Who won ‘American Idol’?

Did Lee deserve to win?

Lee DeWyze’s more mainstream rocker sound trumped the more eclectic, self-assured Crystal Bowersox. The vote was 51% to 49%, host Ryan Seacrest said.

Lee’s been gaining momentum the last few weeks. Crystal had been the frontrunner for weeks. She arguably performed better on Tuesday night but that didn’t matter. Lee’s likely younger supporters were simply more nimble with the texting.

The two-plus hour finale had one too many Simon Cowell tributes (including a semi-coherent Paula Abdul), an amusingly messy bit with Atlanta’s Larry Platt and William Hung singing “Pants on the Ground” and a few great duets including Alanis Morrissette with Crystal and Joe Cocker with Crystal and Lee. Chicago with Lee? Not so good. Most surprisingly good combo was Siobhan Magnus and Aaron Kelly with the Bee Gees.

And for those with sharp eyes, the Brittinum twins from Atlanta popped by, as well as Diana DeGarmo, formerly of Snellville, in the tribute to Simon which included seven of the previous winners (only David Cook was not there.) as well as dozens of past contestants.

“This is amazing,” DeWyze burbled. “Thank you guys so much! I can’t believe this.” He then sang his coronation song “Beautiful Day” as the confetti fell.

It figures, it was a beauty contest for stupid teen age girls who can text the most messages. Lee has zero chance of making it, he totally sucks. You can get that around any college campus any day of the week. He has less than zero originality. This show is on it’s last leg….yawn.

He worked the hardest and traveled the furthest.
Crystal blossomed toward the end and has earned the future she dreamed of.
AND it was an unforgettable love fest of pop music past, present and future!
Win win situation
AND Janet Jackson nearly, but didn’t, have a wardrobe malfunction.

Crystal has an amazing voice – she deserved to win but it definitely came down to teeny boppy girls coting for Lee. It’s too bad about the results but Crystal will go a lot farther than Lee will.

A repeat of last year when the wrong person won. Oh well, watch and see who’s career takes off first. That will be the test. My guess is it will be a complete repeat of last year with Crystal’s career taking off and leaving Lee in the dust. I like Lee, but his talent is no match for Crystal’s. I predict Casey James will have a better career than Lee. He sings as well as Lee and has awesome guitar skills.

Personally, neither of them is fabulous and I don’t think either has a chance at superstardom. Crystal fans can take solace in the fact that she probably has a better chance at a hot career by NOT winning. Has anyone heard Chris Allen lately? Nope. But I hear Adam Lambert, Daughtry, and others all the time.

Well, like it or not, popularity is what usually designates someone as an “idol.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t always have much to do with talent (think Justin Bieber). Crystal is so superbly professional, there’s no way she won’t have a great career in music. Lee’s voice, however, will probably go the way of Hall and Oates, only much, much quicker.

Wow……can’t believe it after Crystal absolutely blew Lee away last night. I guess the voters are made up of young teenage girls or something. I like both singers but she really brought it and was consistently better than he was all season long. Lee looked scared and unsure of himself last night while Crystal looked polished and like she really knows who she is. Oh well……hopefully they will both have great careers.

I liked Lee a lot, Glad he won. Crytsal was nice … But … She screamed to Much and gave me Headaches. And not Adam Lambert “Musical Screaming”, more like “WTF MY EARS, DEAR GOD STOP” Screaming.

Still, they’re both going to get record deals so what’s the big deal anyway? We both Win! :D

Lee may have “won”, but the “top two” signifies the best and NOW society gets to decide who they’ll vote for by how they spend their cash in the way of albums and concerts. I can appreciate the (very young) teen female crowd getting to voice their opinion and maybe their perception really IS that of Lee being the winner. No matter how clouded and misguided their ideals may be, the true artist and talent is obvious… she will succeed and I guarantee she doesn’t need a title of “winner” to continue rockin’ out!!!

Although I like Lee, the clearly superior talent did not win. I’m done with Idol until they fix their voting rules – one vote per phone number and quite trying to inflate the interest in the show by announcing inflated voting numbers. Saying “50 million people voted” or whatever is clearly misleading.

At this point it doesn’t really matter who won. They will both be very successful. I wanted Crystal to win, but I’m happy for Lee. I thought the show was great with lots of good entertainment. My favorites – Christina Agulera’s new song and Janet singing “Nasty Boys”. I even got a little choked up when all the past idols and the contestants sang to Simon. Very well done!

Dustin

Actually not the entire way, they just hated Crystal. But then again, that entire community is made up of a bunch of Low Lifes that dig in garbage cans and live in local librarys.

So that counts for … I don’t know … 1% of the Vote?

…… Tiebreaker. Crap.

This show lost a lot of credibility tonight. My rage of Crystal being denied the American Idol title she so richly deserved is only tempered by the fact that by losing she gains so much more street cred and freedom to do her music her own way.

I would rank this as the worst show in Idol history. The childish gags and poorly constructed tributes to Simon were painful to watch, and seeing Lee fumble around all night, off key and like a deer in the headlights while Crystal shined big and bright, just further drove home the fact that this show is in danger of becoming a completely irrelevant joke.

