Adam Lambert rocks out for a very enthusiastic Atlanta Symphony Hall crowd

Adam Lambert tore down the roof at the very staid Atlanta Symphony Hall Tuesday night. And while the venue was a bit stuffy, Adam wasn’t in the least.

Fortunately, he tamed some of his worst tendencies we saw on “Idol” and that ill-fated American Music Awards performance. Heck, he didn’t even sing “For Your Entertainment.” It merely played on tape to open his hour-long set.

The show flowed well. He started dark, including a short version of “Ring of Fire,” his only cover of the night. He then did a few acoustic cuts. Then he did happier dance songs at the end, including his current his “If I Had You.” (He apparently has dropped “Whole Lotta Love” and “Mad World” from the set recently.) Adam’s brimming confidence and grace on stage made the show easy on the eyes. Overall, it was a visually stunning set (with a simple, yet effective, laser light show).

adam-snarlThe crowd included a few teens but mostly women in their 30s to 60s. (Not as many gays as you would imagine.) I do have to say it was one of the most enthusiastic audiences I’ve ever been in. Between opener Allison Iraheta and Adam, the song “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas got most everyone on their feet to dance, even some folks who are clearly receiving Social Security checks. People actually applauded after “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and “Sexyback” were played.

Naturally, they stood throughout his entire set, even during his two lengthy costume breaks. (One was filled with dancers. The other, long guitar solos.).

He didn’t utilize that annoying massive scream of his. Rather, he would wail at times but in a way that wouldn’t break glass or break eardrums. I was very happy.

I almost didn’t get into the concert. Apparently, I had no tickets available at will call. And I forgot to bring the name of the person who supposedly set it up for me. A woman with Atlanta Symphony Hall told me this was set up by an outside company so she didn’t have the power to give me any tickets. She said she’d try and told me to wait by the entrance. Just moments before Allison was to start, one of the ticket takers asked me if I was coming in. I said I was having issues with my media access. She then handed me a spare ticket, no explanation given. I thanked her and took it.

I’ll provide more thoughts tomorrow morning. I just wanted to get a couple of videos up first:

Here is Adam singing “Whataya Want From Me” in acoustic form mid-way through the concert:

And here are three very big fans of Lambert (left to right- Andrea Beyer, Lois Gray and Kathy McClain) who were teens when Elvis Presley was big. These three Floridians drove six hours from the Melbourne, Fla. area and plan to see three more Lambert concerts in their state. Kathy later told me she also was a huge fan of Adam Ant in the 1980s.

And yes, there were younger folks there, too. Here was my vantage point at about 8:47 p.m., 12 minutes before he hit the stage while Justin Timberlake was playing over the loudspeakers:

No matter how much you kids make fun of the age or sexuality of fans at Adam’s concerts the fact sill remains that he is selling his tours out and he is very popular. Your Jeolousy is amusing. The envious keep coming back with comments over and over that do not decrease the popularity of Adam nor do they increase the popularity of your favorite. Your favorite will just have to find a way to capture the attention of the press and the public. Dissing Adam will not help them. Your favorites are still dull as dishwater and it became more clear when Adam came on the scene. That is the reason for all the attacts on him. You are affraid because nobody cares about your guys anymore if they ever did.

What guys? There’s nothing wrong with teasing people about their obsessions if(and that’s a big “if”) fans can maintain their sense of humor.

See, what I saw here today was a bunch of people getting all upset because some other people aren’t as into Adam Lambert as they are. Why would they care? It smacks of some serious insecurities.

@Deirder Aw, we’re not insecure… we’re just excited!!! We love him and can’t stand the hatred he receives. Anything wrong with that? If people were just saying they didn’t like his music or something, that’s fine. It’s the mean-spirited stuff that makes the claws come out.

I’m not talking about you. I’m talking about the folks who actually spew hatred. The ones who say he can’t sing, that he wouldn’t be able to stand up to some of the rockers from the 70’s…. and the ones who bring his sexuality into it. I don’t care if you don’t care about him. That’s none of my business. When someone says something publically, it’s fair game. And yes, I understand that what I say is fair game.

