Hopefully it is a good night, big catalog to choose from.

And I can see show live after all!

I think I’ll just stay in the ol’ slow, need to refresh, blog tonight. The coveritlive is too distracting for me. I pay more attention to it than I do the singers. Apparently my brain no longer functions on as high a level as it used to function.

Ben Lurkin

D. I think I might join you. We may have the same problem. Coveritlive is great when I can’t get to a TV, not so great when I can watch live.

I’ll look forward to the company, Ben.

Anyone here plan to watch the “musical” Grey’s Anatomy tomorrow night? Might bring me back for the first time in ages.

Deirdre

I still enjoy Grey’s. This year has been lively and interesting. I’ll watch the musical episode as soon as I get back from San Jose.

Scotty picked the best possible EJ song for himself…and again, he does a nice job…the “love you, grandma” won’t hurt him either.

Hey Harriett!

Harriett

That’s the song I figured he’d have to do, if anything.

Deirdre

Uh oh…the last time someone tried to put a reggae twist on a song, he almost got laughed off the stage.

thanks, Naima and reggae wow!

Harriett

8:20 pm

She will get criticized for this, but I like it.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:22 pm

I kinda liked Naima tonight. Her voice won’t take her any farther than the chorus of a Broadway show but that wasn’t too bad. The raggae wasn’t all that good

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:22 pm

I’m huge roots reggae fan and she KILLED it. That will be a huge hit in Jamacia

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:22 pm

But she will probably will be going home

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
8:23 pm

The I Three, Ben? I kept thinking that. I actually loved this performance for Naima.

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:27 pm

Well she is no Judy Mowatt, but it was good.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:27 pm

I agree that she did a good job…not sure the raggae is going to work with this audience, unfortunately

bettyd

March 30th, 2011
8:28 pm

Naima sounded out of breath to me, which made some of her voice shallow. She also made up the Jamacan accent, which I thought was odd. Her performance stage presents was great as usual, though

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:29 pm

Paul and Rocket Man…omg!

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:30 pm

betty, I think Naima’s voice isn’t very strong no matter what she sings

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
8:31 pm

I like Paul but this is awful

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:32 pm

Paul= OK until the refrain. Better than last week

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:33 pm

Well, it wasn’t awful. I don’t like his voice. I get what he’s trying to do…I get the style he’s trying to evoke…I just don’t get him

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:36 pm

D. you nailed it.

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
8:36 pm

I did not like any of it. And, as I said, I like Paul. Wish he had done something else. But, here comes Pia. Not a fast song, but…

Deirdre

Pia is not letting the sun go down on her ….ballad! She’s promising to sing an uptempo next week…again

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:39 pm

I think I may have just joined the Pia train. IMO, that’s the best she’s done so far

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:39 pm

Maybe it was the mix, but I thought she was oversinging it

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
8:46 pm

I guess they have the schedule for the year. How would she know she is doing “River deep, Mountain High?

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
8:47 pm

Before tonight, Pia left me kinda cold. She sang nicely but there was no emotion…except the acted kind. Tonight she seemed to get the song.

Deirdre

Elton would have liked it.

The thing I like about James…you never worry…you know he’s got the voice, you know he’ll hit the notes. He’s fun..and a little crazy

Harriett

March 30th, 2011

Loved it, scream and all. Very, very good. He has seasoned soooo much and is the most comfortable of all of them on the stage.

dondee

9:15 pm

LOL….Pepsi Moment! That was pretty funny, especially when Ryan reminded him Coke is a sponsor!

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:15 pm

Absolutely nothing wrong with the scream…perfectly pitched and suited the song.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:16 pm

Well..the Pepsi moment to which he refers was not a good thing

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
9:17 pm

Ok, I stand corrected on the scream….(But I didn’t like it)

dondee

March 30th, 2011
9:19 pm

No, not saying THAT Pepsi moment was funny…..just that he makes that reference and Co Cola is a big time sponsor of the show….that’s all……

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:20 pm

Thia is singing Daniel Could be good but she’s so unemotional that she may ruin the song

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:22 pm

Well Thia…that was lovely!

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
9:23 pm

Technically great, but there was a lot missing

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
9:23 pm

Did not connect emotional with the song at all. D, lack of emotion is going to kill her.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:24 pm

dondee…that’s what I meant…it doesn’t hurt Coke for him to mention a bad moment in Pepsi’s history. I wonder how the powers that be at Coke will react.

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
9:24 pm

Her singing is lovely but mechanical

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
9:25 pm

Probably the purest voice in the competition. If she had waited for a couple years, Wow

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:26 pm

I thought it was her best performance so far. She’s still not old enough? experienced enough? to know what she’s singing but this is the first time I’ve seen a genuine effort from her to connect with the song instead of just making it sound pretty.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011

Casey is singing Your Song…..I hope we see great Casey instead growly Casey

He is TERRIBLE!!!

