Here’s the latest “Idol” promo with Ellen DeGeneres:
And Broadway World is intimating that Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young are likely replacement cast members for Broadway’s “Hair.” Diana has been tweeting about a potential job coming soon. Diana’s resume is now packed with great theater gigs. This would be one of the biggest for her so far.
Carrie Underwood looked like she was singing live last night doing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl. And apparently, she’s the first one to do so in many many years. I heard her just miss the last note but otherwise, she sounded smashing.

I sent linny and email about Howard Stern, and she gave me her response to post here. Here it is:
what a TRAVESTY this would be!!!
i can honestly say that i pray this is just Stern shock-jock BS and no way Fox would ruin a family oriented show by even THINKING of hiring him …. there’s no way if he’s hired that i would continue to watch, and i firmly believe that many families would be putting AI on the “controled viewing” list for children in their homes.
i think a movement needs to VOCALLY get started by AI viewers and afficianados that any consideration of Howard Stern or ANYONE of his ilk will result not only in a boycott of the show itself, but of it’s advertisers — sure, Coke and Ford can afford to lose a few sales, but can they afford the long-term exposure to someone like Stern in their overall advertising? both like to put somewhat family-oriented faces to the American public.

While Carrie’s performance didn’t blow me away….she earned respect for me for actually singing as anyone would. I had no idea that most singers lip sync the national anthem. Geesh, there should be a legislation against that or something.

“apparently, she’s the first one to do so in many many years”
The fact that, for the most part, lip-synching songs is accepted and expected even when it comes to the most important song, I can’t fault Taylor Swift for doing so poorly at the Grammys. At least it was really her singing. I have more respect for a musician who writes their own material and sings live, even if it sounds horrid, than some of the other pop stars of today.
Yeah I know I missed my chance Friday, but that’s me fashionably late.

repeating from other blog…i have to put in my 2cents worth…. anyone beside me remember Jose Feliciano doing the SSB live? and has anyone ever heard Jimi Hendrix’ version? Maybe not the “best” traditionally but certainly imho the most MEMORABLE — and with Hendrix’ version, you could almost SEE the “bombs bursting in air”!!!

also, some sporting event, probably baseball, had a youth group do SSB live and it was not synced and it was inCREDible….the harmonies were right on, even considering the echo effect of a stadium. don’t remember what year it was, but it was good.

I will add my two cents about Stern: I hope to goodness that Fox and E19 will not even consider that defective jerk to replace Simon. I would hope they would have more respect for the contestants, viewers and everyone involved with idol to do that.
Just an update on Carla: My daughter sent me a text message this afternoon and Carla is in labor.and both babies are in distress and they are trying to stop her labor. Her due date isn’t until 4/14, so she is way to early. Prayers everybody, please.

I hope no one is kicking people out of the *public* AJC blogs because they don’t know the intricacies of “regular” commentators’ personal lives. If you think about it, I’m sure you’ll realize why that’s offensive. It’s great to have regulars, but not at the expense of a greater Atlanta community being able to talk about shows they enjoy.
And if you don’t agree, maybe you need to go offsite and have a private blog. (Please note that I’m not saying commentators can’t talk about their personal lives–just that nobody should be judged for not remembering Mercedes’ third cousin twice removed who saw Simon in person once and now is skiing in Hawaii, and *certainly* no one should be discouraged from posting for that reason!)

