TMZ: Jennifer Lopez deal not 100% dead, but Shania Twain is back up

alg_idol_shania_twain

The judges’ wheel keeps on spinnin’.

People.com had a source saying the Jennifer Lopez deal was dead yesterday. TMZ now says it’s still possible. But “Idol” is now leaning toward Shania Twain, who received good reviews as a guest judge last year.

I’m still leaning toward Mariah Carey if “Idol” could afford her and tolerate whatever “diva” demands she’d surely have.

Who would you prefer as a judge?

Come on producers: sign somebody! We’ve all reached “judge search” fatigue at this point.

And the count for Austin auditions? 7,500. Not bad, not great.

Shania primary please! Not back up.

I agree 100% with judge search fatigue.

Ditto on Shania.

We don’t need Mariah (despite what Nick Cannon says) or Whitney “Train Wreck” Houston. J-Lo would be a distant second on the list.

I go with Shania. Agree that JLo would place second on my list. Mariah spends much of her time posing. That annoys me. Whitney might be a good choice. She sure can’t sing anymore.

Austin in summer is hot. Would think that might keep some folks away from the audition & send them to another city.

Some thoughts from the last entry:

D, thanks for the compliment! I do wonder sometimes what I could accomplish if all those brain cells weren’t cluttered with all this “information.” Why can’t I get a paying job with my degree in Pop Culture?

Chipper Jones: I have never known a Braves team without him. To say this saddens me is an understatement. I was already trying to wrap my head around him retiring at the end of the season. I wish him a speedy recovery and continue to hope that’s not the last we’ve seen of him. Tho, there’s I hear we’ll need a manager next season…maybe he’ll think about becoming a hitting coach down the line. Anyway.

Rickster, who’s Amanda Lamhert? Is she hot? (I’m guessing you mean Miranda…? ;) )

Mariah Carey is about as big a diva as JLo. Just sayin’. A point in her favor is that she rarely tours. So, even if she does release new music during the show, she’d still be available.

Rosita, a tad (hold your thumb and index finger about 3/4″ apart) is bigger than a bit (hold your thumb and index finger about 1/2″ apart). My Top 5 choices for female judge candidate:

1. Shania Twain – proven as a guest judge & mentor.
2. Katy Perry – proven as a guest judge.
3. JLo – but would like to see her as a guest judge to see how she would do.
4. Pat Benatar – get a true female rocker perspective.
5. Victoria Beckham – actually did fairly well as a guest judge.

Lara….LOL!!!!

Off-topic….yesterday I was visiting mom in her assisted living facility when she and all the other residents received a memo that all the lamps and other light fixtures in the facility would need to have their flourescent light bulbs(the ones that screw into regular lamps) removed because of a fire hazard.
I have a number of these in my home and asked the administrator what was going on. It seems that when these types of bulbs burn out(admittedly after many years) an uncomfortable number of them have caught fire. These bulbs have been ordered to be removed by state regulation.

I wonder when they plan to tell the rest of us.

So, in short, you were right, D., “The Expendables” is one stupy movie, with glorified cameos from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnie actually enters a church in a halo of light! Between them, Arnold and Bruce share 3 lines.

Apparentky writer/director Sylvester Stallone asked B-movie icons Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal to participate – and was turned down. Who would have thought it,Van Damme and Seagal, brainiacs!

D, scary! Are the flourecent lightbulbs the ones that look funny and are supposed to be eco-friendly?

Deirdre

August 13th, 2010
8:59 am

Yes…the ones that look like a small tube wrapped round and round. I had one burn out at my house and when I unscrewed it, the base was black and burned looking. I didn’t think anything of it. The eco-friendly bulbs are apparently quite dangerous.

The AJC gives The Expendables a C. I would really want to see it if it had been Bruce, Arnold and Sly through the whole movie. Not really excited about the other guys. Sly should have waited until Arnold was free to do more, then he could’ve made a really fun movie.

Rickster, you’re right about pacman’s attention span. I’ve linger more than five mins over your post, it won’t. Post, that is.

New lightbulbs… now there’s MY hobbyhorse. In addition to being dangerous, loaded with mercury as they are – when they break you more or less have to put on a hazmat suit to pick up the broken remnants from the floor – they also emit a nasty, high pitched sound. Every trip to the grocery story, I pick up a bunch of old-fashioned 60 watters. They will be outlawed in a few years.

Mercedes S.

August 13th, 2010

Rickster, that should be “If you linger…”

People who talk about personal pursuits as “journeys”, people who look for their inner light”, people who find bliss scrubbing floors and meditating in Indian ashrams – congrats, Julia Roberts has made a film just for you!

Based on a world-wide bestseller, in “Eat Pray Love” Smyrna’s own Julia (or Julie, as Smyrna knows her) eats her way through Italy (that journey i liked), meditaes in India, and finds love in Indonesia, with javier bardem (that ourney i liked fine too) but all the New Age prattle made me look at my watch more than once., Movie is almost 2,5 hrs long.

My guest at the movie, who calls herself a searcher and has a probelmatic life right now, said the book and the movie really spoke to her. I respect that. I’m just shallow.

What is it about Javier Bardem? Not particularly good looking(especially in No Country For Old Men), definitely a good actor, even in a language that is not his own. there’s just something that attracts your eye to him. Not sure why.

Good morning.
Mercedes, I was about to post the exact same thing re: the bulbs. I heard about a year or so ago about what can happen if they break, the mercury, etc. I took all of them out and am still using the regular old fashioned ones. They really are scary.

Re: the judges. I am highly in favor of Shania over any other female prospective one. And, my, wouldn’ t it be nice to have her and Har-RY on the same panel? I’d really like that.

And, Nana, you absolutely called the finish of SYTYCD the other day. I loved Robert, but he will be fine. Lauren overcame the tween votes that I am sure Kent drew.

Deirdre, what Javier Bardem has, and what many actors have, is something called “bedroom eyes”. It means there’s a white space between the bottom of the iris and the lower eyelid. Think “Twilight’s” Edward. Wonder what Javier’s kids with new wfe Penélope Cruz will look like. Her “attraction” is an extremely short space between nose and mouth.
