Idol theme changed to Billboard No. 1’s from teen idols

billboard-logo-7E8FB67E7D-seeklogo.com

“American Idol” dumped its “teen idols” theme it announced last week and has gone with the more generic and open-ended Billboard No. 1’s. It’s a theme they did a few years back and had the Idols visit Fred Bronson, a Billboard magazine chart guru I’ve known for many years.

MJ confirmed with Fred that the theme was changed. I just emailed him myself to ask why. He said he didn’t know and didn’t ask. But he is a big “Idol’ fan like we are and was thrilled enough to just be back on the show.

Are you going to miss “Teen Idols” or prefer giving the Idol contestants such an open selection of songs?

I do love Billboard magazine. I grew up reading it religiously and tracking the charts. There are hundreds of No. 1 songs to choose from so this should be a good challenge when it comes to song choice.

Teen Idols was a horrible theme, so I applaud the change.

Didn’t we already have the “Random hit songs” theme for four straight weeks? Sure it’s better than a Teen Idol theme, but give us something new. Is this group really so bad that they can’t handle themes?

Wondering why every AI reporter is saying this is a change from a Teen Idol theme? I never saw any source reported for that theme except for one unidentified person who tweeted it. Then all the AI blogs started running with the story. That Teen theme was never on the official AI site, nor was it ever confirmed by Ryan or leaked by anyone else. So it may not have been changed because it was never a theme in the first place – merely a rumor all the reporters/blogs ran with without verification.

Morning!

John, you’re probably right and everyone jumped on the rumor. That’s how Idol blogs work. We talk rumors until they’ve been proven or unproven.

Anyway, I like this one better, although “Teen Idols” was a lot more broad than, say, Neil Diamond night(I hated that one). I like my themes relatively wide open. A decade theme or country songs or Broadway are all open enough to allow for a wide range of possibilities. Anyone should be able to find the right song to show off their abilities. Dolly Parton night is like the death knell for certain contestants.

Also, mj is reporting that there WILL be a mentor this week although Idol is keeping his/her identity secret…….at least, until the throngs of blogsters figure it out.

The teen idol theme was in a press release created by Fox publicists last week.

Proving to John in KC that insiders are called insiders because they get info that we don’t!

I think I actually prefer a smaller spectrum for theme nights so we can see who really is comfortable working a song into their style or making a newer arrangement of a well known song. Last season, Country week certainly didn’t seem to hurt Adam’s chances to reach the finale even though he brutally murdered Ring Of Fire!

With all of Billboard’s No. 1 hits to choose from, hopefully we aren’t looking at another sleepy ballad night! Let’s face it, we’ve had a enough real snooze-fests already this season.

Speaking of unsubstantiated rumors, didn’t we have one in an earlier thread here that said Usher was the mentor or musical guest this week?

I personally don’t care. This season is full of BOORRINNG contestants. As Highlander said, it’s been nothing but a snoozefest. A.I. could be on its last note….

I can’t understand why American Idol seems to be a racial thing.Correct me if I’m wrong.Look at this picture, and believe me, I am not predudice, because I have about ten caucasion friends that I love dearly. Now, the top ten you have 9 whites and 1black.They are just keeping Mike in the top ten for show purpose. Why was two good black singers sent home, when they song very good, for example , Paige was voted off,not by the people, but by the judges, whoever they like. Why couldn’t it have been 9 blacks and 1 white, impossible,it will never happen. If you are gonna choose, be fair. Some of those whites sounded terrible, but they are still in the competition . Di Di and Aaron sounded terrible, but they are still in, it’s just not right. It seem that blacks really don’t have a chance. I know Reuban, Fantasia, and Jordin won, but it was a struggle. When Crystal came back on the show from being sick, sounded bad, but she is still in. Paige was sick with her voice, but she had to go home, it is just not fair. You all sent Toderick home and he sang way better than many of the other singers. It’ just not fair. All this racial stuff need to cease.
