Season 7 runner up David Archuleta, after his second album disappointed, agreed to split ways from Jive Records, according to Hollywood Reporter.
That second album, “The Other Side of Down,” sold only 67,000 copies and generated no radio hits. His first album sold more than one million copies.
UPDATE: David has clarified that he left Jive Records, not the other way around.
“They’re changing as a company. And, then, I feel like I’m changing as an artist. I’m changing the direction I’m going, too. There were offers to continue working with them, but it just didn’t feel like the right thing now.”
- Season 8’s Scott McIntyre is engaged with a pretty blond named Christina Teich.
- Bad news for folks who like to hear singing: the Vegas episode has been trimmed to one hour tomorrow while the “Green Mile” has been expanded an extra hour tomorrow, with the rest on Thursday. Ugh.
- And here’s Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson singing their top 5 country hit “Don’t You Wanna Stay” on Ellen DeGeneres.

So David found that the “The Other Side of Down” is… still down.
I’ll be skipping the “Green Mile” episode. They add nothing to Idol.
Congratulations to Scott McIntyre, but if he is “engaged with a pretty blond named Christina Teich”, pretty as confirmed by a Google search, why do we have to look at David “Jive dropped me” Archuleta?

Aw come on, Rodney! You left out the snark and the slightly snide tone that was essential to making this thread everything it could and should be!

Oh don’t worry Deirdre, the very existence of this blog is enough to send those blinded by the light emitted from David “Jive dropped me” Archuleta into a frenzy.

I was hoping that the headline would say David Archuletta engaged… Scott McEntyre engaged so I could say “Man, I bet Scott didn’t see that coming!”

And btw, there’s 2 hours worth of green mile on Thursday, too. Unless someone actually totally loses it and shoots the place up…there ain’t nothing THAT interesting to take up 3 HOURS!!!!!

Rodney did let the “tomorrow’s” run amok. Wednesday is two hours, one of it is Vegas the other hour being the green or taupe mile, whatever one they choose. Thursday’s show will be a continuation of the obnoxiously big room that they have to walk across along with a camera in the elevator to capture “secret” elation or tears. Did I mention that this adds nothing to Idol?
Nothing.

WHAT? 3 hours of that? No, that’s fine, I’ll watch Idol for one hour this week and spend the rest of the time practicing my zombie fighting skills.

And he knows that she cares for him as a person… not for the millions he’ll (not) make as a singer.

Three hours of the Green Mile? Maybe it’s actually a marathon? Yes, I just saw “Idol” is torturing us with two hours on Thursday, too. I’m personally offended. In the past, they usually can do it in one clean, painless hour.

Boycott Idol!
Granted this isn’t as big an offense as having the top 5 only sing one song per person in one hour, but it is the only thing I have to get fired up about.

Hi y’all,
I spent the whole weekend sick and resting, so I’ve just caught up with the blog. Sad to hear about Nana, but my thoughts and prayers are with her!
Sam-A, same to you. Hope you’re feeling better and whatever ails you is figured out and cured asap.
Three hours of the Green Mile. I am so excited. NOT.

Thanks, K&CF – and hope you’re well and ready to go now as well. Glad I DVR Ellen every day, as I did not know Kelly was going to be on today’s show. I do know Kellie P is supposed to be on either today or tomorrow – she’s always hilarious on Ellen.
One more hour – looks like I might survive another day at the office. Home, hot hot hot shower for relaxation, dinner and a 24 hour watch for Idol.

Sam-A, Pickler is on tomorrow. and yes, I love whenever she goes on Ellen. The two of them are hilarious.
I miss Idol on Tuesdays…the extra day makes it feel so long between shows.

So much for the whole “talent over drama” we were hoping for. Three “Green Mile” hours? That’s cruel & unusual punishment!
Only 27 hours till the show begins. Only 28 hours till the torture starts.

David just did a video blog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0UY9H3vMTM&feature=player_embedded and he clarifed that Jive wanted to continue working with him. He is the one who decided to leave, as he had fulfilled his 3 album contract with them. You may want to consider changing your headline, since was most definitely not dropped by Jive. Thanks

I was wondering how long it would take for the David “Jive dropped me” Archuleta fans to filter in.
Yeah, because if he were really doing well Jive wouldn’t have sweetened the deal to do a 4th album with them.
In his video blog did he address the fact that someone much younger than him, Bieber, got a haircut in order to look more mature? Maybe little David can follow the Bieb’s lead. Might actually lead to him selling some music too.
Wait, I should edit that, because now the frothing at the mouth David Fans will turn the attention to me, away from where attention should be, failed albums.
Nah.

I mean really, scroll up and look at that picture. No really, scroll up, look at the picture while counting 5 mississippi’s, what is going on there? That hair… did he do that himself? I mean he has a great voice and all, but the guy needs to hire a stylist. Oh wait, he didn’t make enough money off the last ablum to do that, my bad.

JTesla, nope, you are entitled to your opinion about David- I’m not going to hate on you for it. And you’re right- David’s last album didn’t sell well so why argue that point? All I said was the headline is incorrect. David chose to leave Jive. Carry on!

David dropped JIVE, not the other way around, Rodney! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0UY9H3vMTM Nice of his ex-manager to place blame on him, though. JIVE hasn’t done squat to promote David or push his singles to radio for 2 years. That is obviously on them, not him…”The Other Side of Down” is a great little album, and definitely has some hit-worthy tracks. But people can’t buy music they’ve never heard before, and they can’t hear it if the label doesn’t do their job…David’s right. There are alot of shakeups at JIVE. Right when TOSOD was being released, the CEO Barry Weiss resigned, & his A&R rep announced he was leaving, too. Couple that with the fact that Ciara BEGGED JIVE to drop her, and you know things just aren’t right at that place.
David is an amazing live performer, with a large and devoted fanbase. I’m proud of him leaving JIVE, actually. He’ll be fine.

How Scott and Christina’s first conversation went:
Scott: “Wow, you feel really pretty…”
Christina: “Hey, my face is up here, jerk! Oh, wait, you were that guy from AI…hmm, no, you’re still creepy.”
What David said upon leaving JIVE:
David: “Well, no big deal. Disney will pay me royalties until I violate my no-drugs/promiscuity/cuss-words deal with them… hey wait a second…”

And I sort of wish AI would just take up a whole week of 2 hour episodes os we can slog thru all the “big group” stuff and get on to the top 24!

JTesla That picture of David was taken when he was 17. He is now 20, and his hair looks nothing like that. David LEFT Jive, because he wants his career to go in another direction. He wants to be taken seriously as an artist, not wanting to follow the Bieb’s lead.

Why stay with a record label that doesn’t do their job? No promotion and no radio push of course will lead to low sales. That’s a no brainer. The truth is the album is really good. But the buying public doesn’t even know it exists. Jive is crumbling; the head of Sony left and the Arts and Repetoire guy left. David knew when to get out. Besides, he completed his side of the deal, he produced 3 records for Jive, one is almost platinum plus a double platinum single!
