Miley Cyrus mentors the top 11; Joe Jonas is back to perform Wednesday

miley-cyrus_0

I know most of you are already doubled over in pain and possibly gagging from the news in the headline above but yes, Miley Cyrus is the mentor for the top 11.

I’m sure Crystal Bowersox will learn oodles from Miley, eh? And faint when she sees her! Seriously, Miley has had a successful teen career so far with No. 1 albums, a few hit singles (”Party in the USA,” “The Climb”), movies and big-time TV show on Disney “Hannah Montana.” For a 17 year old, she’s had a pretty impressive run so far.

But can she mentor? I have no clue. Perhaps she can teach them about stagecraft because a lot of them clearly are not yet up to speed on that front.

So even though the theme was changed from “teen idols” to Billboard No. 1’s, the concept of teen idols remains because on Wednesday, the Disney dynamos Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato will be performing.

This is clearly a desperate attempt to draw back the teens and 18-34 year olds that have been leaving the show in droves the past couple of years.

And before Miley, has anyone even remotely as young as she been a mentor?

—> TV Guide has killed off “Idol Tonight” after four seasons. And as we know, Kimberly Caldwell is off doing her music career.

i can not believe this. I was busy preparing and completing my 3nd half on Sunday so this is my first chanc to see the AI news. I can not imagine she will be a mentor. Unbelievable, she still needs a mentor. I guess they know the old fogys (sp) will be around regardless and they need to capture the youngins’. Neither the mentoring nor the guest performances excite me. would love to know what the judges really think about this.

Miley is coming to be mentored and learn from the Idols. That has to be it right?

Miley’s career success fills me with a feeling of dread. It makes me feel like our children are stupid. See what happens when you cut out the Arts from schooling?

Hey, you guys remember how, every once in a while, we would joke that one day Idol would probably get Miley Cyrus to be a mentor? Then we’d all laugh because the very idea of that is like trying to divide by zero.

Well guess what? The producers of Idol just figured out how to divide by zero!

Oh and Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato are the square root of pi… or pie… or maybe it’s just cheesecake.

MILEY CYRUS??????? MENTORING?????????? Isn’t she frickin 17??????? How in heaven’s name can she mentor ANYBODY???????? The only worse choice for mentoring would be Taylor Swift. The Idols(even this group) would have to teach her how to sing first!!!!!!

Courtney: jealous of Miley? That’s just stupy! I don’t mind her singing, and acting, or making lots of money: it’s the American way. However, acting as a mentor to people who have more musical experience than she does? Why that’s as dumb as having the government fining us for not paying for health insurance! I just made that last bit up because that’s so absurd that it would never happen.

Oh I also like how you assume that there are “Lot of adults on here” considering that an people are not adults until they are 26 now that is not a safe assumption.

So we thought the train wreck was gone when they switched themes. Little did we know that the train wreck was still on…Big Time!

I don’t mind Miley’s success. She’s a Disney-manufactured teen sensation. There’ve been tons of them over the last 50 years starting with Annette.

I just don’t understand how she is mentor material. For one thing, have you ever listened to her talk? She talks so fast and in that oddly mechanical sounding voice, that I’m not sure very many Idols will be able to understand her.

I’ve been speculating on how we got saddled with Miley as a mentor. The scenario I have come up with seems to fit…feel free to shoot all the holes in it that y’all can find.

Idol wants to attack a more youthful audience….this we know for sure. So they pick a mentor(Miley) then they pick a theme to go with the mentor(and let’s not leave out Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato as guest performers) Teen Idols. Now where did all this go wrong? My guess is that none of the Idols picked a song from this decade. That most teen idol songs from THIS decade are virtually unknown to most of the top 11. Our 2 youngest singers, Aaron and Katie, both seem to appreciate music from another time period. Katie is strictly pre-80’s while Aaron is a little bit more up-to-date.

My guess is that the songs picked were going to amuse an audience of an age a bit older than they were hoping for.

So back to the Billboard 100 and # 1 songs.

Wow. just what the contestants need. Somebody 17yrs old giving them pointers. I wonder is she going to tell them that having a Famous dad already in show biz..helps a smidgen. Oh my golly, The undisputed QUEEN OF ALL STARS, MILEY CYRUS Will SHARE her YEARS of experience. My god I have never heard of something so funny in my life..I just don’t think any of us are worthy to watch such a Mega Star share her vast experience. Happy Tuesday, y’all! Well, I guess I’m getting my Train Wreck Idol this week after all?

I’m not really jealous of Miley, she’s done well, but come on. She’s a better actress than she is a singer… My thing is that she’s younger than all but, what, two contestants? Per dictionary.com, a mentor is: “1. a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. 2. an influential senior sponsor or supporter” Miley? I think not.

D, I think your theory does make a lot of sense. I just think it’s lame…Teen Idol would have been a fun, tongue-in-cheek theme. Idol seems to be missing the FUN this year. Or maybe that’s just me? Perhaps this is the reason why I enjoy coveritlive so much…

Miley’s huge, has a lot of fans and has recorded some big selling hit. Her dad was huge, she has TV, Movie, Music experience. She will have a lot of good advise, watch and see.

I can’t see how you can complain about Miley being a mentor then not complain about Ellen being a judge. She has done nothing to warrant being a judge and now it showing, how long are they going to keep her on. So many wanted Ellen to do well but even they say she’s blown it, is terrible.

Negativo

March 23rd, 2010
9:25 am

My problem with this is that Miley as a mentor is that she’s a 17 year old child still, and has no adult experiences to offer these performers. She has been a tween star, nothing more, and has yet to prove that she can or will be able to make the transition to adult pop star. It’s not so easy making that leap, and until Miley can successfully do it she will remain Hannah Montana, tween TV/Pop star and nothing more.

This is not about Miley’s talent, because even if she were better vocally than Whitney, Aretha, Celine, Mariah, Kelly, Ella Fitzgerald, Linda Rondstadt and Donna Summer combined she’s stil just effectively a child star who is hoping to be a successful adult recording artist just like the Idol contestants.

This move just reeks of desperation by the producers of AI.

You were right the first time, D. “attack a more youthful audience” is exactly the point of this week’s Idol baby-fication. And your speculation on “what went wrong” … I agree absolutely. With Miley, Usher and who knows what other “mentors” looming, this season Idol is grasping at straws to get “kids” (teenagers spending their parents’ money) to watch. But “Kids” don’t watch TV at 8 p.m. If they’re not doing their homework or hanging out with friends, or participating in sports, they’re playing with their computers. Watching TV? So not hot.

Tis is just for Shakey since they love Billy ray Cyrus so much.

Billy Ray has had 8 top 10 Billboard singles, including one #1 – Achy breaky Heart
He has sold over 50 Million albums, and currently holds the record for the longest stint at #1 on the Billboard top 100 and Sound scan charts for his album Some Gave All.

He has been nominated for 58 seperate awards during his career, winning 47 times. including in this is 1 CMA, 4 Billboard, 2 AMA, 2 CMT awards, and 4 seperate Grammy nominations.

Miley as “mentor”? WTF is that all about. Has the planet started spinning backwards or something???

Demi Lovato? Check back in a couple of years for assessment of her.

Wanted to join JTe$la and Mike $ but wreckedpi$$a just doesn’t work for me!