I’m simply disgusted, and can’t believe how low this program has now sunk. Pathetic.

Crystal is the undisbuted winner in my eyes. Her voice was just as good as Alanis’. Lee has an average voice and will have to work to make himselft stand out from the rest. Casey James & Bret Michaels was awesome. I love American Idol and hope it will still hold up without Simon. I will miss the Brit.

Lee can’t even sing on key on a studio recording where you have multiple chances to get it right. Crystal will be the more successful. I also don’t care what anyone says, she is absolutely beautiful, both inside and outside. She showed class and grace with the result and she will be commercially successful.

Y’all need to stop blaming Lee’s win on “tweeny boppers”! He has an awesome voice and will sell millions of records. Yes Crystal is also fantastic, and I love her voice, but – when it comes down to who’s CD I would buy – Lee is more my style. THAT is why he got more votes, more people like that style, than Crystal’s style. I know when Lee’s CD comes out, it will be mainstream rock (aka U2, Nickelback, etc.) and that is why I voted for him, I like that music. Apparently, so does 51% of America :)

Pretty obvious this season that Bowersox was in a league of her own and Lee was simply the best of the rest. This is what happens when you give unlimited voting power to middle school girls instead of letting the professional opinion have at least a percentage of the final results.

Wendi

So this is NOT a singing competition after all. What an outrage…bunch of tweenies with phones. Where are the judges?? Their expertise should count for something in the final so it is not just some stupid beauty contest. Crystal has dominated this from the beginning and last night should have sealed the deal. Shame, shame and I am done with American Idol.

This show continuously picks the wrong person — no Clay Aiken, no Adam Lambert, no Daughtry, now no Crystal Bowersox. Why is this so surprising? There is a certain demographic that votes and they vote consistently the wrong people. Let’s see: I bought Clay Aiken, I listen to Adam Lambert and Daughtry. I don’t listen to the winners, because most of them are boring! Kelly Clarkson has done the best via true pop. Look at Jennifer Hudson. She was shown the door and won an Oscar.

I recall the mild shock in the critics (judges) faces when Allen trumped Lambert. Lee doesn’t get the love from the purists out there but he will do well. Crystal will endure like a marathoner and be around for a long time. They’re both winners IMO. Now, let’s enjoy summer and work to get this nation back on track.

Lee’s actually got a great voice for radio, the problem is there are lots of people out there right now who sound like him. The U2 cover is tragic. You can’t touch a song like “Beautiful Day” and expect it to stick. Crystal is a real artist, but Pop Rock wins over Indie Boho all the time. That’s why most of the greatest music being made today is rarely ever heard on the radio. Anyway, I think the tipping point was Simon picking Hallelujah for Lee. Had that song been for Crystal we’d be having a different conversation right now. After Lee did that twitter trending rendition of that song there was literally nothing Crystal could have done to win.

toni

There is no way Lee should have won. he is clearly not as talented as Crystal. It’s just like last year when Adam didn’t win. Who even knows the name of the kid that won last year….exactly. And who cares he shouln’t have won. The young teens are the voters but maybe they shouldn’t be. They are voting for something other than the best talent and it’s not fair.

American Idols is for who votes.
“TWEENS” we all know what good taste they have.
I will be looking for Crystals albums and avoiding Lees. After all in the end the true talent has the career. I AM SURE Ms. Hudson gives a ratz azz she was voted off with a bitter Cowell comment she didn’t have the right stuff, two seconds later a GOLDEN GLOBE and an OSCAR.

Well, I’ll start with the good. The entire finale show was a total A+. Really epic entertainment. Well, except for the Dane Cook bit and most of the awkward comedy involving Simon.

Now, I could of barfed when Lee won. I’m truly sick. The far better musician and singer didn’t win. What this means is that Idol is no longer about the music. It means that their voting system is facked, and the people that mostly participate in this voting system vote for anything but what sounds good. Idol lost so much credibility after tonight. I’m afraid the show truly will be far removed from it’s former great self…… I really don’t care about watching anymore because of what the Idol voter’s look for now.

Since all the old folks are coming out to counter the assertion that teeny-boppers gave Lee the win, I guess I’ll add that I’m female, 59, and voted for Crystal as did my three grown children. My granddaughter might have voted for Lee solely for the hottie factor, but her mother doesn’t let her stay up that late. The point is not that Lee didn’t have legitimate votes from people who prefer his style of music – he surely did. The point is that Lee got votes – probably a heckuva lot of them – from young teenage girls only because he’s cute. And that’s fine. It just doesn’t equate to talent.

For ages, 16 to 100, American Citizens, that like and listen music; between Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, Crystal Bowersox won by a percentage of 81% to 19% for DeWyze.
-
Also, did you see and hear the wonderful, fantastic, amazing Siobhan Magnus performances; she also really made the Bee Gee’s moment come to life.
-
And lastly, the 6 year old girls to 15 really did luv DeWyzey and because of them, and Simon Cowel setting up the vote thing as he did, well, DeWyzey took place 1.

