‘American Idol’ top 6 performance show recap

Who were your top two tonight? (Pick up to two)

I’m so sorry I wasn’t around for live blogging. I got caught up at a CNN meet-and-greet cocktail party in downtown Atlanta featuring local CNN talent (Rick Sanchez), execs (Turner Broadcasting CEO Phil Kent), producers and guests such as Mayor Kasim Reed, “Apprentice” alum Wes Moss, “Real Housewives” alum DeShawn Snow and “Top Chef” contestant and Pure Vida owner Hector Santiago. It figures I recognized the reality TV participants.

I hope Deirdre was able to keep you up to date!

UPDATE: Okay, I’ve got it. I wasn’t quite as impressed with the performances tonight as the judges.

Who will go home? That’s going to be a tough call. I think the bottom three will be Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly and for the first time, Crystal Bowersox. Michael will go home. I thought both Michael and Aaron pulled off perfectly respectable performances but they were both forgettable to me. Crystal cruised through without a lot of effort and may leave the voters a bit less enthusiastic than normal.

I really enjoyed both Casey and Lee. Both felt easygoing and connected to their songs. Siobhan was a mixed bag for me.

My rankings: 1. Lee 2. Casey 3. Crystal 4. Siobhan 5. Aaron 6. Michael

As for Shania as a mentor: sweetly unremarkable.

Up first: Lee DeWyze (”You’re Still the One”) – He picked one of her biggest crossover hits. I wasn’t a big fan of that song. But somehow, Lee made me like it. He sang it with some finesse and lots of love.
Randy: It started out a little pitchy but midway through you made it your own. You found your sweet spot.
Ellen: You did better than a pretty good job. You make it your own. You couldn’t look cuter. All aboard the Shania Twain.
Kara: Look at far you’ve come. That’s a love song. I don’t know if you relate to it but you cracked a smile a few times.
Simon: That was absolutely the perfect song. Started a little hesitant. You were pulling some weird faces. [It's the smirk.]

Who are the bottom three? (Pick up to three)

Second up: Michael Lynche (”It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing”) – It’s a typical Lynche performance. Vocally quite strong but how much you like it depends on how much you buy into his performance. I’m still not buying it.
Randy: You did a great job. You are in the zone of who you are. There’s a wide open space for you.
Ellen: It felt like Luther Vandross. I felt your emotion. I felt you get into it.
Kara: I always that you go to that place that relates to you. You put your mark on it.
Simon: It was spot on. The performance was a little bit wet. You were in a musical acting out the words… it was a little girly.

Third up: Casey James (”Don’t”) – This is definitely one of his better performances, tackling a ballad. He spent too much of the song with his eyes closed but he connected with this song in a similar way to how he did “Jealous Guy.” He clearly does better with the ballads than the faster rock tunes.
Randy: This is one of the best Casey James’ performances ever.
Ellen: That’s where you belong. I thought it was your best performance to date.
Kara: Artists do not hide the good, bad and ugly. You didn’t hide it. You were vulnerable and raw.
Simon: Last week was a much needed wake-up call. I actually agree with Randy. This is probably your best performance so far. You were singing the song. It didn’t feel like somebody else’s song. You should give [Shania] a kiss on the lips. [He gave her a hug, not a kiss.]

Fourth up: Crystal Bowersox (”No One Needs to Know Right Now”) – She really took it country. It was pleasant but ultimately nothing to write home about.
Randy: I love you try different things.
Ellen: I say it every week. There’s nothing you can’t do. Not my favorite performance but like what’s your least favorite color of the rainbow.
Kara: It’s impossible for you not to be good. You’re always coming from a place of truth.
Simon: We don’t like Crystal this week. It was limp, something you see in a coffee shop. I didn’t feel any conviction. And the song was forgettable [sorry Shania].

