Simon Cowell engaged, low results ratings, Chikezie busted for using stolen credit card

Credit: Associated Press

Credit: Associated Press

Simon Cowell is engaged. The lucky gal? Mezhgan Hussainy, a makeup artist he’s been dating for nearly a year.

-Ellen DeGeneres made jokes today on her show about “Idol.” A sampling here.

“The mix is different in the studio so everyone sounds one way in the studio and then I go home and I listen to it….even the judges. You know, in the studio Simon has a Texas accent and he’s the sweetest guy. He’s totally hairless,” she joked.

- Alex Lambert was bleeped after Ryan Seacrest declared him safe. I’m not sure what he said but it was obviously not FCC friendly.

-Thursday night ratings were the lowest in many years: 17.8 million viewers. Of course, the show normally does worse on Thursdays but this is bad. “Idol” can chalk it up to the Olympics, which drew about 19.2 million. This was the second time “Idol” has lost to the Olympics in five tries.

- Season seven singer Chikezie, TMZ said, was busted yesterday for using a stolen credit card trying to buy cologne at Neiman Marcus.

Good stuff there. Congrats to Simon and Mezhgan.

Chikezie… LOL

All Mercedes has to do is ask! ;-)

I’m not going to worry about results show ratings. After the first set of performances, I think the general public doesn’t really care who goes home at this point. No Olympics next week so that should be a more defining ratings week.

Congrats to Simon.

Shame on Chikezie!

Alex!!!! Try to remember that their are microphones around!

I think with the Top 20 they now have… the ratings will continue to slide.

Like I said the other day: I think Paula got out just in time. Simon’s getting out one year too late.

Ellen may be like the Executive Officer of the Titanic who’s told “you’re in command now” by the captain after they’ve already hit the iceberg.

Chikezie’s life nowadays–not so “Ezie.” Oh, wait. It’s pronounced “Ezzy” but he always got annoyed when people said “Easy.”

Rickster, I actually think Simon is getting out at the right time. The way things are shaping up the show can be more about him because the talent isn’t there to distract anyone.

“Ezzy” vs. “Easy” I’m not hearing a difference. “cologne at Neiman Marcus” dude if you are going to get caught stealing go for something bigger than that. When you all read my theft headline it will be: “JTesla arrested for trying to steal the state of Rhode Island.” Cologne… that’s for chumps.

JT, at Needless-Mark Ups they have a cologne called Clive Christian that sells for $700.00!
Well, it’s probably something beyond cologne.

My comments since last blog:
Hey y’all, TGIF,

Well, I wasn’t too disappointed with the eliminations. I do think getting rid of Joe was kind a bit of a surprise. I found him to be a middle of the pack.

Honestly, I was thinking Toddrick would be a goner. He’s already stolen and “murdered,” what else are the producers going to let him get away with?

D, I agree on principle that it really is about the talent. Doesn’t have to be a Carrie-like bombshell either, but looks certainly don’t hurt in selling records, especially when they’re being “promoted” on such a visial medium. Tho, I’m not always so completely superficial…these days I am loving Ray LaMontagne.

sam, glad someone found my joke. Ha. I could listen to that allllllll day.

Rodney, “Gosh.” Are you doing your Archie impression?

Doesn’t anyone find it a bit funny that Chikezie got arrested because someone actually remembered him?

LOL!!! k&cf! I would have remembered Chikezie if only for that version of She’s a Woman which ranks right up there with Idol’s best all-time performances, IMO.

Last nights ratings can be summed up in 5 words “Women’s Olympic Figure Skating Finals”.

Just like the night’s ladie’s gymnastics are on in the Summer Olympics, nothing else stands a chance. The fact Idol actually almost beat the Olympics is really more of a testament to Idol than a damnation.

3 nights of “Idol” per week is a bit much. I get tired of it. Commercials, hoping to sap up the audience that “Idol” produces make up about 50% of the time and it gets so boring!

Ya know, I’ve always had the thought that Idol might run itself out of talent. But then I always came back with the idea that there HAD to be enough good talent out in America to keep the singer factory alive.

