What happened to Chris Golightly?

Joe's Place video grab

Joe's Place video grab

Joe’s Place, which has been posting spoilers (and is usually impeccably accurate), seemed to get it wrong last night when Tim Uurban popped up and Chris Golightly did not get named.

But “Idol” apparently nixed him at the very last second over a contract issue. (”Idol” contestants are not allowed to be under contract.)

Golightly, who had a bit of a Justin Guarini moptop, was on stage a couple weeks ago when “Idol” made the final 24 decision, as shown above.

Golightly told Joe’s Place after the show aired last night that he had a contract with a boy band that expired in June. He received a contract release. He tried out in July since he believed he was free and clear. (I gotta give Joe’s Place credit. The blog was the first one to contact him via his Facebook page and Golightly gave Joe’s Place his number although he apparently had no clue about the Web site. Man–I could have done that!)

“Idol” wanted his contract release as proof he was not under contract. He couldn’t find it. So he was disqualified at the last second. His former manager found the release this week but it was too late.  Poor guy. I don’t recall enough about him to say whether had had a prayer at making the top 12 or not.

Joe’s Place said the manager told him that since Golightly made the top 46 but did not make the top 24, he would be ineligible for future “Idol” consideration. I think he’s wrong.  Just look at Lacey Brown. She made the top 50 last year but was cut. She got another chance. In the earlier years, “Idol” would disqualify anybody who made the top 50 or so. They realized this was unfair since most of the folks who did not make it to the top 24 will never be seen again or are quickly forgotten.

Oh that’s Chris Golightly. Glad he didn’t make it. As Simon would say “Sorry just being honest”

Thanks Rodney.

I actually liked his voice JT. I am sure that his style would have probably grated on my last nerve, just as I expect Aaron and Alex to drive me absolutely bonkers as they stick around because the tweeners are wetting thier panties over them. But, I think he deserved the shot, and I would not discount AI pulling one of thier patented “controversial” moves and making it a top 13 males.

I would tend to agree with you Mike S. It sounded like his DQ was not a big deal in the end as long as he had the proof he was free and clear of being under contract.

Hopefully I won’t be the only one drawing a complete blank on Chris Golightly. I don’t remember seeing him at all except for the audition.

Mike I’ll defer to your better judgment when it comes to his ability to sing. You seem to know that my judgment is purely superficial; it’s about time someone figured me out.

However, I would bet against AI putting him back in. They brushed him under the carpet hoping we wouldn’t notice, so unless there is a huge outcry they’d probably just like to chug along like they were planning to do. If it was planned to throw him in next week they would have milked some drama from it last night. The only reason we know about this is because Joe’s Place needed to go into damage control to protect its rep (and ego). However, good for them for getting to the bottom of it.

This is the guy that they highlighted during the audition shows….had been to many, many foster homes and they had him walk against the train tracks. They really built him up early but then never showed him again!

Rickster- you are not alone. I have no recollection of Mr. Golightly.

My early faves: Casey James, Lilly Scott and Katie Stevens (’cause she’s cute and can sing too). So, they will probably be the first three to leave; sorry about that. It is the wreckedpizza curse–just ask Lindsey Cardinale.

Wreckedpizza… ever since Lindsey Cardinale I’ve been of the opinion that the attractive women are usually the first ones to go.

Yes, JT, it does seem to be that way. I just figured that I must have cursed them by rooting for them because they are so darn attractive. Everyone on the show should be able to sing; I want a winner who is purty, also. Is that wrong?

LOl. That was why I kept my Haley Scarnato rooting under the radar. I wanted those gorgeous legs in the competition as long as possible.

Lindsey Cardinale? She did make the top 12! The best-looking contestants IMHO are Janell Wheeler, Michelle Delamor and Siobhan Magnus. Among the guys-Casey James and, um, everybody else…

…and if that’s the case, I am *NOT* rooting for that Benami chick. No, sir.

Finally caught up with all the recorded Hollywood Ins and Aufs… my favorites are Lacey Brown, Crystal “Beeswax” Bowersox, Siobhan, Casey James and Andrew Garcia.

Glad to get rid of the Mama’s Boy (Thaddeus). Doubt it was the first time Mom followed him into the men’s room. Remember well the curly-haired blond kid who was cut – what a shame. Maybe they’ll bring him back as a 13th male. In which case Angela Martin must be brought back too. If she really has been dropped for good, “Idol” and the judges ought be ashamed of themselves for treating her backstory as entertainment and a hook for most of the season so far.

Kara’s “I’m gonna remember you forever” – what good is that artificial sentiment to a girl in Angela’s horrible situation? Angela was so gracious, even as all her hopes were dashed; what a comparison to the Mama’s Boy drama.

Oh, and after seeing all those girls with their poorly painted nails, some of them bitten to the quick, I hereby declare that black nail polish is OVER.

It’s my opinion that Idol should open the door to the Golightly kid, have 13 males sing the first night and eliminate 2 guys right off the bat. It’s the only way this won’t turn into a public relations nightmare for them.

James vs. Stevens is your finale. You heard it here first. Scott top 6ish. Andrew Garcia probably deserving of finale but cut 3rd, 4th or 5th because he’s not as attractive and marketable as Stevens/James.

Siobhan Magnus – I think I might like her as a singer, and she might clean up decently, but right now those teeth, hair and clothes are really bad.

Deirdre – 2 males and 2 females get eliminated next week. So would be 3 male eliminations if he’s in.