Fifth up: Aaron Kelly (”It’s in the Way You Love Me”) – Technically, perfectly fine. But tonally, he doesn’t resonate with me. And emotionally, I wasn’t bowled over.
Randy: This is your wheelhouse. You did a really good job.
Ellen: This is going to be tough. Everybody is doing well.
Kara: I completely agree with you. You really felt those words. [He did change a line cos he was singing it to his mom.]
Simon: You’re only 17. The last two or three weeks, you’ve struggled. Didn’t get it at all. However, tonight, you were like a different artist. It felt sincere. It felt believable.

Pimp spot: Siobhan Magnus (”Any Man of Mine”) – This was the song that got Mandisa eliminated season five. Siobhan, as usual, went all out. She went into the crowd, too. But she just seems kind of stiff to me on stage. And her vocals are all over the place. Plus, that scream/screech never endears her to me.
Randy: I love the punky country look. I loved it.
Ellen: Way to pull the Shania Twain into the station. Good way to end the show.
Kara: Guess who’s back? Siobhan!
Simon: I really really liked that song. I’m not normally a fan of country. The screaming may have gone a little bit. It was like you were giving birth out there.

Lee–Really enjoyed it, agree with Kara–he’s got that “it” sound that makes his voice the current radio sound.
Mike–He has incredible vocal control, and he’s got a lovely tone–I’m hot and cold about him, but it was good tonight.
Casey–When he is on his game, he gives me shivers. Wow. *Wow*.
Crystal–My favorite contestant, perhaps of all time, and this was hideous.
Aaron–Bored now. Dull. Sung competently and instantly forgotten.
Siobhan–the instrumentation swallowed her a bit in the beginning, and there were some pitch issues. I understand what the judges said about it being fun.

Please, heavens, don’t let Crystal go home for this.

1. Not Crystal! Mike. Best of his in a while.
2. Lee tonight for me, and I don’t even like him.
3. Crystal
4. Casey
5. Aaron, still don’t like him, but sounded good.
666. Siobahn. I can’t believe they didn’t say “I don’t know what artist you are.” Terrible song choice. Pitchy. And, of course, the gratuitous big note. I wonder if she ends phone calls that way, too.

Not sure how I’d rank them to be honest. Liked Siobhan tonight and I’d been worried about her going downhill. And poor Crystal, who I usually like, actually falls to the bottom for me, tonight only. She just had an off night, nothing more.

The rest fall somewhere in the middle.

1. Casey – Awesome job, very believable
2. Mike – Very good…looks like he is working on his attitude – kudos!
3. Crystal – Not my fave, but really cool that she went out on a limb this week
4. Lee – ok…he is shouting sometimes in this song
5. Aaron – Judges loved it…me…not so much
6. Siobhan – I don’t see what everyone else sees in her…can’t stand her face when she sings and she can sing horribly the entire song and then scream at the end and somehow the judges forget about the entire performance and just praise the screaming. I just don’t get it. But, she will probably make it through again. yuk

3. Casey
4. Mike
5. Aaron
6. Lee

Neg’s proclamation:

1. Crystal – She seemed uneasily bashful with the song’s message, but was perfect in her vocals.

2. Lee – I only liked the opening. For the first time he showed his softer tone, which I thought was brilliant. Then he resorted to his single not gravel, which just another faceless Lee growl song.

3, Aaron: Cheeseboy nailed it, but the Archie wannabe vibe annoyed me. I’m so tired of his endless ballads.

4. Mike: Well done in general, but I felt he was putting on an act.

5. Casey: You sold out to Michael Bolton ballad music! Up yours, pretty boy!!! Boooooo!

6. Siobhan: WHAT A FACKING MESS! Easily her worst performance to date. Embarrassingly phony with that crowd hand slap, and the point marks for her singing on the back stage was so overstaged and wooden it was uncomfortable to watch. No believability whatsoever, and that shriek at the end was just horrific. Oh, and that outfit…repugnant!

1. Casey – now there we go. That’s how you sing in a singing competition. I’m not sure if he can get out performances like that and Jealous Man every week from here out, but he has got some serious cinderella ability in him.

2. Aaron – This was his bread and butter and he didn’t disappoint. It started off a tad weak, but he quickly remedied it and sounded nice.

