationwide audience… and John King asks a stupid question like that?
No wonder CNN’s ratings are plunging faster than Lady GaGa’s neckline.

Rickster…the “stupid” questions were asked during breaks from the serious stuff and each candidate was asked a “get to know you” question. Coke or Pepsi? Thin crust or deep dish? That kind of stuff.

It’s still a silly thing to ask, in a group of silly questions. Let’s dumb down the importance of the issues we face by focusing on questions that have absolutely no bearing on life as we know it. The news media has discovered what the politicians have known for quite some time, you only need to cater to that 50% of the population that has below average intelligence.

And of those only 30%are registered to vote and only 10% actually do. BUT probably 0% were watching that debate last night.

I watched, and the guy who seemed smartest (Pawlenty) did say Coke over Pepsi… but then he blew it by defending the former Gov. of Alaska.

I was longing for the days when Ted Koppel was the best interviewer on television, though. He always made people answer his questions, even politicians.

Carla, Rodney knows how to cater to his audience. And he’s pretty aware of the regular’s favorites. In my case, I mean, it’s my “name!”

To me.. there’s just something wrong when a person who dons the public person of a carnival freak show performer (i.e. Lady Gaga) pulls in almost five times as much as a beautiful, talented and seemingly wholesome performer like Carrie Underwood.

Let the ostracism of JTesla begin: I think Lady Gaga is more talented than Carrie Underwood. Songwriting, singing, performing (even the shock antics which are refined from other shock rockers), overall far more talented than anything Idol has produced.

JT: HUH????? I agree Gaga actually has a nice voice, and maybe one or two of her songs have been pretty good, but lordy, you can’t really even compare her to Kelly, who has one of the greatest voices ever, and has written some great songs, which were huge hits as well.
But I would rather hear Gaga than Carrie – can’t do that country thing at all.

Robert Biancowrites in USA Today: “Judges’ noisome praise hurts ‘The Voice’” and continues
“There are voices ringing in our ears all right but they don’t belong to the contestants.
All TV talent shows spend an inordinate amount of padding time with hosts, judges and sympathy-swelling back stories. But few have ever felt as out of balance as last week’s first live version of ‘The Voice’ which almost managed to make the vocalists seem like intruders.”

(slow typing makes me break this up)
“To be fair, it’s hard to make space for singing when the four judges – Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton – needed equal time to tell each of the 8 contestants he or she was one of teh greatest artists they ever had the privilege to hear. Clearly the nation owes an apology to the American idols judges for callingthem soft. Compared with tehse folks, the Idolers were teh Spanish Inquisition.”

6:36 pm
“The hyperbole took hold at the start, with host Carson Daly – a vapid non-presence… – announcing we were about to hear “the greatest undiscovered voices in America.” Contestants were told they were”amazing, a natural, sexy and hot, adorable, unique, razor-sharp, a star, beautiful” and, multiple times, “one of my favorites.” Merely being praised as excellent must count as soul-shattering criticism.”

Christina’s team now has no hair. Alll the fire side-shows and goofy wig by Cee Lo still reminds me of the circus when I watch this. Casey Weston and Vicci Martinez really do have some talent though.

So far, Nakia was the best of the night. I’m looking for Javier to come strong, but the song choice is crucial. Song choice has been less than stellar tonight, but most of the singers are pulling it off.

This Curtis guy is a much better country singer than Scotty. smh.
Oh yeah…..I like the voting process too. The people get one, judges get one, and the rest get gone. There’s always trouble when the public has too much control in the voting process.

Except for Vicci and Casey, I didn’t like the song choices so far. If I were producing a live show, I wouldn’t want Christina making all those off-the-wall comments.

Javier recorded an album years ago. His problem of not making it big? Babyface, Jon B, then Robin Thicke. Anyway, Javier’s performance just overtook Nakia. The man is extremely talented. Better than all top 10 AI performers put together.

Blake had the strongest team overall. I would’ve saved the guys, but you can’t be mad at the selection. Both girls have something unique to offfer.

Blake now has 100X more future “breaking into the top 50 Billboard potential” with his team, than Christina does. Dia Frampton did well on ITunes downloads. Xenia has a very distinctive voice that could catch-on in the biz, with the right original song. Her performing skills and audience engagement will need a lot of work though,
The music business today, is more crowded, YouTubed, Video driven, Big Label Protected for promo, and “big break” oriented than ever. For the kind of success we see for Carrie, Kelly, Faith & Tim, etc., even a great singer/performer needs a huge publicity machine, such as Idol, or a deep-pockets label willing to take the risk to promote them.
I think Frenchie’s and Javier’s time has come and gone as far as having a chance for any extended stay in a major spotlight. Beverly is a novelty act that can belt-out a rocker song alright, but for the long term – I can’t see her getting past 2nd base in the real biz..

Morning!
Watched the USA soccer team(since this must be a sports blog) stumble their way into the quarter finals of the Gold Cup last night. I do not have high hopes for this team unless they find some way to get their act together.
Saw bits and pieces of AGT and Voice last night. Yuck to both! AGT’s preliminary auditions make Idol look like the Boston Pops compared to Hee Haw. The Voice was again, all about the judges. Excuse me, coaches.