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011

Nope, he didn’t fumble at all. That’s exactly the way the song is written

Harriett

Casey is back! CAn’t wait to see what Jacob does and if he is still listening to advice.

ItzMe

March 30th, 2011
9:43 pm

Jacob’s voice… BANANAS!!!

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:44 pm

I liked Jacob except for the last note

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011
9:45 pm

It’s clear that he is working on the over dramatics. He did a great job.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:45 pm

I felt like his last note was a little sharp…but he did a beautiful job with the song.

Harriett

March 30th, 2011
9:48 pm

I thought he did a great job, too. You can tell he is listening to his producers. I agree about the last note, but totally disagree with Randy.

Deirdre

March 30th, 2011
9:54 pm

Elaine Benes dances to Bennie and the Jets.

Actually, Haley isn’t doing a bad job with the song…she’s not on the bottom but probably will be bottom 3.

9:55 pm

Best performance of the night?????????? What the hell is wrong with Randy?

Ben Lurkin

March 30th, 2011

Mrs. Lurkin says she is a little squeaky clean for what she is trying to do. Sounds good to me.

I was gonna say the same thing Mercedes. I had to restart my computer b/c it got so jammed up.

But pretty much agree with your top 3. Would put Haley further down. And the rest just blend together for me

I love, love, love Naima….what is all the hate towards her? She’s beautifull, unique and exactly what we need after the last few years of STALE Idols!!! And though my name sounds ethnic…I AM WHITE!!!

Kiki D

Mercedes I completely disagree with your order. James first? No way…I like him – he’s one of the best – but he was NOT the best tonight.

Bottom 3: Naima, Casey, Paul

RxDawg

March 30th, 2011
10:25 pm

So… first the bad. Thia, Stephano, Namia, or Paul could all go home. They were bad, just bad. One of the judges said Thia picked just the right song….WHAT!? I completely thought the opposite.

Now, I’m going from wondering why Haley doesn’t get any love to giving her my full fledge support and say I think she is the best girl in the competition. Yeh, better than the other one trick pony one. She is great and has a wonderful, new, and different voice. Everyone likes to talk about how quirky Paul is. Well yeh, I guess he is but the problem is he sucks too. Haley is every bit as quirky but she’s actually good.

Casey and James were the next best. They were both great. I totally agreed when the judges (i think Randy) said that James just has fun up there. He truly does and takes you along for the rockin ride. I still think James wins this.

I’m tired of Scotty. I saw that final baritone note coming a mile away and it made me hate the entire performance because of it. Every week it’s the same thing no matter what the theme is. The sooner he’s voted off the happier I’ll be. Well…. at least after the worst 4 listed above and I actually might want to hear one of them sing more instead just so I’ll be a little bit surprised.

Pia, see above Scotty comments except I do like her a little bit more.

That’s all I got for now.

RxDawg

March 30th, 2011
10:29 pm

Kiki, dear Namia was not very good tonight at all. She was just off throughout a lot of that song AND she completely changed it up. So she took whats a great song, changed it to fit another genre (and from someone who actually enjoys reggae it didn’t work), and didn’t do a great job of it? Kiss of death, she’s probably a lock to go home. And I was a fan of hers at the start.

RxDawg

March 30th, 2011
10:32 pm

Oh yeh, I knew I forgot one. Lauren, this was the first time I’ve actually enjoyed her. But then they let her talk again after the performance and my opinion of her just tanks. I’m sorry, she is just too dumb for me to really get into.

RxDawg

March 30th, 2011
10:33 pm

Another I forgot, Jacob. He just sounds like an old lady sobbing when he sings to me. Bleh.

Andi

March 30th, 2011
10:42 pm

Rx – no argument on the bottom group. Or the fact that Scotty and Pia have run their course.

But I just cannot bring myself to jump on the Haley bandwagon. I don’t think her voice is bad at all. I just can’t stand watching her try to use her cleavage or legs and “I’m trying so hard to be sexy” appeal to get the attention. It just makes me roll my eyes instead of listening to her sing.

Alex Trebek ™©®, Esquire

As always, I loved Haley!

I didn’t think there were any bad performances tonight (and I’m usually a tough critic). I wasn’t in love with Jacob’s overly dramatic faces or with Naima’s pitch, but I didn’t fast forward through their performances like I normally would have….

Harold

March 31st, 2011

Haley was by far, the best performer of the night. No one was even close.

Ladude

I totally disgaree with RxDawg;s comment on Thia. She deserves to stay, She’s got good voice quality! Period! Wrong decision by the judges to save the bearded guy…well he wont last to make it to the top five for sure.