3. Crystal – I loved Randy’s comparison to Nickel Creek. I agreed with Crystal that bigger isn’t always better. She is strong enough to pull something like this off with no probs what so ever.

4. Shibonbon – I actually didn’t like this very much at all. She was lazy with the rhythm when she sang. It was like she was a hair behind the beat or something. It was also very soft. If it wasn’t for that ending this wouldn’t of been good.

5. Michael – yuck. It sounded nice enough I guess, I just flat out didn’t like it. I’m kind of tired of this same ol’ ultra R&B ballad crap. Where is the guy that sang It’s a Man’s World? That’s truly the only time I enjoyed Mike.

6. Lee – this was 10% great, 30% garbage, and 60% average at times throughout the song. The more the judges undeservedly pimp him, the more I hate him. He screws up royally all over the place and sings like he has had a stroke and the judges never give him grief for it.

I think Lee should go, but it will probably be Mike. Everyone else was pretty solid, although I was disappointed in Shibonbon.

My rankings tonight:

1 – Casey James
2 – Michael Lynche
3 – Aaron Kelly
4 – Lee DeWyze
5 – Siobhan Magnus
6 – Crystal Bowersox

I thought Casey’s performance was the best of the night. Good for him.

I was disappointed in Lee and Crystal tonight.

Siobhan did the usual scream at the end, but I actually thought she did a little better this week than in previous weeks.

Michael Lynche’s performance was better than most have given him credit for.

I was going make a bold prediction that one of the leading contenders (Crystal or Lee) was going to go home this week after less than stellar performances this week, but I think Rodney and many others are probably more on target in the prediction of Michael Lynche leaving the competition after tonight.

Dial Idol has Aaron safe and way ahead – by a HUUUUGE margin. Crystal looks safe, too, though they won’t call it officially. The rest are pretty bunched from 3rd-6th, but it looks like fat Mike might be in a bit o’trouble.

My rankings and notes . . .

1. Casey – somebody got a voice coach. for the first time, he is really opening his mouth and singing with some air instead of strangling the notes. he’s headed for the top three.

2. Lee – wasn’t perfect but when it was good, it was very very good.

3. Crystal – not everyone likes the old time country sound with the slide guitar and snare and base but I liked it — though not my favorite Crystal performance of all time

4. Aaron – his voice was perfect for this song. still lacking in the charisma department and that means he is not going to be around much longer

5. Mike – OK, I’ll admit I’m not a Luther Vandross fan, so shoot me.

6. Siobhan – tired of the gimmicks. she’s headed home.

11:54 pm

Was fairly pleased with tonight. All 6 did fairly well, no trainwrecks to be seen although there were some wobbly moments. Love shania Twain, so I was predisposed to enjoy this week.

1. Siobhan Magnus – Any Man of Mine – I thought this was Shabonbon’s best performance in weeks. She held the glory note a little too long, but other than that she knocked shanaynay out of the park.

2. Casey James – Don’t – Best Casey has done in a long while. For the first time it felt like Casey actually connected with a song. great job.

3. Michael Lynche – It Only Hurts When I’m breathing – OK I love Michael when he does the ballads, and he brought it in spades tonight. Loved this, it was pitch perfect and done brilliantly.

4. Crystal Bowersox – No One Needs To Know – This was cute. For the first time I wasn’t totally blown away by Crystal, but her performance was very good as usual. She is still the best in the competition by far, but for tonight I liked the other performances a little better.

5. Lee DeWyze – Still the One – By far Lee’s worst week in a while. The first half of the song lost me as it felt like he was shouting the whole time. The last part was actually pretty good, but Lee had lost me by that point. Not horrible by any means, but not my favorite.

6. Aaron Kelly – You Got A Way With Me – This was kind of boring for me. It wasn’t horrible, but it was not very good. The WHINEY NASALLY Aaron was back, and that style of voice just grates on my last nerve. No where near as painful as his first few weeks, but nowhere near as good as he has gotten. A huge step backward in my opinion

SHOULD GO HOME – Aaron. He is just not in the same league vocally or performance wise with the other 5. He has had a good run, but it is time to exit stage right.

