My annual thank you note to the blog readers

I’ve done this every season since Carrie won: a thank you note to you, the readers and contributors to this blog.
I can’t believe I’ve done this for six years. It’s been quite a ride. Sure, this year was tough to get through. Ratings were down. The competitors weren’t all that inspiring and the producers struggled to get the shows done on time. And now we say goodbye to Simon. But you haven’t gotten rid of me yet! I’ll be blogging as usual off season. Feel free to check in every day or on occasion.

We’ll be tracking the past alums (there are now more than 100), Simon’s replacement gossip and all things “Idol.”

Despite it all, traffic is up significantly this year on this blog while most other “Idol” blogs saw sharp drops. That’s all thanks to you contributors (and Larry Platt, too.) Cover It Live helped make live shows palatable, too.

And I will now thank many of people who make this blog what it is, especially Deirdre, who helped sub for me the week of my honeymoon in January and who I finally met a few weeks back in Peachtree City. She is the true heart and soul of this place. I thank her so much for her contributions.

And while Linny was limited by her work, she is a great No. 2. Others who make this blog great: Harm, Harriett, Andi, Honu, Candlerboyz, KPH, Mercedes S, Highlander, Rickster, Tami, Nana, wreckedpizza, RxDawg, KellyandCarrieFan, Chuckles, Woodpappy, Mike S, Neg, OldFart, Rosita, JD, JTesla and anybody else I’ve forgotten. (A special shoutout to Rohofan!)

If anybody wants a Bo Bice CD, email me your address at rho@ajc.com. I have a couple left. Also email me if you feel I left someone out above (and I’m sure I did.)

Rodney….and everyone else. Thanks for all the fun we’ve had agreeing to disagree (at times) about this cheesy show. I’ve said it before, but I can’t stress enough that I would have probably checked out a while back had it not been for y’all. I’ll be hanging around in the off-season ’cause there’s really a lot of Alumni to track.

Rodney, there are those who would tell me to “get a life” because I am a regular blogger/Idol watcher, but truthfully, this blog has added a great deal to my already quite fulfilling life. I love you and all the others who have become my blog friends. I look forward to hearing your (and their) thoughts and opinions, many of which are not the same as mine. That keeps the blog from being stale, imo. Thanks for all of your hard work, Rodney, in the face of what was a less-than-stellar season. I know it has not always been easy; especially with all that is falling down around you in the news business. So a special “Here’s to you,” Rodney, and a great big thank you to all of my blog mates. Now, on to Season Ten in January and to lots of cool chatter in the meanwhile. :)

“Crystal’s boyfriend left her.”

Why, because she lost AI? Maybe he thinks he can do better… “I met this girl who is the head greeter at the Wal-Mart. Head greeter… that’s like important and stuff”

Yes, I made that up.

She was just on Ryan’s show. She said he left her the morning of the performance show. Couldn’t hang with everything that was happening. He went to Colorado or somewhere. She is ok, but was hoping he’d show up for the finale. She understands he is a small town guy, and that she is living a big time dream. He just wasn’t cool with it all. But, she said that is why she was emotional in singing Up to the Mt.

Rodney, thanks for another great year on the blog. Your work is underappreciated by many, but the regulars here consider you not just a blogger but our friend.

Ran across this interesting article on Taylor Hicks.

The title of the article is “Taylor Hicks is Laughing All the way to the Bank”

http://www.popeater.com/2010/05/23/taylor-hicks-american-idol/

If you will remember, back at the end of season 5, when everyone was talking about what a failure Taylor Hicks would be I chimed in and said that album sales would not be an indicator of Hicks success or Failure — I said that his strength would be in a fan base that would make him a long term touring machine in the mode of Jimmy Buffett. he might not ever be a grammy winning chart topper, but he would sell out concerts for years to come.

Well, for the last 4 years everyone has dogged Taylor on his FAILURE as an Idol, always citing his album sales and the fact he is touring as “teen Angel” on Grease.

Well, Taylor is a FAILURE who mad $3.5 MILLION last year and who between Grease appearances and concerts performer for over TWO MILLION ticket PURCHASERS. There is not a promotoer in the world who would not sign immediately if you garaunteed him 2 MILLION in ticket sales. Also, Taylor’s contract with Grease was not just for the show – Taylor performs after every Grease performance for the audience, and has his own concessions sales at every venue. Also, Taylor Hicks owns the rights to all his recordings and gets FIFTY PERCENT of every album and song sale of his music – most artists are lucky to get 10-20%.

I don’t know about you, but I would love to be able to make over $3 Million a year – heck at that money you could call me a failure from now until the end of time.

Just a little perspective.

