Season six’s Stephanie Edwards arrested for fighting

stephanie-edwards

Yes, I barely remember her, too, but when a former “Idol” gets in any trouble (right Chickezie?), it’s always worth a mention. Stephanie Edwards, who finished just behind Chris Sligh and missed the tour season six, is from Savannah and obviously still lives there.

Maybe she can now try out for Oxygen’s “Bad Girls Club?”

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A former “American Idol” finalist is out of jail after Savannah authorities arrested her for fighting in a local park Monday night.

Stephanie Edwards mug shot

Savannah-Chatham police say they reported to a 50th Street park around 9:40 p.m. to find 22-year-old “Idol” finalist Stephanie Edwards fighting with 20-year-old Laquilla White.

According to a police report, the women were separated without any injuries.

Edwards told police the fight began after she received several harassing phone calls.

According to the Idol Web site, Edwards was an 11th place finalist in its sixth season, which aired in 2007. The site also lists Edwards’ hometown as Savannah.

Both women were taken to the Chatham County jail where spokesman Deputy Ron Robinson says they each made $1,300 by midnight.

Hey, I remember her! Don’t mess with Stephanie Edwards. People harassing and stalking her, she will beat you silly. She was tall and with those long arms could whoop you. I’m sure she and Chickezie could join the “Bad Eggs of Idol” show that will air sometime next year right after the “Idol: where are they now” show.

I’m sure it’s a typo, but mildly interesting how “they each made $1300 by midnight”. Probably meant they made their bail – mildly humorous anyway ;-)

Anyone surprised? Typical thugs. Laquilla? That’s a new one. At least it ends with an “A” like most thug girls names.

Living in Savannah myself, Stephanie is from Savannah, that is why the fight took place in Savannah and she was arrested in Savannah. A far cry from Augusta, she has always been from Savannah, so I’m not sure where you got Augusta from.

Stephanie has done a lot of things since idol. she do a lot of shows out west and up north and savannah. she is working on her second album and the single sounds great. Love it!!!! She has done a lot of good things since idol. Its amazing how one bad incident will bring the media to pick up on a story and make a person look bad and not even mention all of the great things a person has done. I’m not related to her nor do i know her personally but i saw some of the charity work, volunteer work and donations she has given. Its also a shame that when a black person does something negative such as fighting, smoking weed, etc. they are persumed or called a thug or ghetto. (i guess we are the only people that can be a thug or ghetto).

I have lived in a few places, relocating for work – and I can honestly say, without hesitation, that Georgia is THE MOST racist city I have ever lived in. The comments that AJC readers leave in all columns and stories throughout the online edition are offensive, and deeply troubling. I’m sorry I moved my children here…and hope that a new opportunity to raise them up comes my way soon. Georgians should be the last people to preach anything about family values, or any about decency of people.

Wow J…didn’t know Georgia was a city? And way to lump the entire state into your rant. Don’t generalize or anything. A few of the comments in this blog are totally uncalled for…and yours is one of them. There are many wonderful, kind-hearted, beautiful people that live in and come from this state.

Georgia is a racist state. Every day I read these posts and everyday no matter what the subject matter is someone finds something negative to say about african americans and I am getting sick of it. Why does the AJC put this crap out there. I know that there is freedom of speech, blah, blah, blah but enough is enough. You people need to get a life. My name ends with an A and it is a very normal “white” name.

Sorry JoeV, while it’s obviously not accurate to “lump the entire state” into a single category, you have to admit there is some truth to it. I’ve only been living here a year and in my neighborhood(somewhere in Gwinnett Co.), my place of work, and hanging out with friends I have seen undeniable racism. These ppl don’t know exactly what race I am so they spill the beans. Almost all of my white friends have made a racist comment about Blacks/Hispanics. The comments I hear from the minorities are, “We know they hate us so we hate them back”. So, I’ve seen more racism from whites than any other group in Ga. I’m still sure there are some kind, wonderful ppl in Ga.It’s unbelievable and kind of sad too. Wasting our time on issues that aren’t important.

I hear ya new2georgia. Definitely truth to that. Very sad, but its everywhere not just here. There is a very ugly side to this state, I wont deny that.

im from Savannah,Ga and this is not a racist town.We have a African American Mayor and have had one for years now.You also never hear of racial unrest in our community.Im so damn tired of everybody from television on down to regular people assuming people from the south are racist inbred fools.I am college educated, own my own business and befriend and embrace people of every race, faith, gender and sexual orientation and i dont appreciate being lumped into to any category by people who have no idea what they are talking about

Choices

Racism is an ugly stain on America and the current political climate has brought out a lot of the hatred and bigotry that has been suppressed and undercover for years. That being said, racism is evident on both ends of the spectrum and until we can embrace each other and love one another despite our differences it’s going to continue. It’s sad that we can’t have a difference of opinion about something trivial like Stephanie Edwards without racism finding it’s ugly way into the picture.

Now about Miss Edwards all I have to say is this. Life is about choices. She just happened to make the wrong one when she tripped up and fell into a stereotype by engaging in a physical altercation with another woman over a man. It’s never worth it. I can only hope that she doesn’t fall into anymore behavior that can be classified as stereotypical. It sounds to me like Miss Edwards needs to grow up and realize that life is not the high school gymnasium. Just a thought Stephanie… If someone is making harassing phone calls make the CHOICE to place a phone call of your own to the local police. Then ma’am… change your number.
