Tidbits: Constantine shows off baby; Idol top 11 touring decision made prior to save

1AF80BC0You can check out Constantine  Maroulis making love to the camera AND holding his daughter Malena here. I would normally just post the entire photo here but we are trying to adhere to photo policies and not just take an exclusive photo away from People magazine. So press the link and make People magazine happy!

He is currently touring with “Rock of Ages” across the country, including the Fabulous Fox Theatre July 5 to 10.

- 19 Entertainment president Iain Pirie told USA Today that the addition of an 11th person on the “Idols Live!” tour was made before the Casey Abrams save last night.

“It was actually totally unconnected,” Pirie says. “Any of them could have been in the bottom. Whether that person was saved or not saved, we made the decision that we wanted to tour these 11 kids and make an exception this year and really celebrate the strength of this cast.”

Last year’s tour was one of the weakest ever in terms of ticket sales. But given the strength and depth of this year’s cast, “Idol” is clearly willing to absorb the extra cost of the 11th performer in hopes of getting strong sales reminiscent of seasons 7 and 8.

- And here’s a story about Simon Cowell and “The X Factor” from  USA Today that includes quotes from me. I am scheduled to talk to Simon one on one by phone Monday for a few minutes. I haven’t done so in that fashion since season  two!

Here’s a portion:

Unlike on Idol, where Cowell was just a judge, albeit a highly paid one, he is the creator and an executive producer of X Factor as well as a judge. This is his baby.

That’s one reason why Atlanta Journal-Constitution blogger Rodney Ho, one of those who sensed a loss of interest on Cowell’s part last year on Idol, expects a more energized version in the fall. “I am certain Simon will put his heart and soul into X Factor.”

Congrats on the quotes Rodney, and thanks for the news.

My picks for next week (no I’m not totally serious, but close):

Lauren: Heaven (Warrant)
Scotty: Keep Your Hands to Yourself (Georgia Satellites)
Thea: Kiss me deadly (Lita Ford) or maybe a Taylor Dayne song.
Casey: Overkill (Men at work)
Pia: Careless whisper (Wham!) – because she can’t seem to do a fun song.
James: When doves cry or Kiss (Prince)
Naima: Looking for a new love (Jody Watley)
Stefano: Big in Japan (Alphaville)
Haley: Legs (ZZ Top)
Paul: Safety Dance (Men without hats)
Jacob: The final countdown (Europe). You’d think that this would be for James, but Jacob will kill it.

That would make for a cheesy show, fun, but cheesy.

I’ll say it now, as I have in the past: if anyone does Broken Wings I will vote for them A LOT. That even applies to Lauren.

Morning!

linny! :-)

The theme has been changed!!!! ELTON JOHN songs! I thought we weren’t going to do specific singers this year!!!! But, for some reason, Elton John is like American Idol’s crush…..

So the decision was already made to keep all 11 contestants? I have a feeling the producers thought another lady would be going home and that would leave it 6 guys, 4 girls. By keeping 11 they thought they could keep more of a gender balance. It may be PC but it will probably help sales on the tour.

“for some reason, Elton John is like American Idol’s crush…..”

I agree, but……yuck.

I loved Elton John’s music back in the day and actually saw him perform twice (great shows), but I lost a lot of respect for him and his music when he went all diva on us.

You might be onto something Alex with the gender balance. Or they thought that America just loved every one of the Idols. Either way… I’m not going to see the tour so I’m not too upset by the decision either way.

Elton John???? W… T… F?

You mean the guy who thinks American Idol or American Idol voters are racist? Of all the limited “we’re not going to have limited themes this year” themes to pick that is the most horrid for AI. I like several of his songs.

However, if anyone does Candle in the Wind I will falcon punch myself. Worst, most over played song ever.

I will vote for anyone that performs Nikita. That goes for Elton John or 80’s theme or total cheese song theme. Nikita, not going to admit that I like it, but I will vote for it ;)

I would love for someone to be ballsy and take on “The Bitch Is Back” and “Jamaica Jerk-off”.

Don’t really see that happening, though. Wonder why?

Grow some funk of your own, amigo
Grow some funk of your own
We no like to with the gringo fight
But there might be a death in Mexico tonight…..

Another great choice, Alex Trebek. I don’t see those being cleared by “Idol” somehow….may be just me.

Will Jacob be able to find a song with “meaning?” Maybe he can do Rocket Man, that has meaning.

I do not know this Constantinople person from my wifes nephews boyfriend who also gets a permanent but Elton John I can not stand to be in the same room with for a fact but do not get me started please. And ten or eleven contestants who is counting anyway.

Yep, “Rocket Man” certainly has meaning. The meaning I glean from it is: don’t raise your kids on Mars. It’s cold as hell and besides there no one there to raise them anyway.

Timeless advice from Sir Elton. But yes, I do love that song anyway!

Something just dawned on me. If the judges had indeed already settled on 11 contestants, imagine how that makes Karen feel. Apparently they never considered her to be good enough to be on the tour. If they want diversity she would have been the female Hispanic. Just sayin’…..

Well if they really wanted diversity they’d try to get an asian male into the top 13, but we know that isn’t happening. Over the course of Idol we have Sanjaya, he was of asian descent. Is that it for the top 10-12-or-13?

Yes, but I don’t think she is male.
