Upcoming Clay Aiken, Melinda Doolittle concerts in Atlanta in 2011

68893127I finally watched the “Tried and True” concert that aired on GPB August 1 and found out that Clay Aiken is coming to Atlanta on Feb. 16, 2011 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.  People who donate $225 to GPB gets two tickets to that show. I don’t see any tickets on sale yet. I’m not sure if this precludes the Ruben-Clay show from coming here before then. Probably.

And I saw an ad in Sunday Paper showing Melinda Doolittle is appearing at Ferst Performing Arts Centre at Georgia Tech March 12, 2011.  You can buy tix now for $28 to $38.

-I’m almost tempted to boycott all judge name rumors at this point simply because I’m tired of them. I think most of you are, too. As MJ noted, we are all ready to have the judges’ panel named so we can move on. You can read her site if you want to know more about the supposed backs and forth. Did J.Lo’s negotiations go bad due to her unreasonable demands? Is Shania Twain really in the running now? Is Kara DioGuardi upset that she hasn’t been given any info from “Idol”? Is Steven Tyler asking for too much money? Can I go back to sleep now?

Nuff on the judge’s panel.

If any of you get a chance to see melinda Doolittle, please do so. I saw her in Pigeon Forge earlier this year and she was amazing. In fact, I even posted a comment here about her and the show.

Mercedes, from previous thread: ” . . .there’s a white space between the bottom of the iris and the lower eyelid.”
I’ve heard that defined as “sanpaku” — not, as I recall, a good thing. whereas, bedroom eyes, mm-mm. Saw Javier last night on Leno and he’s got ‘em.

wp, I saw Jake after he worked out one day–in shorts and a tank top (that was all sweaty). He was here in Columbia and staying at the Hilton where I was meeting with the staff concerning an upcoming conference. The conference planner–a woman, naturally–confided that all the female staff were watching the security cams in the workout room while he was there. I saw him twice that day, and as D attested, there is not one single thing about this man that is at ALL girly.

In defense of Jake, not ALL girls like that nasty burly look of hairiness, beards and flannel shirts. I like a “girly” type. Clean. Smelling good. Smooth skin. Hairless. GQ clothing. I’ve always thought Jake J’s face and demeanor were a tiny bit effeminate, not gayish, but not too manly either.

Don’t like Melinda D – she can certainly sing, but that old look and lack of neck, + facial expressions when on Idol really turned me off; loved Clay on season 2, but not a “claymate” and haven’t really bought records or kept up with him. Did however, while channel-surfing a week or so ago, hit his special on PBS – he did a really lovely version of “Crying” (Roy O) with Linda Edder, who is a really fab singer. Watched a couple of songs – he sounded great and actually, for the first time ever, looked quite handsome.

Ah, since I rarely look at computer over weekends, I intend to be “Fantasia-Free” for two whole days.

I just hope 19 realizes that they need at least one judge who won’t sugar-coat his/her opinion! Isn’t that what made Simon stand out? We need someone who won’t be afraid to be honest (sometimes brutally so) for fear of being disliked.

That’s what I liked about Simon. He was going to say what he felt and not worry about whether anyone else agreed or disliked him for it!

I don’t feel sorry for Skankta$ia.

I don’t wish she would get “therapy”. I don’t see her as a sympathetic figure that deserves our compassion.

Nope.

I see a vile, arrogant, wretched ho-bag trying to boost her career by thumbing her nose at decency. She’s a “shock skank”, and is counting on the public to be gullible and trashy enough to make her a wealthy celebrity.

You know what I hope for? I hope she badly miscalculates the public’s appetite for her trash and she winds up broke back in the ghetto from whence she came.

The only one I feel for here is her daughter. Skankta$ia can go to hell.

Yeah, enough (on their part) with the judge speculation — they are doing the show a disservice by so clearly indicating how much disarray they are in. Hope they address all the format/time/Seacrest issues but since I’ve become only a lvery casual and “only on fast-forward” Idol viewer, don’t know why it bugs me.

If I’m around, I would love to see Melinda live. She can really sing, in the classic sense, real songs. AI isn’t a factory for singers, it’s a factory for POP singers… mostly ephemeral stuff which only Kelly (to my joy) and Carrie (to my disinterest) have transcended so far (Clay has too, but in a more limited way).

Oh geez, I just saw the TMZ story about Fantasia and her married boyfriend reuniting for the VH1 cameras. An all new low in a week where I didn’t think she could sink any lower. She either still can’t tell the difference between separated and divorced, or the whole drama was meant to be “made for tv” all along. Paula Cook should wash her hands of her husband and sue Fantasia for every dime she has (which, considering she can barely pay her mortgage probably isn’t going to be much).

Deirdre

August 13th, 2010
5:18 pm

Is this my fault? Maybe it’s Neg’s fault(he does seem a little obsessive about it). There is no mention of Fantasia in Rodney’s current blog entry so why are people talking about her? Are we going to keep looking until our eyes bleed? Are we gluttons for punishment? Can we move on please?

Deirdre, you can’t provide new ammo at 9:58 a.m. and then ask “Can we move on please?” at 5:18 p.m.. Well you can, and you did, but the Fantasia drama will be with us for a while.

I will say that Neg’s lashing of Fantasia is not so intense for me due to the fact that he didn’t like her that much in the first place. It’s like me once again bashing the non-existent Clay fans, kind of expected. Speaking of Clay fans, are there any *checks thread* nope didn’t think so.

Everybody gone?

Rosita, I spent hours yesterday goodling sanpaku eyes. Eerie, as you said. Aparently there are twokinds, yin sanpaku, wherethe lower sclera (white of eye) is visible, and yang sanpaku, where the upper sclera is visible. Lots of movie stars, entertainers and politicians have the yin kind, Kennedy,Monroe, Lennon, Elvis,Adam Lambert (!), Jom Morrison, Princess Diana.

