‘American Idol’ moving to Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting January 19-20, 2011

6a00d8341c630a53ef0134893dfccf970c-400wi‘Idol’ is moving from its usual perch of Tuesdays and Wednesdays to the more competitive Wednesday/Thursday combo.

The launch date: January 19. (Fox must have told Nigel something different because he said to TV Guide it would start January 12.). That seems a little later than normal, which may mean “Idol” will cut a week out of its schedule. (Then again, I’d need to study the calendar to make sure that’s true.)

The “Idol” Wednesday show will air 8 to 10 p.m. The Thursday show will air 8 to 9 p.m. The strong performance of “Glee” this fall on Tuesdays may have also played into Fox’s thinking.

Preston Beckman, Fox VP for strategic planning, told the LA Times that CBS moving “Survivor” to Wednesdays opened up Thursdays for “Idol.”

“Here’s the opportunity we’ve been waiting for,” Beckman said. “Thursday just isn’t what it used to be … there are still some of the strongest shows on TV, but none of them are in growth mode.”

What do you think? For me, it doesn’t matter much at all.

Doesn’t matter much to me. I don’t watch much television, so meh.

Thursday is a busy tv night for me but Idol is over by 9pm(wasn’t there a hint that the results show would only be 30 minutes this year?)so I’m good.

You really see who’s paying attention when Rodney gives us a weekend post!
I don’t know what I’m going to do about choir practice after the first of the year, either way, b/c it’s on Wednesday night.
Guess I’ll have to quit the choir. . . :-)

Good luck on your Kat interview, Rodney!
I looked up “Shark Night 3D”, which is directed by David R. Ellis of “Snakes on a Plane” fame.
Kat will be the biggest name in the movie… i.e. the only “name” known to me. I’ve never heard of Sara Paxton, Alyssa Diaz or Dustin Milligan, the three actors listed before Miss MP in the cast.

During her idol season, Kat roomed with Kellie Pickler. Both girls have done better for themselves in this business than the winner, Taylor Hicks…I’d like to know what she makes of the fact that so many idol winners have been overshadowed by 2nd, 3rd and even 4th placers.

In case you can sneak in an idol question…

Kellie Pickler was a bridesmaid in Kat’s wedding. They have remained good friends.

I checked and Shark Attack 3D is NOT a spoof.

Thou shalt not inquire of the McPhee regarding Idol.

All good journalists, Rodney among them, save their sensitive (here, “Idol”) questions for last.

Or get them out of the way first, by mutual pre-agreement!

Who needs the results show anyway? We all know the results will be at the end… AFTER the break.

Um, people….it’s a television show with an outcome that is completely irrelevant:

Yes. I almost always start soft, hit the sensitive questions near the end.

I,too, record “Idol” so day/time is of no consequence at all. “Idol” could be on PBS at 2:17 a.m. and that would be fine by me. mrs. ‘pizza and I always come in and watch the morning after the show airs. Only bad thing is we never get to vote for anyone. :-( We just pick our fave and hope others keep them around.

Since Kat doesn’t want a lot of “Idol” related questions you can always ask her about her “bristols”….just a thought. ;-)

Janet… LOL

Shall we take bets on how long it takes for a Palin kid to make money from showing their bristols?

“Serious” is DWTS tonight! If Bristol with the bristols win, that will be an upheaval…

Morning, everybody -

Morning!

We have to allow ranting about DWTS as much as we did for Idol last year when that non-singer won. If a non-singer can win Idol then a non-dancer can win DWTS. It’s a tv show, not the fate of the western world.

Saw Harry Potter yesterday. Very good! Even hubby, who has seen all the movies but read none of the books, enjoyed it. He loved the child-like quality of the first couple of films and was disappointed when the story started to get darker and more grown up. Now he likes it and is looking forward to seeing how it all ends.

Thanks again Falcons!

what about Bones and Fringe!!! My two favorite shows will again be shoved out of the lineup for Idol. I thought they fixed that when they got to move to Thursdays!! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! Used to be an idol fan, but gave up long ago. Now this just makes me angry!!!

All you people who live & die by AI: try reading a non-fiction non-”Christian” book; try reading a magazine other than PEOPLE; just try reading.

Fruit Fly, just wondering why you’re on this page at all, if you’re not interested in AI or TV in general. By the way, I probably read as much and as varied as you do.

Fruit Fly….you have obviously never been here for out monthly book club.

Sinking…picking on the blog instead of just the show kinda labels you as a returnee.

Cali…thanks…we’re very used to people who, for some odd reason, live to put other people down. It’s their nature, albeit a sad one.

Wow. Who killed the blog? I don’t like the change in days, but dang it if they didn’t ask me. Oh, well. We’ll see how it goes. But you know, with all these changes…why don’t they call it American Factor and be done with it?