WILL GO HOME – This is a crapshoot to be honest. Aaron probably has the tweeners in his hip pocket, so everyone else needs to worry. It really could be any one of the other 5 if the texting morons save Aaron.

Well, as always it’s a matter of taste, and mine is a bit different. This is the week where the good were bad and the bad were good:

1) Casey. First time I have actually “liked” him and for the second time during the whole season he didn’t sing with that stupid smile.

2) Aaron. Sounded good, he’s still very forgettable, and he sang it to his mom? He knew he shouldn’t have said that right after the words passed his lips.

3) Big Mike. Meh

4) Lee. Meh

5) Crystal, ok she sang it well, but the arrangement, the twang, not for me. Again it’s taste. I can stand some country, but with the stops and the odd stuff going on… too much

6) Siobhan: It was bad, no wait, it was bad until she started that long out of place scream and then it was really really bad. Self indulgent. It was the first time of the night that the word “pimping” came to mind.

WHO was the worst: Randy for yet again booing when Simon is introduced. Welcome to the 4th grade Randy now get out.

Who will go: one person, thankfully, because this season is dragging. Take out two that would be ok with me. However, I’d be more than happy to board the Shania “Twain” with Ellen.

Morning!

I think we’re becoming hooked on our favorites. Like Honu said last night…he was bad but I’ll vote for him anyway.

Crystal is definitely the best singer but she sure wasn’t last night. And after listening to Siobhan again, I would not rank her first either…which I did. We tend to hear what we want to hear from the contestants we want to place high. Casey, without any doubt in my mind and after listening to his performance again, was the best last night.

Does that mean he should win? No! But he WAS the best(to my ears) last night.

Siohban was good but awkward. Aaron surprised us all with a very good performance last night and does not deserve to go home.

IMO, which certainly goes against the grain, Lee is the only contestant left who CONSISTENTLY has pitch problems. When, WHEN, have we EVER tolerated pitch problems on American Idol. Yet this season, we do. I just shake my head. If Lee wins, he will, imo, be the worst winner ever!

Siobhan is as about as bad as it gets and her sense of style needs to be put out of it’s misery. She looked like she and a friend went on a shoplifting spree at Kmart and they went in different directions stealing clothes and she wore what they stole. She looks constipated when she screams. She was in a word GODAWFUL. It was sooooo predictable that the judges were going to come down on Crystal because she is so far ahead of the pack and they need ratings with DWTS kicking their butt, even with the lame results show of DWTS. Michael was horrible as well. Randy has totally lost it as a judge; Ellen has never had it and Kara…well Kara, about as interesting as a bowl of cold beans when you’re hungry. Siobhan, go home and let Michael ride share. Peace :)

Yay…PC time! I agree Deidre. I think Casey was the best last night and I actually liked Crystal. Siobhan’s performance was flat to me. She may have hit the right notes but that song needed to be sung with lots of attitude and there was none. I think I’m tired of hearing her do the slow vibrato. A few times – it’s good. But when she does it every song through most of the performance it becomes annoying. My least fave was Mike. I think he’s in trouble.

Sioban going home – She messed up “Any Man Of Mine”

Sound should be rough and gritty.
She sang it soft, then then ending was bad. Okay we know you can scream, but it sounded real bad in that song.

That being said, overall I think Michael Lynch is overall last so he should go home.

I still do not understand the hate for Mike, but I accept that only a few folks here even tolerate him. But, for crying out loud, he was good last night–far above Lee, voice-wise. I have said it before–I know he won’t win. But he IS a good singer, and much more connected to every single song he’s sung than most. Now, having said that, I agree that Casey brought it best last night. LIke, D, in retrospect Siobhan was not as good as I “heard” on the first listen. Purely ranked upon last night’s performances, here is my list:

Casey
Mike
Aaron
Siobhan
Crystal
Lee

I really do not understand the animosity toward Big Mike from so many people. Next to Crystal he is without a doubt the most consistently ON KEY singer in the entire competition. Almost every note that comes out of his mouth is pitch perfect.

