What is Simon Fuller thinking? The New York Post reports that the show has talked with Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell.
I like Howard Stern, have been listening to him since I was a teen-ager. But really? I mean, he’s polarizing in a way that isn’t necessarily endearing. He would clash with the other judges and be suitably nasty but his trademark crass nastiness, I can’t imagine, would sit so well in Middle America.
Stern, as MJ speculated may simply be using this as leverage with Sirius/XM. His monstrous deal with them is up at the end of the year.
-And that “Italian” girl on “Idol” seemed like a fake from the get go. “Nicci Nix” wasn’t even that good. TMZ found out she’s a reality show vet, having been on at least four other shows. She’s been on “Fear Factor,” “Making the Band,” “Next” and “Date My Mom.”
-Carrie fans: here she is on the cover of Cosmo:

Woh, interesting about the Italian girl. She was cute, but I didn’t really see her going far in the competition.
Wasn’t it Howard Stern that supported voting for the worst to try and sabatoge the Idol show and their results? I’m pretty sure they wont hire Stern. Not that I dislike Stern though, I can appreciate Radio Show hosts that push the envelope. His movie was a great movie by the way. One of the better comedies I’ve seen.

There is no way that the Italian girl flew from Florence to Denver twice, for both auditions.

Deirdre – believe me that I didn’t take your comment the wrong way. I just haven’t been back here due to cleaning the stove and frig. You know, the jobs that no one likes to do, but need to be done.
In any case, we have a new thread and hopefully, that topic is over. RoHo knows how to please his bloggers and it shows. Thank you for the video and the pix of Carrie. She is one beautiful lady, and even though I’m female, I think she is HOT!!!!! From the first time I saw her on the auditions, I liked her and even more. If she comes back to the Atlanta area anytime soon, I plan on going to see her.
I still can’t picture that 19 E would even consider Stern as a replacement for Simon. Rumors do run rampant. I think whomever is picked, there will be those who will cry “I’ll never watch idol again” like they did when Paula was replaced with Ellen. I do hope that the person that is chosen will be someone that is liked and respected in the music field. I would like to see Lionel Richey fill the spot. I think he would be very good at it and would do a great job, AND he does know music.
Gotta run for now. Have an appointment with H&R block. Hopefully, we will have a good return.

RK has obviously never listened to The Stern Show. He’s an observer of pop culture and probably the best interviewer alive; many of his best moments have nothing to do with the “shock jock” label placed on him by the media. Like the article says, I doubt this is anything more than rumor, but Stern would bring in millions of viewers and be funny.

As far as Carrie Underwood goes…thanks for the video…nice! As far as Howard Stern, he’s really not the evil, nasty Howard that he was maybe 20 years ago. It’s the other guys around him on his show. However, I agree that it would not sit well with parents because of his perception over the years and families/kids make such a huge percentage of the Idol viewers now. No way would they allow him on the show.

I am a huge fan of this show, but have been losing interest. I used to watch every episode multiple times. Now it’s torture to watch the bad auditions. Bringing in Howard Stern to replace the best judge would be what makes me tune out. Not a fake I’ll tune out altogether in some kind of protest move. Just a this isn’t worth viewing anymore tune-out where I’d probably watch the last episode or two to see the best talent and nothing else.

Howard Stern would be the kiss of death to American Idol! You’re talking about one of the most divisive indivduals on the airwaves today. He is crude and vulgar. His demographics are 18 to 30 year old single males. Not, Preteen, tweens, or women.
ugaaccountant

gadawg – i’m in his target demographic and he is the opposite of what I want to see hired. How about instead of a shock jock radio host who’s far past his prime and has no musical background they instead hire an actual musician or executive that knows the craft? For the kind of ratings they get, nobody is out of their price range.

Imno, I HAVE watched and to put him on Idol would destroy the show. It will lose its entire family base. He’s a trash talking idiot…keep him on at adult times on adult stations for those that go for his style of disgusting humor. Not on a show that’s trying to stay a “family show.”

Howard will the death of Idol. He is disgusting and not even funny any more. I listened to him a few times while living in NYC in the ’80s, but stopped because he was so incredibly misogonistic and degrading to his women guests. Yes, they wanted to be there, but come on! The only people he appeals to are immature boys. Not exactly Idol’s core audience.