Dear “NGTUMUN” … how very brave of you! how very adult, that you feel you need to hide your “true” self to speak a criticism! I believe that SwimFan had already shown their lack of INTEREST and was being sarcastic. (see the 7:39 post prior to the 7:42 post) and thus the negative reaction to not knowing who Carla is. I do agree, people should not be “run off” because they don’t know the regulars; your bold post, however, shows your own ignorance because Carla has been a topic of conversation off and on since the Atlanta auditions…albeit covertly, as it were, since Nana was unable to tell us her name until she withdrew from the competition due to her pregnancy. In any event, knowledge of WHO Carla is doesn’t really matter — Nana was asking for prayer for a very serious condition, and regardless of WHO she is, it’s a worthy request — even if we’d never heard of Carla or Nana herself before today. Your sarcastic and seethingly vituperative comment is equally uncalled for, imho. You could have said the same thing without the sarcasm, and believe me, I’m the … well not queen, but perhaps a highly placed princess at the least … of sarcasm, and sometimes even **I** have to know when to bite my virtual tongue!
Mercedes …MWAH… for defending Nana *grin*. No one was discouraged from posting because they didn’t know Nana, Mercedes was just defending a blogfriend.
besides, SF seems to think the show is boring, so why are they reading … and commenting on … an American Idol blog in the first place. **THAT** i will never understand. If you don’t LIKE something, why on God’s Green (or at the moment, white in many places, and muddy in others) Earth would you seek out a blog on that show and take the time not only to read but to comment on that blog!!! People berate AIers for liking the show, for commenting on the contestants and related subjects, calling us stupid, idiots, lamebrains, and other more ahhhhhhh colorful, shall we say, things, and yet….. and YET…. they themselves take the time to comment. Sorta gets you right **here** (fist over heart) you know?
So. Sorry you don’t feel you can post in your own name, my ‘friend’ … some of us may guess who you are, and others may wonder…. it’s not really important except that you might want to do some self-assessing to find out WHY you felt uncomfortable or unable to just be yourself!
Bless your heart. And SwimFan’s too, while we’re at it. Have a nice day.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. For the record, this actually is my usual name. The handle is a joke. I’m not a regular poster, but I am a regular lurker… and plenty of people watch shows they don’t enjoy for various reasons. I love to hate Donald Trump, for example, and watch The Apprentice because my DH enjoys it.
Swimfan wasn’t attacking Nana (and for the record, neither am I). If Swimfan *had* been attacking Nana, then Mercedes’ response might’ve been appropriate. There’s no need to defend someone who isn’t being attacked. Mercedes said, and very plainly, that if a reader doesn’t know who Carla is, then that person should just find another blog. I find that offensive and stand by finding it offensive.

NGTUMUN who is being kicked out? There has been nothing offensive, maybe you are a bit over sensitive. No one is expected to know or even show interest in the private lives of others. Of course if you are someone who can’t use your usual name then you should know that already. Also you should know that we have a true “regular” who likes to post under a bunch of different names, it’s their style, but they haven’t been kicked out of the *public* AJC blog.
Interesting that you use *public*, I’ve read that one before LOL I keep waiting for something new but year after year it’s the same stuff. “Comedy” followed by condemnation when we don’t laugh… yawn month after month during the Idol season we get the same thing. I guess I need to wait for the performance shows when a truly refreshing change of pace like Offbeat or someone like her shows up and throws us a true curve ball.

JTesla, Mercedes wrote, and I quote, “If you don’t know who Carla is, SwimFan, please check out other, less demanding blogs!”
That to me is clearly an instance of a regular poster “gently” suggesting that someone who asks a question–and not a question about the show but a question about a topic of conversation on the blog–should find somewhere else to hang. “Public” to me means “available to the general populace,” and I believe this blog qualifies.
It’s lovely that you defend your regulars, but I hope you all recognize that it adds to the insular feel of this blog; that is, you aren’t welcoming to newcomers.

NGTUMUN, since Swimfan has the same “voice” as the regular that I already alluded to, see their first post, I don’t think the welcome wagon needs to be rolled out (might be someone different, but I don’t care). Also, “Who is Carla?” will get a friendly response calling us “bozos” just a few words later gets the not so friendly response. In real life, strange as it may sound, I gently suggest people go elsewhere when they are rude, so it’s not just a blog thing.
So once again comedy is followed by an attempt at drama. Since it’s the same pattern I noticed and outlined a few times last year you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t spell it out again.
The internet can be a harsh place, we are a whole lot nicer here then most places. Trust me this place is downright tame, and for the most part we tend to act like we would in person. Which is an odd thing to find on the internet.