Siobhan and Casey are usually pretty close to on pitch, but both have had moments of where they have wandered into “OH god my ears” land.

Aaron does WHINE quite on key mucvh of the time in his own annoying horrible NASALLY way.

Lee, dear dear Lee, I have rated him high quite a few times and have enjoyed many of his performances – indeed he is one of my favs – but I have to agree with Deirdre on his pitch problems. He covers them nicely, but he is usually ‘around’ the note not on it. LOL

I do think it is telling that most of the critisisms of Big Mike have nothing whatsoever to do with his voice or singing ability, almost all pannings of Mike include personal attacks on his “posing’ or ‘arrogance’ or ‘the way he stands’ — BLAH BLAH BLAH YADA YADA YADA.

Wow, there are a lot of extremes in opinions on here this year.
I am not a Siobhan fan and I thought last nights performance just added to that. Strange arrangement, strange outfit and ugh, that scream!
Casey really stepped up to the plate and I can see him going down that country boy road in the future.
Big Mike was just ok, just average, middle of the pack.
Top 3 – Casey, Lee and Crystal (just because I can’t put Aaron here for 1 decent performance)
Bottom 3 – Siobhan, Aaron, Mike (hoping Siobhan goes home, but will probably be Mike

It’s not that Mike is a bad singer, I just don’t like the tone of his voice alot of the times. I think his voice works 100% for an R&B catalogue but I don’t think he sounds that great when forced to sing outside that genre. It’s not his fault but it is what it is. American Idol has all the contestants sing different genres to showcase their weaknesses/strengths. Mike and country? That’s like having Carrie sing Lil Wayne or Snoop. Just doesn’t work. :-)

Mike sings very well. I’ve said that almost every time he’s performed. My problem has more to do with tone. When he went to the falsetto at the end of the song last night, it really annoyed my ears. Luther could hit his falsetto and the “glide” of it was beautiful. Ruben could sing high but still sound like a man. I’ve said before that Mike’s voice reminds me of Mike Tyson’s speaking voice…just a little deeper.

So, it’s nothing personal with Mike Lynche. He’s a good singer. I just don’t like the sound of his voice.

As for Siobhan’s look? I love it! It’s cute, quirky and competely appropriate for someone her age. She’s not your girl next door. But she is unique and eccentric, and her look fits her personality. And if anyone will observe the young girl fashions, it’s new-retro 80’s. Kind of like Siobhan.

I know it didn’t have the “wow” factor of her other performances, but come on, it sounded great even though it wasn’t a big song. The harmonies and the lap guitar were awesome. I think she looked as relaxed and happy as I’ve ever seen her, as well.

I agree that Lee didn’t sound that great and once again I found myself thinking “am I hearing a different song than the judges???”

This was the first performance of Siobhan’s that I enjoyed, that is, until the SCREAM.

I thought Big Mike’s performance was great, right up there with Casey’s. Aaron sounded fine, but he’s just so BLAND.

Athough Big Mike pulled it off, county night is never good for traditional R&B singers. If R&B singers can get through country night, they usually finish strong. Big Mike is one of the stronger and more mature vocalist, but Idol tends to be more of a popularity contest than talent (Simon). Aaron or Casey should be the ones leaving tonight, but we all know it won’t happen.

Whatever. I have made my opinion known. Now, if Mike goes home, I will be sad. Then, I will pick another favorite from who is left. Meanwhile, if he’s given another week, I will simply enjoy listening.

I don’t care for Siobhan. She tries too hard to be dress fashionable but she always looks a mess. Her screaching at the end of the songs is getting redundant and tiresome. Although everyone was good, she was the weak link, then Lee. Big Mike and Casey were the best.

Good morning folks. Well for the first time this season I dont think Crystal was #1. I do think she did ok on the song but the song choice cost her the #1 spot last night. She is right that bigger is not always better but at this point in the competition you need to come up big every time.