I havent been on the blog as much this year as in years past but it was again an enjoyable experience to come on here and chat with all you folks. Lots of things have changed over the years with people coming and going but all of us regulars will attest to the fact that this is the best blog the AJC has and as long as Rodney keeps running it that will not change. And Harm, hope you are getting back into the swing of things after the bad stuff you’ve suffered. Can’t believe it, but my baby left such gigantic hole in our hearts and home, we have just commited to a precious little Poodle girl and will be picking her up after the holiday. My angel has been gone only 1 month this week, and nothing will ever come close to her place in our hearts, but we need some joy, and I think it’s coming our way in just a few short days. Hey! I was out getting my oil changed…well, my car’s oil changed. I’m not actually due for another couple thousand miles.

Rodney…when did I first get on this blog? I’m thinking maybe near the end of Carrie’s season because I remember talking about Carrie and Bo. I know that Lara was here when I joined the fray. So she’s the “old timer” thank goodness!!!! :-)

I have to tell you that I was so incredibly honored that you asked me to write the blog for a week while you and Mrs. Rodney took your well deserved honeymoon. And I had a blast! It was so much fun and reminded me what a wonderful and supportive group of regulars we have here. It was a valuable experience that I will treasure. As you know, if we ever do that again, I have a few suggestions that would make the process easier but all in all, your colleagues at the AJC bent over backwards to try to help and I really appreciated it.

This season has been, imo, one of Idol’s worst but the wonderful conversations that take place everyday here on this blog have made up for it. Our blog friends have become a special and important part of our everyday life and I feel kinda sorry for people who don’t “get” it. While leading full and interesting lives(contrary to popular opinion) we have managed to develop friendships with people from all over the country because of this blog.

That’s a gift! So I thank you, Rodney, for keeping a door open to the world for us.

PS: I’ll bet Lee knew about Crystal’s breakup and in hindsight (as I did in foresight or just plain sight) wonder if he held back a little in deference to her on performance night. I thought he was doing that at the time, but wasn’t sure what the motive would be, unless he had decided he’d rather be second than first for whatever reason. Now I wonder if a.) he wanted her to win because he knew she was hurting and he’d still be ok at No. 2, and b.) if he realized he had some feelings for her. He did shout out “I love you, Crystal!” last night . . .

[dodging bullets] “I’m just sayin’!”

I have given up on “Reality Shows” a long time ago. Many of the most gifted and talented people don’t win not because of the judges, but because America loves it’s prejudices. you rarely see a minority win and phone in voters work the lines to make sure they don’t.

I’ll stick with news, sports and old movies .

Michael, did I miss something about Ruben, Fantasia and Jordin???? Are they not “Minorities”?

What about 3rd place contestants Kimberly Locke, Syesha Mercado or Melinda Doolittle — are they not Minorities?

Or this years 4th place contestant Michael Lynche, 12th Place contestant Paige Miles, 9th Place Contestant Andrew Garcia?????

Or let’s put it another way – a group that represents 14% of the population has WON 33% of the TITLES.

Or the two groups that represent 24.8% of the American population made up 25% of the final 12. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

IOW go peddle your race-baiting bull somewhere else Michael.

Well Rodney may be the bottle that holds the glue, but all the other bloggers are the glue itself. I appreciate everyone putting up with me, agreeing, disagreeing, and enjoying each others company while we revel in our dumb fascination with a silly show that is either over now, or well past its prime, or was always a colossal waste.

I have a more positive Idol outlook today than I did at the end of last year, and yes I’ll be around during the off season because try as he might Rodney can’t get rid of me. Although he almost had me packing my bags with that string of Adam pictures.

Well, it is official – Last night was the lowest rated Idol Finale in the shows history:

5/20/09…10.0/28…28.8 million
5/21/08…11.4/30…31.7 million
5/23/07…11.5/31…30.7 million
5/24/06…14.2/35…36.4 million
5/25/05…12.5/31…30.3 million
5/26/04…12.0/32…28.8 million
5/21/03…15.9/36…36.2 million
9/4/02 …10.7/30…22.8 million

But, even as the lowest rated finale of the 9, the show is still the #1 rated show.

kelly&carriefan

Mike $, I have to… well not disagree, but I have a point regarding Kelly. I think someone already told her that, she was looking more trim last night than she has in months. She was wearing pants, and not those mu-mu things she’s been sporting lately. The hair worked for me, they would have “worked” better if it weren’t for Carrie’s leatherish pants that were on earlier.

And yes it is a hat trick weekend. Thanks for that term Rickster, it is what is getting me through the week.

5/21/08…11.4/30…31.7 million
5/23/07…11.5/31…30.7 million
5/24/06…14.2/35…36.4 million
5/25/05…12.5/31…30.3 million
5/26/04…12.0/32…28.8 million
5/21/03…15.9/36…36.2 million