I would not assume that a newcomer is someone you already know even if s/he “sounds like” them. Tone isn’t apparent in a text post. I don’t know what you’re talking about with comedy followed by drama; I didn’t see anything particularly humorous about SF’s OP, and I’m not SF. I’m not attempting “drama.” I’m attempting to say that it’s inappropriate to suggest to newcomers that they don’t have a right to be here because they don’t know the personal lives of the regulars. That’s it, end of story.
Furthermore, inviting someone to go elsewhere because s/he is rude seems perfectly acceptable. Inviting someone to go elsewhere because s/he doesn’t know the personal lives of regular posters *isn’t*, and Mercedes didn’t say “Hey, that was rude, go away.” She said “Hey, if you don’t know who Carla is, find some other blog.”
I honestly don’t understand why this is difficult. You see, SF isn’t the only person who reads the responses to the blog. If other people–lurkers like me, who rarely post–would think about posting and then read the reaction to a simple question that non-regulars absolutely would have no reason to know–then be assured they’ll stay lurkers or, yes, find a friendlier blog.

NGTUMUN, we’re going to have to, I don’t know “agree to disagree?” I see people being welcomed here all the time. During the live blogging, also I see people being welcomed when they disagree with the majority (I think it was Sam last week) I see us as being very welcoming.
If someone wants kindness, then show kindness to others. It really is a basic concept, but nitpicking where the rudeness was directed is silly. Rudeness begets rudeness. SF was rude, do we really need to be motherly in our approach and try to correct SF at the point of rudeness? Nah that’s rude in and of itself.

I think I’m getting the sense of what happened–folks think they know that SF is one of their usual trolls. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but I hope most people wouldn’t get that treatment even if they used the word “bozos”–and I still say it’s unacceptable to post that someone needs to go elsewhere if they don’t know the personal lives of regulars. I know I sound like a broken record here… I suppose cliques are a hot button for me, and again… you never know who might be reading and thinking about posting and have no idea that you’re responding to a “regular” troll.

So come on back, keep us honest, throw out some Idol opinions and the occasional political opinion too and you’ll see that we really are pretty nice. OMG, I’m so happy! The “chat” between Usual Name(I will refer to you as that since I hate typing a series of letters)and JT ended with, I hope, a new member of our blog community. To me, every lurker who speaks up, argues, opinion-ates, or just says hello everyday is a welcome addition. To be honest, I get what Usual Name was saying. Asking someone to leave is not our usual style, nor should it be(and just to clarify, we HAVE asked people to leave but only after we have been insulted and berated on a fairly regular basis) We’ve been called much worse than “bozos” in the past and I’m sure we’ll be called much worse in the future.

IMO, if ANY chat gets people talking, no matter how annoying, it’s ok. I didn’t see any “attack” going on but that’s from my perspective. Others could have interpreted it a whole different way. Posting with no tone or facial expression often leads to misunderstanding. The only word I objected to in the whole discussion was “bozo”. And that hardly qualifies as nasty.

Good mornin’ y’all,
First off, I somewhat resent the comment that lurkers/newbies are not welcomed. I’ve been hanging around this blog since before the time of “The Great Split” and I’m not gonna rehash all that. I don’t mean to speak for anyone else, but in my opinion, anyone who contributes and adds something to the discussion is more than welcome. You can agree with us, tell us why we’re wrong, etc. That is the point of this blog. That said, some of us hang around here often enough that we share certain aspects of our lives. The example about Carla actually *relates* to Idol. Recap: She auditioned and made it to Hollywood (how exciting is that?!) before finding out about her pregnancy and withdrawing. Not to mention, that Nana is an esteemed member of this blog community. Do not mess with Nana, you get us all! (And that’s all I’m going to say about that…)
Now, on to more important things: NANA! CONGRATS on the new additions. Robert and Robin have been added to the prayer list. Definitely keep us posted on ” our little blog babies.” (D, that was too cute, had to borrow).
PS. “We’re going to Hollywood, y’all!” Well, that…and LOST! (I caught up.

