I ponder Scotty, “The Voice” and “America’s Got Talent” here:

First? And I’m not even at home!
This Uggla fellow on previous thread – Swedish hockey player? If so, Uggla means “owl”.

Nice work again Rodney. Agree with you on AGT. Seems like a singer almost always wins but the variety can be fun. I think AGT would be more fun if they didn’t take themselves so seriously….adding Howie Mandel has helped.

The Voice still isn’t winning me over. I HATE the dueling duets. I think the judges have done a poor job making sure that a super talented person is paired up with someone who nees to bring their A game to stay on. Too often, a good person gets dumped from a great group and the judge has to pick a mediocre from a so-so group. Doesn’t work for me.

Okay… since I’m sure everyone is curious from about 2:49 post in the previous threa, here’s my Three Dog Night story:
A friend of mine & I went to see TDN at the Agora Ballroom (across the street from the Fox.) We lucked out and got a stage-front table.
The band came out & started jamming. Their drummer – Floyd Snead – was pounding away. Every so often, he’d toss a battered stick toward the front of the stage. I grabbed one… and started tapping away with it against the stage.
Floyd saw me & started smiling.
A few minutes later another one came close enough for me to grab it. I started trying to keep up with Floyd as I drummed on the stage. Based on the smile on his face, I think Floyd was impressed.
My friend complained, “C’mon man! Give me one.”
The next time Floyd looked my way, I held up the drum sticks, pointed to them, then to my friend with a pleading look on my face.
Another smile… and another stick came flying my way – which I dutifully gave to my (now happy) friend.
A little while later, a VERY pretty girl saw me with the sticks and struck up a conversation. “How did you get those?” she asked. “Oh… Floyd and I are buddies. We go WAAAYYY back” I embellished.
“Can I have one?” She asked.
“Oh… I think you probably can.” I replied.
The next time Floyd looked my way, I held up the drum sticks, pointed to them, then to the young lady on my right.
Floyd saw me… then appeared to laugh.
With a knowing smile from Floyd, another stick came my way – which I dutifully gave to the young lady.
Not only was she impressed – she was VERY grateful.
And with that… I bid you all a fond good evening.

Nice job, Rodney! Sorry, D, I’m fully on board the Voice bandwagon. Even dig the dueling duets The only thing I dislike are where they have a duos vs solos….gotta stomp that out next year. Aplles and oranges.
Most of all, I enjoy the coaching and mentoring the contestants get from the judges. Idol should pick up on that, it would really improve the credibility of the show.

So apparently Michael Slezak has been chatting on video all season with Melinda Doolittle. The link that follows is a series of videos in which Michael and Melinda talk about this season and, specifically, the finale. If you don’t watch them all, at least watch the first, in which we hear a lot from Melinda about the doctor who treated Lauren’s voice. it appears that Lauren was not the first to need a shot to keep their voice going.

D, Slezak is simply the best. Cannot wait for his Haley interview. His Crystal interview last season was epic!

Scottie will be a hit. Maybe even a Duet Hit with runner up? He’s got the voice and with the right people behind him, he’ll go far.

Neg, Slezak is always fun and it is good to see Melinda talking about the season as well. She lets slip some interesting tidbits from her season and her polite disdain for Idol’s pimping of Lauren is interesting as well….the doctor comes out …IN SCRUBS…to assure the world that Lauren is ok thanks to some wonder drug. Melinda said she also needed to get that shot, so did Jordin and she said she was told it was pretty common…almost EVERYONE loses their voice during the season. So why did it seem necessary for the doc to talk about Lauren when Idol didn’t spread the word about anyone else.
I remember Kat talking AFTER the show about blowing out her vocal cords, getting a shot from the doctor and fearing that she would not be able to sing in the finale.

Morning, everyone. Finally watched a bit of “The Voice” last night (since it was on after AGT.) Weird show! I hope the others that have been put through are better than the ones last night.
And what’s with Cee Lo? At first I thought he looked like a mutant Oompa Loopa. Then I heard a voice saying “Every Halloween, Charlie Brown, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch, and flies around the world bringing presents and candy to all the good boys and girls.”

Rickster: I love 3 Dog, especially “Liar” and “Eli’s Comin”! I have my own story. Dating the singer in a rock/soul band, and they got a gig at The Golden Horn, a club owned by James Brown, next to Jr Varsity on Cheshire Bridge. Had a stageside table. The band opened for Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles. During “Vous Les Vous…….” Patti came over and pulled me up on stage and stuck a mic in my face. Of course I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, and just stood there frozen! The most embarassing thing ever! Your story was a much happier one!