Oh, and Rickster… I don’t care about Kris Allen, the guy who won. His music isn’t my thing. I think it’s interesting that he played viola and that he plays lots of instruments, but none of his music moves me. I still bought his album, because I live in Arkansas and have friends who know him personally, so I thought I would be nice and check it out. But I listened once and put it away. Haven’t touched it since.

So Deirdre, I agree. When people say they don’t like him, I usually ask why, because a lot of times it’s because of some review they’ve read (seriously!) and I then try to persuade them to listen to his music. In fact, my boss loves Adam’s voice, but refuses to buy his music based on 1 article he read – and it wasn’t even by a music critic. It was all personal stuff. But I have since given him a mix CD and talked to him about Adam and he is changing his mind. Now you see why I hate seeing bad stuff written about him? It’s not that I care what people think, but when you write something that is going out into cyberspace or into a newspaper, etc, you need to keep the personal bias out of it. It doesn’t do anyone any good. Either you like the music or you don’t. Adam isn’t a bad person. He’s actually very sweet and kind to all his fans – even the ‘older’ ones. Probably even the llamas :) All right, I’ll get off my soap box now.

@Dierdre, I doubt that anyone cares that you are not into Adam Lambert. It is just your need and the need of a few others to come back and say it endlessly. Most of us can read and we got your feelings the first time. You are so insecure that you need to keep coming back as if your very existence depends on getting others to agree with you. Adam is not taking anything away from you. If his fans love him it does not hurt you. Your obsession with him is just plain weird. The hatred by some of you is strange. Adam is succeeding with or without the blessings of the idol lovers of others. If the guy who won idol is so important ot you one would never know it. You don’t buy his albums. You don’t got to his concerts. You let his 2nd single fail while you were concentrating on what Adam was doing. Bad fans you are. Thank goodness Adam does not need you people for support. Otherwise he’d be flopping like Kris, you know the guy who won ido.

WOW! Always shocked when I read anything negative about Adam because I just can’t even think that way. He is the most beautiful person, inside and out, (and being gay has NOTHING to do with it), and is (I am going to say it) I believe one of the most talented people I have ever encountered in my 49 years! CNB, I agree with you and others – I have NEVER heard Adam scream EVER! He sings! Incredible singing range! Doesn’t hurt my ears. I love it and appreciate his ability to even be able to do it! To Cindy – I’m sorry your Dad didn’t let you go to see Adam, school night or not. Opportunity like this concert tour won’t come around again I doubt. Disagree with Jelinda on this one. I’m sure I’m probably the minority on this subject. I have been to two of Adam’s concerts (St. Louis, before school started, lots of kids; and Indianapolis – after the school year started, hardly any school-aged kids). My thinking on this is if a kid is a good student (grades) and has no problems going on at school, why not go. My own kids always go to school, have perfect attendance year after year, but I am guilty of this with my own. I took 2 of my daughters to both concerts and for the Indianapolis concert, they actually missed 2 days of school (I won free tickets and it was hours and hours of driving from our home, so had to spent the night there). It didn’t cause one bit of a problem. They made up all of the work, didn’t even need any help for me, and it didn’t effect their grade one slight bit. BUT they DID get to experience Adam’s show one more time and get to meet him, get his autograph, pics. with, and Tommy and Monte (who if anyone has ever met them, knows they are great guys too)! I believe Adam is going to be big, big, BIG in the future! And getting to actually met him now, probably will be really hard in the future. Wished I could have had the time and money to have followed him around the country and seen all of his concerts, as a few lucky ones have been able to do. I don’t feel like the chances like those this summer – smaller venues, meet and greets. chance encounters at hotels, (yes, he stayed in the same Hotel as us at St. Louis), restaurants, etc. – will happen in the future. Adam is so sweet and would probably just laugh at all you haters and might say something like “Well, they’re entitled to their opinions.” being the ever always rising above the hate Adam we love. Just can’t understand all the hate. Didn’t any of you ever see the movie “Bambi” when Thumper’s Mom says to him, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Really, is the hate words making you feel big, superior, important? I just can’t understand why you want to spend time actually trying to tear down another person. I don’t know who you are, I’ve never been on this site before, but it seems that a few of you know each other. Just can’t understand how you want to sit and hate with others. What a waste of time. I for one WILL take my kids to anything that is a positive wonderful experience like the Glam Nation Tour! We are still smiling ear to ear with just the mention of it by anyone. Sorry you just don’t get it. Happy, and I do mean VERY happy, myself and all of us Adam Lambert lovers (or I might add Tommy, or any of Adam’s other band mates and dancers lovers) do. Well Deirdre already pointed out that you obviously need to be told a few more times what her opinion on Adam is, because you missed it.