Good morning! Well, JT, you certainly gave us something to read about this morning. Quite interesting. And, I will add my “welcome” to NU and SF. I started out as a lurker and occasional poster, when eventually one of the regulars–linny, in particular–caught that I had been here before and gave me a hearty welcome. That welcome was joined by Dierdre and others, and that’s the way most of us became “regulars.” So, despite opinions to the contrary, I do have a life, and I choose to live it with Idol and this blog as part of it.

Two old ladies were outside their nursing home, having a smoke when it started to rain. One of the ladies pulled out a condom, cut off the end, put it over her cigarette and continued smoking.
Lady 1: What’s that?
Lady 2: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn’t get wet.
Lady 1: Where did you get it?
Lady 2: You can get them at any drugstore.
The next day … Lady 1 hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms. The guy looks at her kind of kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but politely asks what brand she prefers.
Lady 1: It doesn’t matter as long as it fits a Camel.

On his radio show yesterday, Howard Stern said he’s in at Idol , if the price is right:”They’ll have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough”..
On air he said he would tase Ellen if she does “that dumb dance” and “smack Randy Jackson’s belly every time he opens his dopey mouth.”
More pearls:
“For $100 million a year, to judge a karaoke contest? Ok. Why not?”
“Name a person who could bring more excitement to that show than me”.
“First of all, I would have straightened out that Adam Lambert. The kid got more publicity than everyone and he (effed) up. I wouldn’t even put through that good-looking kid who won, that Kris Allen. He never would have been through.”
“Fantasia… Honey, you look like you stepped out of a Haitian earthquake.”
This is not the guy I want in Simon’s seat!

He’s going to milk it for all that it is worth. It is just giving him and Idol publicity. $100 million, that will come in handy when he re-ups his contract with Sirus.

Ryan is totally embracing Ellen, at least publicly. She’s his guest right now (here on Columbia, SC radio) on his On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

Well, the blog took an interesting turn last night.
For the record, I didn’t know who Carla was either. I’m probably an off and on blogger though and don’t usually come around much during the off season that much. So that could explain that. I do however know about Nana’s father. I hope he and your new grandchildren do well. So if my math is correct, Carla was about 28-29 weeks? If so, then you should be ok as that is above the danger zone for the infant usually surviving.
I thought the usual name poster made excellent and valid points for what it’s worth.
Protip: Sarcasim doesn’t show up well in text.

Wait, someone actually listens to Ryan Seacrest’s radio program? How weird is that.
I don’t buy any of the Ellen vs. Simon garbage. Idol milked the Simon-Paula love affair concept and now they will milk all the drama they can with Ellen being set up as the anti-Simon crusader. It benefits all parties. Ellen gets more viewers to see what she says about Simon on her talk show, Idol gets more viewers to see what they might say to each other. The talent gets pushed to the side, Ryan takes over the world.

JT, yep. I have his show on every morning in my office. I don’t think there is any real battle going on, but she is going to stand her ground about rudeness. Anyone expecting fireworks will be disappointed, IMO.

By the way welcome back RxDawg (I’m not sure I said anything before my memory is going). Since there are very few who stick around during the off season you can consider yourself more on than off. You can pick up your unitard anytime.

What the deal wit ” your’e welcome to be here”. Thats just crazy. Why don’t they ever have a black man or woman on Bachelor? I watch that show but it needs to be more diverse in its cast. There’s very few blacks or asians ever on the show unless it’s a token. At least they should cast bachelors who are open to other relationships than blonde-hair/ blue eyes.
As for American Idol, I still like the black girl who sang country. She one of my top 12.
