In some ways, I’m more shocked by tonight’s result than Casey Abrams getting the fewest votes two weeks ago.
Pia Toscano is a goner. She was an early favorite, has been seriously considered a contender to win or at least make the top 5. Instead, she’s the fifth woman in a row to leave the show (Casey getting saved, notwithstanding.)
I’m trying to figure out what happened to be honest. This is up there with Chris Daughtry leaving season five. It’s the type of departure that may result in a lot of people refusing to watch the show again.
“I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t know what to say,” Jennifer Lopez said.
“I never get mad. This makes me mad!” Randy Jackson said.
“America. A mistake is one thing, but lack of passion is unforgivable,” Steven Tyler said.
On the Zap2It “Idol” panel, not a single person picked Pia to go home. The consensus? Stefano Langone. He was in the bottom two. Jacob Lusk was in the bottom three, too, and many considered him vulnerable as well, especially after his arrogant comment that folks who don’t get him should look in the mirror themselves, ahem.
I honestly thought she was a shoo-in for the top 5 and had a very real chance of winning.
Russell Brand, Lynyrd Skynrd cover, a visit to TMZ, Constantine Maroulis, Iggy Pop. This was one strange night across the board.
Pia’s obvious faults are her basic dull personality and inability to move on the stage. She’s pretty and has an amazing voice. The latter two strengths helped carry Katharine McPhee season five to the top two.
Conspiracy theorists now think the voting is rigged in some way. I can’t imagine the producers would get rid of Pia now by choice. But maybe the online voting has altered the demographics of the voting somehow – against anyone who likes the ladies.
Perhaps we should start a “Save the Idol Girls” campaign next week!
Here were the Cover it Live polling results during the show:
Iggy Pop’s “Real Wild Child” 91% hated it
The group sing mash-up of “Sweet Home Alabama” with “I Love Rock and Roll”: 75% considered it sacreligious
Who has the worst facial expressions singing? 74% for Jacob, 16% for Scotty, 5% James
Ford commercial: 50% liked it, 50% didn’t
Stefano announced in bottom three: 66% thought he was going home at this point
Constantine’s “Unchained Melody” 26% liked it, 76% didn’t
Gwen Stefani’s styling choices: 85% hated it
Pia in bottom three: 66% shocked
After bottom three named, only 13% thought Pia would go home while 63% opted for Stefano (and were wrong)
TMZ bit: 37% found it funny, 21% thought it could have been snarkier, 42% hate TMZ
Pia leaving: 72% deemed this terrible

Idol just guaranteed that its viewership will plummet. She was the only singer that could revive the show and prove Idol winners can make it big. Instead the remaining contestants will amount to nothing and this show will end on a low note.

If the judges are upset at America’s vote, perhaps it will jar them into give more realistic feedback rather than telling wonderful praises of each performance! I hope so.

Pia, no matter how hard she tried, couldn’t connect with the audience with anything other than her looks. Her voice, while very good, is practically emotionless. Everything Pia sang sounded good but it didn’t feel good.
That being said, there’s a really weird thing going on with the females being eliminated. Stefano, Jacob and Paul should have been gone a long time ago. I’m voting for a girl next week no matter what!

It obvious, you got three dumb asses as judges. You don’t use your save the so early. I would think you judges would have your top 4 when you got the the top 12. Casey was good but not an American Idol. You just voted off another Jennifer Hudson. By the way, Ryan Seacrest, time for you to go too!

“I vote for Stefano to go. He is the misfit of the bunch. Granted, I’ve guessed 0 right so far, so it will probably be Jacob (went first) or Casey (just because) or Pia (her people got lazy).”
I think the Pia part is key, her people got lazy and thought she was safe. They didn’t vote. There is a lot of talent, and those with limited talent have fans who know that they are in trouble and vote like crazy to save them. If the fans don’t vote like crazy for those that they think are “safe” then they get the boot. Plain and simple.

I’m not even sure I’ll watch the rest of this season now. She had the best voice – male or female – on AI since Katherine. Unbelievable. The problem is the little teeny-boppers, 12-16, who vote multiple times for a cute guy, even if he can’t sing. AI Producers need to change this…one vote from any cell number. Casey gets the save, Pia’s gone. Try wrapping your brain around that one. Paul, Stefano, and Jacob are still on the show? Yeah. This stinks.