However, who would come here due to insecurity? Seriously, this is the internet, and there are certain truisms, certain rules, that always apply. For instance, there are no girls on the internet. It’s just a fact, no arguing against it, it’s a rule. Another other rule, the one that applies here, is that you will not change anyone’s mind by arguing about it on the internet. Everyone here knows that, so we don’t come here to get others to agree with us, because the rules of the internet already state that they never will.

I just don’t understand people who don’t like an artist but contiune reading and commenting on him. I don’t like Kris Allen, but I never read articles about him unless he is mentioned in an article about Adam. What is the point? I’m a BIG Adam fan but I don’t really believe he will be iconic or even an international superstar (well maybe that one). I believe he could have been if not for the AMA performance but that performance damaged his career in the US. However, talent cannot be denied and he has true talent in spades and I believe he will have a successful career just not as huge as I thought. He is well on his way. Amalia: Really, “The whole world is laughing AT you!” And by you, I mean you specifically.

Really, because I think there are conservatives that don’t like Adam the world over and they are laughing at us because we give him lots of money. Then there is my prior example of the middle east. In fact, I’m pretty sure that any negative reaction Adam gets in the US pales in comparison to treatment some gay men receive in certain African nations. So Amalia, maybe it’s time you start paying attention to the world and helping it to understand love before you try to demean the US.

Sandy: I don’t understand people who read comments knowing that just about every blog will have comments that you might not agree with.

AriesGal: on the AMA performance we can agree. I’m glad Adam stuck it to the puritanical prudes.

AriesGal

The middle east and parts of African are definitely not okay with homosexuality, and do horrible things to people who are found out, but I also think those nations are way behind in the times – still stuck in the Biblical ages (middle east) or stone ages (the third world african nations.) The fact that the US, as we know it, was founded by conservative religious English people definitely is a strike against it being as forward thinking as some other nations. But with it being a melting pot, things will definitely get stirred up over time. The more we see it in the media and get usd to it, the less sensational it will be, and we’ll move on to some other hot button topic. The far east, most of europe and australia/new zealand don’t seem to have hangups about homsexuality, at least not to the extent that Americans do. One interviewer in Hong Kong told Adam that they just don’t talk about it there. But it sounded like it wasn’t taboo, either. I mean, they are trying to keep the population down there, LOL… Anyhoo… this is another interesting topic.

“The fact that the US, as we know it, was founded by conservative religious English people definitely is a strike against it being as forward thinking as some other nations.”

Except when comparing it to England of course. ;)

I actually disagree with the origin of the thinking. The US was populated by a diverse group and included many castoffs. While the Middle East is well beyond Biblical. Heck, Arab tradition regarding female ownership of property wasn’t matche in England until the late 1800’s.

But that is a topic for another thread.

Don’t you just love people who use “pseudo” names and rant how awful Adam is? I wonder who these tone-deaf, bore loving people think are good. Probably the same old bunch of white guys hiding behind guitars, not moving and screaming out lyrics. I’m so glad we’ve gotten past the same old rock bands (except for a few like Bon Jovi, Moody Blues and Springsteen) and now have a little variety. “Bob Seger” needs to see a few musicals. Most of the people on the radio and selling out big venues can’t come close to the talent you see from the leads down to the ensemble members. Our kids don’t see enough musical theatre or symphony concerts.

All I expected from Adam was a lead in a musical and we got so much more. This is fun and I love the bantering between people on these comments.

LOL “Don’t you just love people who use “pseudo” names and rant how awful Adam is?” Umm Glamity58, YOU are using a “pseudo” name.

DUH! Just about everyone here does, even the people who love Adam.

Sheesh people, you don’t have to go and make it so easy for me, try a little harder please.