I wish Alex Lambert were still in the competition. He had an awesome voice and was more deserving to be here than some of those who still are. It could have been an entirely different running right now had he remained.

Deirdre,
What’s so important about pitch and key? You just said it about Mike: he is technically good but the tonality is off for you.
Many great singers are far from technically perfect: Hank Williams (Sr.), Joe C**ker, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard.
Isn’t entertainment about heart rather than pitch?

Rosita, those “entertainers” you mention are exactly that. They’re unique and have a “schtick”. They’re tones may not be god’s gift to the ears but they bring something different that causes one to look and listen. I don’t think Mike fits that category. I”m with Deirdre on this one my friend.

I’m in agreement with someone above who pointed out they ae beginning to dislike Lee because of the excessive pimping by the judges. Nobody wants to see a performer given false praise in an effort to manipulate the audience, so if the judges are trying to send him home they are doing a great job.

Props to Simon for ripping on Crystal last night. I think she did a very nice job, though not spectacular, but the fact that she wasn’t tremendous left an opening to be criticized and by ripping her when she has the capital built up to handle it he can now praise her with credibility.

Neg to judges: You harp ad nauseum about the “believability” of the contestants, yet you as judges are so often the complete phonies, trying to prop up or tear down contestants disingenuously in an effort to influence the vote.

Rosita

eagle, you are saying exactly what I am: it’s not about technical perfection. My fave is Lee, and I find it odd not that others don’t care for his style but that if he is praised it is viewed as pimping. He’s not anything like David Cook; he’s unique and heartful and, yes, pitchy.
I like college football better than pro ball, too. Less predictable. :-)

Deirdre

April 28th, 2010

Rosita…I like Lee’s style just fine. I liked it WAY better on David Cook cuz Cookie could sing on key. And Cookie could make a song his just by changing a note here and there.

Since this actually IS a singing contest….I think a major priority for each contestant should be hitting the notes. Sure, someone is going to miss a note every now and then and sure, there are a lot of singers who don’t sing very well but are really popular(Taylor Swift comes to mind along with Joe Co*ker) Maybe it’s just me, but I think American Idol should be won by someone who can sing pretty consistently through the whole competition.

KPH

I will say this however Crystal was the only one to do a song that actually sounded country to me. I really enjoyed her accompaniment.

Deirdre

April 28th, 2010
10:08 am

That being said, there are contestants who hit the notes consistently but have no performance skills(Aaron), who hit the notes consistently but whose tone I’m not fond of(Mike) and who hit the notes consistently but are just a little too outside the box to win(Siobhan)

Therefore, it’s my opinion that the finale should be Crystal and Casey. Casey is mostly pretty boring which leaves Crystal as the winner. But that’s just how I see it. Clearly, and rightly so, others have different opinions. If they didn’t, this would be a pretty boring place! ;-)

I’m a Lee fan, Rosita, though Crystal is by far my favorite. Lee has a great growl, but needs to learn vocal restraint. When you sing in the same gravel rock voice all the time it makes for a monotonous performance, and too often that’s the flaw with him. Everything sounds the same.

What I liked last night is how he opened the song with a deep undertone and it really worked. Then, after the opening verse, BAM, he jumped right back into the Lee gravel rocker voice the entire rest of the song, and it was boring. A missed opportunity, but it did for the first time show he can effectively sing in a softer tone, and he’ll need to develop that vocal maturity if he wants to become successful post-idol.

Rosita

All in all, I thought AI was good entertainment for the full hour last night, and if Paula had been up there it would have been perfect. . .

I don’t give a rip how well the artists I like can sing, so long as they aren’t lip syncing on stage. So yeah, if a Britney Spears type can’t reproduce her recorded voice at all, it sucks. But someone like Taylor Swift who’s in the ballpark of where she’s supposed to be is fine. At that point I care more about the music and lyrics than perfection.