Linny…the people on the plane this time were not all the people on the plane the first time. Desmond was not on the plane, Shannon WAS on the plane. Is this another version of what could have happened? Are we stepping into Fringe territory with the idea of alternate worlds? Are they all in 2 different places at the same time? Did Juliet mean “It worked” in the way we think it might have worked? So many questions….so little time!

Yep, these people have no idea who the Howard Stern of today is…he’s not some disgusting animal like people try to make him out to be. He’s almost 60 years old now and a father of 3 girls and has obviously become a softy to anyone that has listened to his shows in the last 10 years. Like lmno said, he would never do the show and doesn’t need to…he just made $250 MILLION in 5 years at Sirius radio people and prefers the airwaves over the cameras these days.

Howard is a bore now. Can’t believe people actually still listen to him, it’s boring banter from Stern accompanied by ass kissing from his other mics. Just a bore. He makes a lot of money being a name, and for being someone who used to do something. Being “shocking” is the only real reason people tuned in. Now they just refuse to admit he’s fallen and using things like this and being friendly to Rosie when he used to abuse her and his cries about his contract for media attention. What a bore these days.

Linny, great to read your ports again… a cubit is a measurement, in the English system 18 inches.
It’s been used since time immemorial, by many early peoples, including the Babylonians, Hebrews and Egyptians. It was based on the length of the forearm from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow. I guess the ancient people were of different build, since the royal cubit of the ancient Egyptians was 21 inches, the ancient Romans that of 17.5 inches, while the Hebrew cubit was 17.58 inches.

Congrats to the Saints. Good game last night. It’s always nice to watch 2 pretty evenly matched teams battle it out. And congrats to Carrie for singing what I think was the first live rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl we’ve heard in years. while her last note was iffy, it was beautifully done.
I was up at 2am this morning picking up my future d-i-l(in town for wedding meetings)because she had blown a tire about 5 miles from my house(where she is staying). Hmm, here is an interesting off topic. What’s the best national anthem you’ve ever seen performed?
Mine is easy, it was sung by the Dixie Chicks before a super bowl. I don’t remeber what year, but it feels like it was about 10 years ago or so. Absolutely amazing. Great harmonies and wonderful singing. It was truly pro.
2nd place: I was at a huge college party at the begining of my freshman year. We walked into this appartment and this girl just stood up on the coffee table in the living room and belted out the national anthem. It was amazing and stopped everyone in the room.

Just got back from getting help with the car. Nice mechanic who works across the street from where we left it last night. The tire is destroyed but he’s ordering a new one and everything should be back to normal by the afternoon.
It’s really hard to beat Whitney Houston’s version of the NA. Yes, it was lip-synch’ed but that didn’t make it any less inspiring.
I also loved Adam Lambert’s version at a Naval Air Station in CA.
And when the NA was sung at Shea Stadium for the first time after 9/11. It may not have been the best vocally but it was the best emotional release.

D, on a similar note. The best superbowl halftime show I rember was U2’s after 9/11. They played “Where The Streets Have No Name”. They had a huge screen behind them and showed all the names of those that lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks. It was very impressive.

RE: the National Anthem- “The Star Spangled Banner” is an awesome number (when sung correctly and with respect), however, I have never understood why “America The Beautiful” isn’t our NA. Seems that would be the more logical choice.

First time I’ve ever seen Carrie sing off key. She missed more notes in that one song than she did in her entire Idol run. Started well enough, but around the midpoint started to get shaky and never really found her voice again.
Deirdre
February 8th, 2010
10:53 am
The big trouble with singing live in a stadium is the sound echoing and delaying. Carrie was hearing herself, then hearing the delay of what she was singing. Few people could stay on key with that problem. That’s why lip-syncing the NA has become the standard during major games.
If Carrie can’t keep track, then very few singers could either.

With you there, D., about Adam Lambert’s “Banner”, and you, WP, about “America the Beautiful”. The words of “America” is what America is all about, imho, plus everybody can sing it. Not so with the “Banner”. I mean, if even Carrie has problems hitting the right notes…

i’ll go to the new blog in a sec, but i have to put in my 2cents worth…. anyone beside me remember Jose Feliciano doing the SSB live? and has anyone ever heard Jimi Hendrix’ version? Maybe not the “best” traditionally but certainly imho the most MEMORABLE — and with Hendrix’ version, you could almost SEE the “bombs bursting in air”!!!