Lots of murderers and serial killers have Yang eyes :Joseph Goebbels, Charles Manson, Muhammad Atta. Those are people who are “psychotic, murderous and people generally filled with rage”. Hmm. check out Glenn Beck and Nancy Pelosi…

Rosita

Wow, Mercedes, that is so interesting!
The way I heard the term was through a book I read years ago called “You Are All Sanpaku” and that must have been 20 years ago but to this day when I look in someone’s eyes I check for that!
Thanks for goodling AND googling, and happy weekend! :-)

Deirdre

August 14th, 2010

Apparently sanpaku of either kind is not always a good thing:

Generally, there are two types of sanpaku. The first is yin sanpaku, white showing below the iris, which is very common, especially among drug addicts. Here, the iris floats upward, revealing the sclera below. The second type is yang sanpaku, white showing above the iris; here the iris sinks downward toward the bottom eyelid. This reveals a dangerous or violent character. Charles Manson has beautiful yang sanpaku eyes.

If the white shows below the iris, the condition is yin, indicating that the dangers come from outside. A person with yin sanpaku eyes will place himself or herself in dangerous or threatening situations unwittingly- and may not survive.

If the white shows above, the condition is yang, and the danger comes from within. A person with yang sanpaku eyes is extremely violent, filled with rage, and likely poses a threat to himself and others. He may destroy himself, but may also take others with him.

The macrobiotic philosopher George Ohsawa wrote a book called You Are All Sanpaku and dedicated it to John Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, among others. Ohsawa said they were all seriously sanpaku and thus suffered from impaired judgment that indicated poor health and premature death. These people were excessively yin sanpaku. All of them accepted danger, but were unable to survive it.

Yin sanpaku, or white showing below the isis, is the result of excessive intake of yin substances, such as sugar, refined grains, alcohol, and medical drugs.

Yang sanpaku, or white showing above the iris, comes from excessive intake of meat, salt, and hard cheeses, and from indulgence in violence. Yang sanpaku shows a character that is self-centered and bent on fulfilling its own ambition, something without regard for the cost.

Balanced eyes, with the iris touching the upper and lower lids, reveal a balanced condition and sound judgment. Balanced eyes come from a balanced view of life and sound dietary habits, especially the consumption of whole cereal grains and fresh vegetables.

Re “Eat Pray Love”, and the authoress (Susan Gilbert?) who followed up her bestseller with a less succesful one, in which she writes about her happy second marriage to the guy she picked up in Bali (he is played in the movie by Javer Bardem, he of yin sanpuku eyes), the movie reminds me of
author Terri McMillan who wrote about her romance and marriage to a man 23 years her junior, a man she found in Jamaica. That book too became a bestseller, and movie, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back”… and then McMillan filed for divorce when she discovered that a) Jamaican hubby was gay and b) he married her to gain US citizenship.

I guess those who don’t follow Clay’s career do think he isn’t doing much or doesn’t have fans. So wrong of you to think that. Clay has the most active career of ANY AI alumni, including all the other winners (Yes..Clay is the true winner of AI2). He has had 8 SOLO tours, one co-headlining with Kelly Clarkson (in which 95 percent of the attendees were there for Clay, and Kelly understood that), this current, very fun, tour co-headlining with Ruben (in which 95 percent of the attendess are there for Clay; but Ruben is very good, too). Clay has had TWO stints on Broadway as one of the leads in Spamalot and did an amazing job in THREE roles with THREE different British accents!!! Clay has his own very thriving charity-The National Inclusion Project (formally the Buble Aiken Foundation). Clay has Emceed, and performed in, many charitable functions related to raising fund for his charity. Clay has his OWN PBS Special making the rounds this summer on many PBS stations across the country (in which he evokes the era of the 50’s-60’s). Clay has had numerous CDs and an EP released. I could go on and on but, as seen on one of his many fan sites, it could take more than a dozen pages to fill you in on all that he has accomplished over the past 7 years. And, no……..Clay doesn’t look anything at all like k.d. lang (who is incredible in her own right). In fact…Clay’s looks change as fast as you can blink!! slightly happier ending to another wedding story, personal knowledge of this one — recently a young man that worked with us a couple of years ago (call him “J”) was getting married down in savannah. his good friend, who still works with us (call him “K”), was going down to be in the wedding. the thursday night before the wedding, a bunch of the friends went out for dinner and drinks — with one properly designated as the designated driver, and abiding by it. K was supposed to ride with J and his fiance and the designated driver back to J’s house, but at the last moment, K decided he’d rather go ahead and check into his hotel, since they would allow him to do so early. K caught a cab and left, and the designated driver drove off with the wedding couple. On the way to J’s house, a fraking drunk driver plowed into their car. the bride-to-be left with a broken pelvis and ribs, the groom-to-be with injuries, the driver ok — no word on the drunk driving the truck that hit them. But if K had been in the car, he would have been directly in the impact point — no way he would have survived the hit. The couple, instead of their big fancy wedding in Savannah had a simple ceremony in the hospital. Praise God for those little miracles, you know?

“No word on the drunk driving the truck that hit them” – why do those people ALWAYS get away without injuries? So glad your young couple made it, though.

I didn’t understand how the trucker in that California desert race could plow into a crowd, kill 8 people on the spot and injure a dozen others, until I saw a story on the news. Good grief.

i’ve heard, ‘cedes, that the drunks are not hurt because they’re so limp and UNtense that they don’t break bones, etc, they just sort of bend…. makes sense in a sad way