So, I always wondered if Idol might be better off if it wasn’t an Annual show. Maybe q 2 years, or q 4 years (a bit of Rx lingo for ya ;) ) Of course that means that we wouldn’t get to come around and enjoy the show near as often. Also that we wouldn’t get to blog quite as often. That would suck, I agree on that.

BUT, think about this. How big would American Idol be if it was a little bit more rare. Let some talent grow up for a few years then start a new season. Surely it would give us some better overall talent that what we’ve been getting. Compare it to the NBA finals, or the world series, or all the golf championships. Then take a look at what the biggest sport event is. It’s the one thats the rarest, the Super Bowl. You have one game, one time a year. I know that Idol is once a year also, but that’s not the point. I’m trying to say it might be saturating is usage or something. It might be a better show scaled back.

Now, I’m not saying I really want Idol to do this. I’m just throwing it out there as food for thought. I just don’t understand how with all the people in America, that’s the best talent they could find. I personaly know people that are better. Hell, I’m probably better then some of the contestants this year.

But, because of money this will never happen. Unless the ratings compeletly tank.

Rx – this was not the best talent “they” could find. Didn’t we hear plenty of other singers at the auditions we preferred? The singing cop, the diving girl, the Martin girl, the Golightly kid…et cetera.

Heather: it would be great if they had a show without age limits and still get Simon to be the judge. Something like, say, X-Factor… which should be firing up Fall of 2011?

Every episode of Idol makes me realize that X-Factor is the way to go. Even if all it does is produce frumpy old ladies to sing opera.

This is by far the worst season in the history of Idol. You have Andrew Garcia, Crystal Bowersox, and Casey James, and no one else. And none of them would win any other season, including Taylor Hicks’ season. I truly think that Simon picked talent that was not quite good enough to make the X Factor show much more likely to get good ratings. The best talent by far this year was Justin Williams, and he was kicked off the first day of Hollywood Week. When Simon saw him on his audition, I thought he was going to turn gay! Bet he ends up on X Factor.

RK, I think that it is odd what we have lowered our standards, as a society, as to what we expect from marriage when we discuss celebrities. Marriage is hard enough, but then you have people actively rooting for your demise. Motives are questioned, spouses are scrutinized. Atl_Finest wasn’t the first and won’t be the last to be an expert on Simon’s motives.

However… and this is key…

I will admit that my statement was really just a subtle dig at a different topic. Sure, I feel that the public is a bit too critical and judgmental when it comes to celebrity relationships, but I was frying a different fish.

Hey everyone. I was able to watch the results show yesterday. Seems like a good crowd. But I noticed something – not sure if anyone else has. It appears as if many of the contestants are smiliar to previous contestants from last year or several years ago. Just from how they look, I’m referring. I haven’t heard any sing except the eliminated ones. But I didn’t know if this was intentional, b/c if the producers are looking for someone different, why do they continue to have similar looking people from before.

For Example:

Katie — Tatiana
Andrew — Danny Gokey
Joe — Anoop
Lacy — Alison/Nikki (From season 1)
Didi — Brooke
Ashley Rodriguez — Ryan Starr (from S1)
Big Mike — Ruben
Casey — Bucky

Anyway, just a thought. I figured maybe that Adam Lambert has been so successful is because he IS so different. I need to buy his cd – amazing.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

One behalf of the whole “innocent until proven guilty” scheme of things, Chikezie says that it was his credit card, but it was the first time he used it. It was a store credit card, and they had flagged it for something inaccurate on the application. http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/26/chikezie-eze-american-idol-felony-arrest-busted-cologne-neiman-marcus-beverly-hills/. It’s not like he took someone else’s name and SSN (presuming what he’s saying is true), so calling it identity theft seems misleading to me. Fraud would be more accurate, I think.

I’m bummed that Tyler is gone. I don’t vote, but I’ve never subscribed to the “if you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to complain” philosophy, particularly with respect to TV shows. I’m going to complain, and he was actually quite hot.