If people can not see how flawed the whole “voting” scam is by now, then something is seriously screwed up with peoples thinking. This girl has the potential to be the next Celine Deon, and in my opinion with the right people behind her will be. This is the best thing to happen to her right now because after the year required tour she is free of some of having to make yet another disapointing American Idol produced album. I just hope she gets the right representation to catapolt her to the top, where she belongs.

Also, I think this is by far the most talented group they have had in years and I’m thinking this is just the beginning of “letdowns” but I also feel that a number of the remaining contestants have a lot of potential…..a good lesson for all of them is not to “assume or take anything for granted”.

American Idol, I am done. The voting is a joke. The judges this year although refreshing from some of Simon’s past year comments and antics are not being fair to these young artist with the over abundance of accelades. I admit this years talent was about the best group ever to be assembled, the voting is obviously skewed by an over abundance of young teen females. That is the only sound reason for someone as talented as Pia being voted off at this time. Of course this is coming from an adult male that appreciates great artists, male, female or whatever color of skin they may be.. I’m sure her (Pia’s) future will be bright, it will just take her on a few more roads down life’s path to achieve it based on this evenings voting results. In the future you need to bring another Judge ( like a Simon) on board to critic the singers as they should be. It truly would be in their best interest.

I am not a Pia fan (boring!), but I find it hard to believe that online voting and texting totally overcame the results shown on DialIdol.com, where she had the second highest total and was predicted safe. I wonder if there is some technological manipulation going on, as was rumored during the Adam/Kris final. I think they need to make sure that only votes cast “by hand” can count.

What I find so hilarious is that this same people that are glotting over their “favorite” not getting voted off will be the same ones here next week whining about the injustice. The proof is in the pudding once Pia puts out her studio album the ones who truely love her will buy her album and support her profession, if not she will end up like David Archuletta and loose her contract to an artist that actually make these studios money. SIMPLE AS THAT!!!!

This is the all-time low for me for A.I. How does the best singer in the last 4 or 5 seasons get the axe so soon? And whats up with all the women so far being voted off the show. Their is no one left with the “Star Quality” tha Pia had and she will make a name for herself in the industry in the near future. She has the looks, voice and personality to be a Star. Pia – don’t worry girl you are gorgeous and have a beautiful voice – you have a career no matter what as someone said above, look at the ones who didn’t win but have great careers!! I agree that they need to change the rules and only allow each person to vote for one person each time and maybe even give the judges another save and hopefully this will help the judges keep the saves for later in the competition so that when something this WRONG happens they can FIX it. I have a feeling there will be a lot of people that quit watching the show. Don’t be sad Pia you have a wonderful career ahead of you

I knew opening it to internet votes would ruin it. Before usually the best candidate won (exception Taylor Hicks) One candidate could have a miliion fans voting once by phone and lose to a candidate with 25000 fans voting 50 times on the Net. America is one man one vote and Idol should be no different if it is going to Be “American” Idol. It should be Nazi Idol where a small number of people can take controlk and ruin it to where it will never be the same.

On some level, I actually get it. Pia is a really good singer (parts of it does get shrilly though). BUT, she is simply boring. Then she sung in the middle of everyone so she was forgotten. Even then, she sang ballad after ballad at the beginning of the comp so I bet she lost some of her voting support doing that.
My girl is pissed and wants to punch somebody lol.
But still, she should NOT of gone before some of the others like Jacob, Stephano, and Paul. Who the hell votes for these jokers? Honestly Idol will probably have to do something to tweek the voting or the morons that vote in winners like Lee Dewyze last year will ruin this show.

The over the top reaction from the judges was uncalled for. How do you think poor Stephano felt when everyone started booing? Jlo has got to go. She’s a horrible judge!

@Idy … (this is a SINGING contest, not a personality contest) …
I agree, it’s not a personality contest, but it IS a performance contest … and Pia is not a performer. She is a good singer, and will probably have some success with CD sales. But I would not pay money to watch her stand in one spot and belt out ballad after ballad. Her tears at the end were the only emotion she’s shown all season.