Some of you people are like small children. If you don’t get your way you take your ball and go home. I suspect you said the same thing after Adam Lambert didn’t win but somehow you found your way back this year.

Morning!

I really enjoyed the show last night. From the lame Simon tributes(until the last one) to the wrong singer winning, it should have been a miserable night but it wasn’t.

Casey and Bret were great!

Loved Joe, Crystal and Lee(although Lee kinda faded into the background)

Loved Siobhan and Aaron (could have done without the BeeGees)

Thought the girl group sing was well done.

Thought the boy group sing looked awkward.

Cristina made me yawn.

Janet was pretty good.

My biggest complaint about the show is the EXTREMELY poor direction. The camera kept losing people or didn’t spend enough time on people. The blocking was horrible, especially Crystal with Alanis. The 2 of them kept criss-crossing each other and it was hard to follow the song, never mind the movement. What happened to standing still and singing? Did the director honestly think we would be bored watching Alanis and Crystal sing together?

My absolute favorite part was watching each of the former winners sing to Simon(mild disappointment that David Cook couldn’t make it)

Seriously folks…did you hear those voices? Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Jordin, Fantasia, Taylor, Carrie, Kris! Wow. And now were going to add lee’s voice to that group. wow. :-(

Good Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “To win is not always a good thing; sometimes it’s better to lose.”

My quote this morning represents my feelings on the winner last night. I don’t believe that Lee should have won, that Crystal was more polished and had so much more talent than he, but as we all know, the best doesn’t always when.

Overall, I thought the show was very good, but that we could have had a little less of Paula hanging all over Simon. After 7 out of 8 winners plus some of the others past idols on stage at the same time was a very touching moment for me. I noticed that Bo Bice was in the audience and I wondered why he wasn’t on stage as well as Diana DeGarmo when the others were.

Almost choked on my tea when William Hung came on stage during “Pants on the Ground”. He still sounded awful! :(

I really enjoyed Casey and Bret but the best part of the night was the return of all the idols from the past. I wish they would have scanned the cameras across them more I would have loved to seen more of them. I could have done without Paula’s speech.

Excuse me, but are the “tweens” that you all keep referring to not Americans? (Hence the term American Idol) Of course it’s a popularity contest. When has it not been? You like who you like and I like who I like and that makes us all Americans. If this show is your life, I am sorry for you. It’s a TV show where the most popular contestant wins. Back off of Lee. VFTW did not back him all the way. Only the last week. Tim was there for most of the season. Lee won. Get over it. You all know that Crystal will be fine. Get a grip people.

Idol needs a litmus test for voters, you must have a brain. Crystal got the kind of screwing she didnt enjoy.

Both were deserving, and both will do great commercially. I would have chose Chrystal, but it was close. A really good season- it won’t be the same without Simon.

Awards time:

Highlight of the Night – for former Idol contestants on stage together. The ones who attended must represent about 25-30 million in album sales. Of course, Carrie and Kelly make up about 21 million of those sales.

Best sighting – Paula

Worst speech – Paula

Best Performance by a Season 9 Contestant – Casey and Bret

“If the shoe fits” award – Lee singing with Chicago. NONE of the singers could stay in tune. How appropriate. I loved Chicago when I was younger, but man, that was excruciating.

The “I used to be a big deal” award – Christina

The “Changed the least” award – Joe C0cker. That guy still can’t hit most of the notes in a scale. Lee should have sang with him as well.

The “Velveeta” award for cheesiest performance – Cheese Puff Daddy. Are you surprised?

The “my arms hang by my side when I walk” award – Casey during the boy group sing.

The “unusual pairing but great sounding performance” award – Siobhan and Aaron

“The angry woman songs are verrrrry dated” award – Alanis

The “Who the hell is that” award – the dude who sang the dumb song about what Simon said.

The “guy who looks most awkward during the group sing and dance” award – Andrew. Just no rhythm there.

The “girl looking the most out of place during the group sing and dance” award – Paige.

The “Dynamic Duo of irrelevance” award – Kara and Ellen

What an underuse of the glorious Kelly! She should have had a song of her own, like Carrie was afforded. And she should have sung with Christina, since they’ve written songs together. But at least there wasn’t a duet with Fantasia, as was speculated yesterday – talk about mixing sugar and vinegar!

Very disappointed for Crystal, but I think she’ll go a whole lot further than Lee will.

I loved the show last night. And, for me, the highlight was the Paula-Simon reunion. When the curtain opened and she walked out, tears came into my eyes and did not leave until after Simon’s speech. Sorry, folks, but I have missed Paula and am going to miss Simon terribly. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend, to be really cliche.

Lee should not have made the top 10, yet another year with a very poor choice. I am through watching this show, the quality was way off this year, and I don’t we that trend not continuing.

No dought
Crystal should have been the winner, but when you put the the judging in the hands of tiny boppers and not professional judges then thats what you get. In 9 yrs. the rite desision has only been made twice. Just look at what the winners have done and look at what the should have been winners have done. The show has become a popularity contest and not a singing – talent contest. What it was ment to be.