Wow, I’m exhausted after reading some of these comments! I love and support Adam 100%, but I have to agree with @Deirdre that Adam can take care of himself. Yes, I admit that the trolls get to me…and I REALLY have to hold back from retaliating (which I have come to realize is futile, so I ignore them)..but people will always have strong opinions, whether we like them or not. Adam doesn’t support animosity, but he welcomes opinions…I love that about him :) ))

I don’t understand why people get so upset over what some stranger writes in their post at the end of an article. Whether they rant to the positive or rant to the negative, when it’s irrational the post loses all credibility anyway. Does what anyone posts ever change your mind about something? I could care less what some of the more negative posters think. When they go off the deep end into the world of babble they just look and sound foolish. Plus when you read through there only seems to be about the same 10 people who post. Rodney’s blogs don’t seem to generate much traffic except for the same people (myself included) who keep coming back to either defend or spread hate. 99.9% of the population does not read or care what people post at the end of an article. 98% don’t even read articles on the Internet. I’ve seen a few bloggers get all excited because their story got 3,000 hits even though 2,000 of them were repeats of people coming back for an argument. There are over 300 million people in this country. So do you think the comments of a couple of posters makes any difference on the career of a person at all? If a tree falls in the words and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound?

Good point JeLinda and conversely if a bear farts in the woods and no one is there to smell it, does it stink?

Adam Lambert is a talented man. He has vocals that are pitch perfect and beautiful. I realize that some people can’t appreciate that. He can sing any genre so he’ll be around for a very long time. No one has a problem with those of you who don’t like his music. It is the insulting hate and lies that are annoying. If you don’t like his music then state that. His sexual orientation shouldn’t factor in one way or the other. His fan base that are women of any age appreciate that he is ALL MAN! He has style and is strikingly handsome. He is witty and articulate. He is sweet and he is sassy. He puts on one heck of an entertaining show and he does it joyfully. His concerts are based in happiness, joy and love. Try one. Love is alot more fun than sinking in hate. The truth is refreshing.

Do you have day job? Or your only occupation is googling Mr.Lambert name and posting negative comments on every article written about him? Obsessed much?

Mr. Ho how can you allow such homophobic comments to posted and not remove them. There are too many for me to have to individually report to you or Access Atlanta. I am upset that you did nothing to remove them and are making the reader do it for you. Adam Lambert is the most talented entertainer in decades and your review was good but not accurate. Worst tendencies from AMA’s & American Idol what the heck does that mean? Are you biased against AI? I loved his performance at AMA’s far tamer than LGG and three other female singers. Eminem was pathetic and every other word bleeped out. Now why don’t you mention those types. Typical Southern mentality from bloggers.

hi sarah again, im 19, I don’t understand the people who hate .ie haters, you can say your opinion and move on. I don’t care what you think, its not gonna stop me from liking adam. but when you post over and over again i find that disturbing..it means you have a agenda and you are taking more than a personal interest, the opposite of love is indifference, posting repeatedly is not indifference…it means adam fascinates you enough, that instead of going on with ur day you sit at the computer and post about him over and over again…and those haters ie.(some fans of other idols) that google his name is just sad. move on with ur lives.

I got a chance 2 go 2 the tabernacle 2 ..omg so many guys, and girls he was even more energetic.
all i can say is i really had a good time!! it was super fun! I like that adam does not take himself seriously. just love him.

Sorry … can’t drop & give you 20 … can’t even drop & give you 2 … as a matter of fact can’t drop at all … just a sick old grandma “sparkle cow” that has been around long enough to see all the GREATS of the past come & GO (unfortunately) and I see a lot of those past GREATS in ADAM LAMBERT! His voice .. stage presence .. charisma .. showmanship .. are all reminiscent of the GREATS that I have enjoyed in the past. When ADAM performs I see a little bit of all the artists that I once followed in the past … except .. ADAM’s VOICE … to me ADAM’s VOICE is INCOMPARABLE … the BEST ever … and that is JMO!!

Whoah! I was was 4th row Ochestra center right. Diverse group indeed. My friend that accompanied me was in her early 30’s and was quite a draw with her ‘electric pumps’ and cleavage. I never considered her a ‘cougar’ but what do I know. Adam/band was awesome! We had such a great time! Took pics with some obviously gay fans afterwards (cute guys in fish net hose). The most memoriable moment? The silence at the end of the 2nd pregnant pause of ‘Soaked.’ I will remember that forever and I have it on tape :)
