L.A. auditions have light attendance; Crystal Bowersox gets engaged

Sorry. Been on vacation avoiding work best as I could. Now it’s time to get back to real life again!

The Los Angeles Times reported that only about 3,000 people showed up for auditions this week.

Two factors may be working against attendance: it’s Los Angeles, which isn’t exactly home to a lot of unseen talent and hasn’t generated a lot of gold for “Idol” in the past. Rather, it’s packed with wannabes and polished acts who don’t really need “Idol.” And given the last-second nature of the auditions, it probably didn’t exactly get as much attention as the first six cities.

We can only hope and pray the producers were able to find some real talent.

- Crystal Bowersox’s
rep told People that she has gotten engaged to musician Brian Walker. That was quick! She broke up with her previous boyfriend Tony Kusian literally before the “Idol” finale in May.

- “Idol” is shooting promos with every past winner in their hometowns. Lee DeWyze, David Cook, Jordin Sparks, Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks have taped theirs. Next up: Fantasia.

- The Wright Entertainment Group (Justin Timberlake, Jonas Brothers) has added David Archuleta to its fold. His album “The Other Side of Down”is out October 5.

- I’m attending Diana DeGarmo’s “9 to 5″ on Tuesday and will blog about it. The Tennessean gave it a good review when it opened in Nashville. And Diana is treated kindly:

Music City resident DeGarmo (Hairspray, Hair the Musical), a season three American Idol finalist, is a hoot in the role Parton played on film. Her rendition of “Backwards Barbie,” arguably a grown-woman sequel to Parton’s 1971 hit “Coat of Many Colors,” is superb.

I’d hate to be Josh number 2. Imagine if I were JTesla number 2… yeah that’s kind of nasty.

Looking forward to the flood of David Archuleta fans in October, good for him. Good for Diana too, enjoy the production Rodney.

LA, meh.

Morning!

Looking forward to your take on Diana’s show, Rodney.

I’m not sure what Idol was thinking with a last minute addition of LA to the audition cities. I think they’ve been kinda manic all summer. They need to get their act together and get the job done. Judges don’t matter, productions values don’t matter…TALENT matters!

I don’t know how much rain the rest of you got but we got A LOT. My grass is breathing a sigh of relief!

You are right, Dierdre–about the rain, and the game. Everything was so dry. As for the game, it was terrific!

Perhaps the last minute LA audition was added to get the new judges involved – maybe some of the wannabees actually sang before the panel. Or maybe they don’t have a single person they think could win it. Who knows – things are strange with Idol these days.

The contestants selected to appear before the actual judges panel don’t perform for them until late october/ Early november usually.

Too bad that Fantsleasia isn’t from Durham NC, home of Duke University. The Cameron Crazies would show up and shower the stage with empty aspirin bottles!

KCF, I can hardly stand to watch the Braves any more. Seven fricken’ games ahead of the Phillies and on their way to a division title–then Boom! The bottom falls out, as usual. I thought that perhaps Bobby might go out with at least a division title, but, no. Makes me sad.

The Dawgs will be better once AJ is back. It is hard to watch your team lose like they’ve been losing–Tech, too. My team, the Gamec0cks, went and gave away a game at Auburn Sat night. I feel your pain.

Thanks, Harriett. I know the feeling, I’m still trying to remain hopeful with the Braves, but I might need a math degree to come up with all the dang formulas so they can make the playoffs. I, too, wanted a NL East title for Bobby’s farewell…Sill, I’ll be there tomorrow and Sunday saying “So long, Skip.”

Don’t get me started on the Dawgs. It’s a bunch of boneheadedness and stupid stuff going on…ON and OFF the field. Seriously. They need their butts whopped and coached with a little more passion. I’ve been a Richt cheerleader, but something needs to change. Soon.

But anyway, my Idol update: word is that Kelly’s got stuff ready, but it’s up to “the man behind the curtain” to get a single out. Since the new album isn’t expected til next year, I doubt it’ll come until for another month or so. Hope I’m wrong.

Based on what passes for talent coming out of Los Angeles in this modern day and age which we are currently living in it is hard to understand why anyone is going there looking for any of it. I had to attend a dentist appointment I had earlier this morning already so I can not say much else due to the numbness.

Is anyone else going to see Diana in 9 to 5? I’d go but I’m still dog-sitting.

wow, you would think LA would be overflowing with people trying to be on Idol. But for any artists out there who don’t want to stand in long lines waiting to audition, check out http://music180.com. This site lets you connect to music industry pro’s like Arthouse Entertainment founder Kara DioGuardi who was an American Idol judge!
