J. Lo is no go as ‘Idol’ judge; Curt Smith of Tears For Fears wooed as ‘Idol’ judge

Jennifer-Lopez-sb06Well, back to the drawing board.

Despite being close to a deal, Jennifer Lopez apparently was too demanding, according to People.

Lopez must have been making the “Idol” producers feel nostalgic for Paula Abdul!

Sigh… I’m sure they have back ups but who? Any ideas of good women they should choose? Nick Cannon is suggesting his squeeze Mariah Carey. She could be great but probably equally if not more demanding than J. Lo.

And proving how far afield “Idol” went seeking judges, today I was interviewing Curt Smith, lead singer of Tears For Fears today to promote the duo’s August 26 appearance at Chastain Park Amphitheatre. Even HE talked with “Idol” producers about becoming a judge. Though open to the idea, he doubts he’s among those seriously in the running.

Smith, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two daughters, did attend the season eight finale when Adam Lambert reprised his song “Mad World,” which he enjoyed. “I loved how he made every song his own,” Smith said, taking a line from Abdul’s “Idol” judging phrase book.

Radaronline has part of the 911 call reporting Fantasia’s alleged suicide attempt Monday ngiht.

VH1 told Access Hollywood that the show will be re-worked in light of the recent events. The show was not filming this week. (Presumably, they are wrapped up and in post production.). How they will rejigger it to reflect what has happened, I’m curious to see!

And as VH1 knows, the ratings will probably be much higher as a result.

Oh, Rodney, thank you! I was so done with the previous blog post…

As far as judges, I’d vote going full circle and asking Kelly, but clearly she’s still very much a viable artist. Seriously, why not just keep Kara or get rid of Randy and start all over? For serious consideration, maybe Gloria Estefan?

Oh, and Rickster, sub some deck shoes and short shorts with your Hawaiian shirt. Grow out a ’stache and bring back the Magnum, p.i. look! ;)

(Sidenote: Tom Selleck has a new show this fall. I. Cannot. Wait. :D )

I thought “make it your own” was Kara’s line – not Paula’s?

How ’bout we get the twin brothers from “The Proclaimers” (500 miles) to be judges? They’ve got the accent, and the cool glasses. You could swap them out like they used to swap out the Olsen twins!

How about no show!

J. Ho (sorry Rodney) is a reason why I don’t like high maintenance broads.
She was a dancer on Living Color. Then there came her “rise” as “singer”
after she became a black chick with Sean Combs. Then she rose to power
as an “actress” when she gave being a white chick a try with Ben Affleck(lousy actor).

“Jenny from the block” was in full force with Midget Marc Anthony making her a born
again Latina!

She has slept her way up the ladder, I think. Besides, I don’t watch Am. Eyedoll
anymore.

I like the suggestion of one post..How about NO judges..LOL..Brilliant idea! J lo was NOT worth being a judge hell i would rather them bring back the ding bat Paula. Ellen was a waist of time but better than Kara..Randy Girls are not DUDES so one please get that man a dictionary. Everyone is not a dawg! He gets on my last nerve trying to talk hip and young. reminds me of frank ski with his old ass still trying to be hip. I see murky waters up ahead for AI which I feel has run its course. Even so you think you can dance(with those Steel bodies is becoming more interesting) As for Fanny(Fantasia) New topic. shes out of the hospital. if she really was trying to OD. aspirin is not the answer. Rodney needs to give the masses what they want.

As I understand it the masses are interested in knowing about Fantasia meeting a nice young man and entering into a relationship with him. I guess it’s kind of like the Brady Bunch because he has a family too. Oh it is a little different than the Brady Bunch because they probably have a toilet. Then I guess she wasn’t feeling too well a few nights back and took some aspirin. I wonder if they eat pork chops and apple sauce? That pretty much sums it up right?

Why do we need judges again? What role do they have besides trying to manipulate how the audience votes? Let the contestants sing full songs, save about $50 million in salary, and use that money for production improvements and full time mentors.

In answer to the question, Shania would still be first pick for me for female judge. I think she proved herself as a guest judge last season.

I could also go with Katy “this isn’t a Lifetime movie” Perry, but she’s probably too busy right now.

Has anyone else noticed that the majority of the Fantasia (sorry for mentioning her again) enablers on the previous rope (wayyy too long to be called a thread) were the ones with the most spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure challenges?

And the holy rollers were the ones most likely to start by saying one shouldn’t judge, then in the same breath cast judgment on the rest of us for taking her skankness to task!

I wasn’t to keen of J.Lo as a judge anyway, so glad to hear she’s out. I still vote for Harry as one, but not sure of a female. Neal Patrick Harris has my vote. He was AWESOME as a guest judge during last summer’s tryouts. However, he has his plate full with “How I Met Your Mother”.

JTesla

According to Wikipedia (find a better source if you can): “Smith and Orzabal founded Tears For Fears in 1981. Their debut album, 1983’s The Hurting, reached no.1 in the UK and produced three international hit singles – ‘Mad World’, ‘Change’, and ‘Pale Shelter’ – each with lead vocals performed by Smith” and also “‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ (with Smith again on lead vocals)”

So, sometimes he was the lead singer, sometimes he wasn’t.

I think she would be a good choice. shes funny, down to earth…she has a great sense of humor and probably could give some sound advice for the business..she could be the Paula..give Hope to the contestants but sound advice from experience as a singer and performer..certainly would do no worst than Ellen. so…all the big rumors about j-lo and tyler are now history, and we can begin yet again…. but they don’t have long until the “judge-front” auditions, so SOMEONE’s gotta step up.

I’m still up for adding an alum from the show each week — someone like Melinda with tons of experience in the business AND on the show would be fantabulous.

Imo. Idol has a huge chore on its plate. On the one hand they want to bring younger people to the show. On the other hand, they don’t want to risk losing their core audience by picking judges too young and inexperienced.

There will be an outcry no matter who is picked to judge.

Hey y’all! Happy Friday Eve. :D

That’s a great article, D. My fave line from it: “Becoming an “Idol” judge: It’s the worst best job in the world!”

I–Ninjakicksbackavgn, REBA! I think she’s a great choice for entertainment and personality, especially if they are looking in the country genre. My only “concern” would be if she’s judged anything before.

I do think that choosing someone in/from the country world could be a really smart idea. One of the most loyal fanbases and the genre is really strong right now.

Mercedes, Worst Movie Ever? Roberts or Stallone? I haven’t read Eat. Pray. Love. But I’ve heard that people either love it or hate it. So…I’d guess the movie has the same “difficulty.”

As far as The Expendables, well, who knows? I think this would have been a better idea about 20 years ago. Just sayin’.

I have to admit that the trailer for The Expendables makes me laugh….not sure that’s a good thing. But putting almost every ’80’s, ’90’s and early ’00’s action guy in a movie together (those who can still walk, at least) is kind of interesting. Doesn’t mean the movie is any good but the idea has some merit…at least in the “campy fun” genre.

jennifer HOpez can’t sing, her dancing is mediocre and she won’t acknowledge she learned her hustle/swagga from Puff Daddy and never puts a WAYAN brother onto anything and they are the family that gave her her ongoing gig in LAX. She’s a token Latina. Untalented like brittany, ashanti, rihanna, ciara – all terrible lead vocalists that have to be arranged with studio fixup stuff. Sexy sells! Jho sucks! I’m glad she won’t be on IDOL. She doesn’t know anything about REAL talent.
