Randy Jackson: all judges will be back in 2012

AP

AP

We’ve all speculated that Jennifer Lopez and/or Steven Tyler might not be around in 2012. Tyler has a new single and a book. Lopez’s music career has been resurrected. And “Idol” has been a factor.

Is the exposure and time commitment is worth sticking around another year? Perhaps.

Randy Jackson told George Lopez on “Lopez Tonight” on TBS he’ll be back for an 11th year and his two partners will be there, too.

Then again, J. Lo hasn’t been quite so definitive in other news reports.

Interesting. The folks in the UK were not pleased the way Cheryl Cole got dumped stateside. The Britain’s Got Talent audience actually booed Simon for that.

Wonder, could we all start a grass roots campaign to boot at least ST and call Jimmy I up for duty as a judge? Don’t believe I can take another season of “Beautiful – that was just beautiful” for every single contestant again!

The only thing I can give ST any credit for – he did instantly pick Lauren as “the one” – not too far off!

Mercedes: from a couple days ago Thanks. All went well Saturday. And will be looking in the next few days for word on “Super 8″ (opens a week from this Friday- yeah!). This weekend saw a preview for a movie with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds as best friends who switch bodies after they take a leak in a wishing fountain and say they wish they could switch. Looked absolutely hilarious!

I don’t blame them for booing him. I understood her. So what she says “braun” for “brown,” or has other funny ways of saying the same word we Americans say. So what. Most have a dialect that may be difficult to understand, but we don’t bar them from television (well, may be do because I don’t see any Jamaicans/Rastas on tv (LOL)). We simply get used to how they phrase things.

Is this good news or bad news? I’m not sure. I think I can deal with another season of J.Lo, but rock-god Tyler disappointed me. I would vote for him to move on and be replaced by Jimmy Iovine or someone similar who would give actual critiques.

I’m sure Nigel is listening, too!

Oh, and goodbye to the Thrashers. It’s sad that the ownership group was so dysfunctional and didn’t put a good team out on the ice. I am so glad I did not get vested in this team like I did the Flames. Their sale and move to Calgary really bummed me out on the NHL.

I wouldn’t mind seeing either JLo or ST come back next season but they have to get over their rookie year nice-fest and tell it like it is. They are afraid to get booed…well, they are going to get booed by me if they don’t get with it.

I like the suggestion of moving Jimmy to the judges table. At least that guy wasn’t afraid to say what he thought.

Branch! Mee too! It broke my heart when the Flames were sold. Missed Bobby McMillan, Danny Bouchard – all our great players – desperately. Spent the next 10 years making one or 2 trips each fall to see the Flames play at MSG, at the Islanders, and then to NJ for the Devils games. Luckily I was in investment business and my job dealth with NY clearing banks so we had fabulous seats for every game.

We went to every single “Save ;Our Flames” rally – still have the t-shirts!

Neg…my guess is that the problems between Haley and the Idol folks go both ways. They like controlling their people and Haley doesn’t look like she tolerates being controlled very well. Her attitude toward the judges during any negative criticism was not what you would call stellar and I’m pretty sure she was giving the Idol folks fits as well.

That being said, many times they deserved whatever she might have dished out.

I was not a hardcore hockey fan, but I used to enjoy going to Thasher games. The games I’ve attended the past couple of seasons made it clear that ownership didn’t care. So, goodbye Thrashers. I’ll have to go to Nashville for my hockey now.

Sam-A, the movie with Ryan Reynolds is called The Change Up. It was filmed here back in the fall. I was an extra, the day they filmed at Turner Field. I got to see him and Olivia Wilde. Also, the bar you see them drinking in the trailer is Joe’s on Juniper. :)

K&C: What fun! When the movie opens, please tell us what you were wearing and where you were sitting so we can look for you!

Branch: Loved the Flames! Do you remember when Jim Craig joined the Flames after the ‘80 Olympics? Wow – we got THE Olympic Hero – too cool! One Sat am my best friend called to say Jim C and other Flames were sitting at the counter at the Dunkin Donuts on 41 around the corner from Iceland practice rink. We were there in a flash, and sat near them at the counter. The waitress came to take our order and asked if we knew who the good-looking guy down the way was. Of course we played dumb!

I remember my late brother won second-place in a banner contest one time, at the Omni, with a banner that featured Craig in goal. He got season tickets to the Braves, back when they were not good at all.

I also remember going to practices at Iceland. Wow, seems like ages since those days. I must be getting old(er)…

I had a friend that worked for the Flames. On back-to-back home-away game nights, he’d be responsible for staying overnight and getting everything packed to go to the airport.

A group of us that played street hockey would go down on those nights, and he’d let us in and we’d sit in the VIP boxes in the corners.

After the game, we’d leave, go hang out at the Omni International for 90 minutes or so – then go back over. He’d let us back in, and we’d pull out the goals, put on the gear and play hockey till 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. I played goalie since 1) I couldn’t skate well, 2) had bad ankles (goalie skates were much stiffer in the ankles) and 3) took up a lot of room in the goal since I was tall.

After changing back into our “civvies,” we’d help him launder all the stuff, pack up the equipment, etc. and leave (bleary-eyed) around 8:00 AM.

VERY cool!!

You ain’t had your teeth rattled till you’ve been hit on the mask with a hockey puck. (The pucks are frozen by the way.) Unlike today’s cage helmets, the old ones were a hard shell with very thin cushions across the forehead, the cheek bones and the chin/jaws.

I wore Phil Myre’s mask. ;-)

Rickster: We may well have seen each other before! I used to go to TJ’s sometimes too. Who knows, you may have asked me to dance! When we went to NY to see the Flames, we’d always stay at the Sheraton @ 56th and 7th – 2 blks off the Park. That was the Flames “home” hotel in NYC. They’d always recognize us in the lobby or coffee shop and check to make sure we had tix (at MSG we always had the Chase Manhattan box seats!). At home, we always sat right behind the home goal – best seats in the house.

Lordy, I miss the Flames, being young, thin and cute! Being old ain’t all that great. Only good thing I can come up with is having seen the Beatles several times!

I’m glad they’ll be back. I do agree with everyone else though, ST and JLo need to be better next season. I thought Tyler was phenomenal during auditions and I really do think he knows more about music than Jackson OR Lopez. He’s smart. But when it got down to those twelve, he had a tough time judging. Lopez, for me, was just consistently alright. Jackson really stepped up this year. They all had great chemistry – Tyler and Lopez just need to get better.
