Simon Cowell explains ‘The X Factor,’ coming this fall, with audition cities

Simon Cowell explains how “The X Factor” works below and provides audition cities, none really near Atlanta.

Los Angeles, CA Sunday, March 27 L.A. Sports Arena

Miami, FL Thursday, April 7 Bank United Center

Newark, NJ Thursday, April 14 Prudential Center

Seattle, WA Wednesday, April 20 Key Arena

Chicago, IL Wednesday, April 27 Sears Centre Arena

Dallas, TX TBA TBA

I presume the host and judges will be named soon as well.

TV Ratings: “Idol” last night drew 22.6 million viewers, down from 23.5 million for the comparable sixth-week episode a year ago. That’s a 4% drop. Among 18-49, it’s down 13% from 9.1 ratings to 7.9.

Looking forward to seeing who they pick to be judges.

I know Miami is South, but is it considered to be “in the South”? So to speak.

Being from the South, I consdider Miami a foreign country!

Congratulations Deirdre! I hope the blog prince waits for you to arrive before he makes his appearance!

Thanks for the new post, Rodney. I think Simon thought Idol would more or less die without him and we’d be awaiting his X-Factor as a replacement. I am awaiting X-Factor, but not as a replacement for Idol.

I love the Beatles (Numb nuts previously spelled them Beetles). They were so much ahead of everyone else during the time and it had nothing to do with hippies….Moron.

I don’t think I’ve ever even heard a Beatles song. Now the The Monkees… now there was a group that was ahead of the times!

Miami is not traditional southern at all. It has become more like a northern suburb of Cuba. For the most part you feel as if you have left the United States when you go there.

Ousted ‘American Idol’ Contestant Chris Medina Headed to ‘Tonight Show,’ Report Says

Ousted “American Idol” hopeful Chris Medina may be out of the running for a spot in the hit show’s Top 24, but the journey of the aspiring singer with an inspiring story is far from over, as he is heading to the “Tonight Show” Friday.

According to a report from TV Squad, Medina will perform his soon-to-be-released song for Jay Leno and his audience Friday. Rickey Minor and The Tonight Show Band will assist Medina on “What Are Words,” a song written and produced by Rodney Jerkins.

Medina touched fans and judges alike, as he shared his tragic love story of his fiancée who was wounded in a debilitating car accident. Left brain damaged just months before their planned wedding, Medina took over round-the-clock care for Juliana Ramos.

His rendition of The Script’s “Breakeven” impressed all three celebrity judges, who sent him to Hollywood for a final round of competition. But it wasn’t enough to earn him a spot in the Top 24.
Judge Jennifer Lopez was moved to tears after informing Medina he would not be moving on. She praised Medina and encouraged him not to give up on his music.

She later told fellow judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, “I just feel like I didn’t tell him in the right way. I felt so bad. I don’t want to do this anymore … I can’t.”

JT – As one of Gilda Radner’s many characters would have said, “You’re so funny I forgot to laugh!”. Since I’m waaaay sure it was total irony, I won’t ream you out – lucky guy! Have to say I did watch the Monkees, but compared to the Beatles – what comparison?????

WoodP – the Beatles changed the whole world, musically stylistically, opened up our minds to a much broader, more fun world to be in. Swept the guy’s crew cut down the drain (thank God), and let us gals show off our long, lithe legs with the designers that followed the boys. What great times the 60′ – mid-70’s were. Aw, if I could just go back a day…… it’d be the hot August day in 1967 when I saw a matinee and an evening Beatles concerts – seats center aisle, 6th and 8th rows back from the stage! What a grand day it was.

If Casey Abrams can’t go for the show… will they pull someone back in like they did (I think) last year when a guy was found to be ineligible and they brought back The Turbinator?

If so… could Chris Medina make a comeback?

I get the impression that Sam might like the Beatles a little. Just a guess. I do have “Something” and “Here comes the sun” on my iPhone, but I don’t listen to them. Nope, no Beatles for me.

JTesla

Casey Abrams will make it. They found a way to keep Crystal going, so they will keep Casey in it until the bitter end where, just like her, he will end up losing to someone that we never even knew was in the competition until we got past the top 10 phase.

Sam-A…you lucky dog. I never got to see the Beatles perform in person (much less 6th row). I have seen Paul perform about 4 times tho. When I was a teen, I had Beatle cards, records, a Beatle wig (cause I still had the crew cut dad wanted us to have), and saw several of their movies. What a great time that was….

Sam-A

Agree WoodP – I didn’t have the wig, but had hundreds of cards, and tons of magazines. I’ve seen Paul in concert 17 times with Wings and solo, including the Piedmont Park show 1 1/2 years ago. The greatest performer ever, as far as I am concerned. Saw the B’s 4 times total – the only good thing about being old I can think of!

Hey, Sam-A, Nana can match that with her Elvis concerts! She’s been to see him I don’t know how many times. She can tell us about it when she checks in later. And, remember–John Lennon said that without Elvis there would be no Beatles.

In 1965 my older cousin took me to see the Beatles at Atlanta Stadium. It was quite an experience for a nine year old. I will emphasize that I (saw) the Beatles because after the first strum of the guitar, first drumbeat or first vocal of every song there was nothing to be heard but girls screaming so loud you couldnt hear anything else. So I didnt get to hear them but I did see them.

And it was that way on television, too! Mercedes, I have never been to an Elvis or a Beatles concert, nor have I seen a landmark. I did get to see Bob Dylan four times, but that is another subject. I sound like Mo here. Think I will go on and say goodbye for the afternoon. Hope to be on the blog–IF I don’t go to sleep again before it comes on! ;)

KPH and WoodP – I was there too.On the 26th row directly center stage. They looked pretty tiny from 26 rows up! Took the Beatle Bus from Davison’s to the Stadium and back. Ate early dinner at the S&S Cafeteria across from Davisons (of course, who really ate!!!).

Should be the rest of the 24 tonight, the show will end with them doing their goofy dances.

I think, so don’t quote me on this, that we pick 10 and then the judges get some wild card picks from the 14 that we didn’t pick. Or something to that effect.