Incidentally, even though I know he’s not technically great, I find Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam to be the best singer around. Or Chris Cornell of Soundgarden & Audioslave. Those type singers. I find that to be much more impressive than straight R&B style singing, especially when today’s R&B artists pale in comparison to the guys from Motown.

“Harriett
uga, Aaron will probably NOT go home tonight. He is popular, and even may, like Kris Allen, be a dark horse. I could almost sense his moving up a notch last night.”

I know Aaron’s not going home tonight. I check the dialidol site weekly. I also acknowledge that yesterday he was in the top 2 performances. Strong praise from me this week, just like the judges had for him. But cumulatively, he’s not in the class of the other 5 left. The other 5 have been the clear best 5 of the finals portion of the competition. And this is defining best in terms of only 3 things:
1. vocal ability since everyone here cares so much on that
2. song arrangement
3. not being a ***hole on stage

1. Everyone left is good here. Shiobohan and Lee mess up the most obviously. Shiobohan has more raw talent than most though. Aaron has the weakest voice. Just because he’s young doesn’t mean he’ll grow into the Rascal Flats type voice he’s aiming for.

2. Casey and Crystal shine here. Big Mike is pretty good, as I liked his early stuff with a guitar and feel that the producers sort of forced him into this R&B role. He’ll do ok in concerts when he’s not being pigeon-holed. Lee and Shiobohan have often done badly here but try hard. Aaron has a lack of any originality or style.

3. Big Mike, Crystal and Shiobohan have all lost points with me for their attitude. Big mike’s posing and picking up Ryan and such is for 8 year olds. I’m not 8 and I reserve the right to dislike him for it. Crystal is whining every week. Like yesterday when she said something like “**** you guys, it’s country week and I was the countriest, how dare you critique me”. Something like that is what I translated. Shiobohan isn’t as rude or calculated, she just goes on long rambling discusions of why her song really was great. It’s more sad than rude but I still don’t like any back-talk to the professional judges.

Can we please have some respect for John Lennon! It’s “Jealous Guy”, not “Jealous Man”.

Hated the whangyness of the band, but thought Crystal really sang the song great – a little coquetteish, and very solid. Only the band was real country, she was good.

Casey was great.

The rest, mezzi mezzi.

Andrea Bocelli – I agree, if this was a singing competition those type singers would be what was here. But it’s not really a singing competition any moreso than Survivor is about wilderness survival or the Real World is about average experiences average people have. You have to be able to sing a little, but after that it’s not about the singing. If it was we would have had a different winner in many of the seasons, including some people that may have went out quite early.

Good Morning,

Had to watch a recorded idol last night. Interesting to note how strongly bloggers cheer for their chosen one, no matter how he/she performs. Crystal’s fans will love her to the death, and Siobhan’s haters will forever fault her for her “screech”, her “mess”, her “weirdness”,, and whatever else makes her stand out from the crowd.

IMHO, what makes Siobhan stand out is her uniqueness. Is this what makes her uncomfortable to many viewers who seem to prefer to champion someone they “sort of” have seen before (Lee, Crystal, Mike, Aaron)?

Just wondering…

Siobhan can’t %^&*ing sing. She screams, and when she doesn’t scream her voice is way back in her throat like Kermie the Frog. Puhleeze. That girl’s no singer. I like her weirdness though.

Harriett, I am with you on Big Mike. This man can sing; and I’m not a R&B fan at all. He has delivered week after week and did a good job with the song last night. In fact, I looked at Mrs. ‘Pizza and told her if anyone said he was “cheesy” tonight then they really have no clue.
He may go home (someone has to do so!) but I think he should be around a few more weeks. This is, after all, a SINGING competition. Do I give a fig if he poses, puckers his lips, or anything else? Focus on his singing, please.

Same with Miss Magnus. I don’t care how (or if) she dresses. If she sings well (with or without scream) then let it be. I think sometimes her big notes are confused with screaming, anyway. Figured “Any Man Of Mine” would be a train-wreck, but it wasn’t bad. I kinda enjoyed the ending, “scream” and all.

The above opinions are mine. I shared them with you at no cost. What a country!
