Carrie Underwood singing Super Bowl National Anthem, Quincy Jones doing a ‘We are the World’ for Haiti may include Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson is one of the names included in a list of people who may be involved in a “We are the World”-type song for Haiti spearheaded by Quincy Jones.

Two other names leaked out with Atlanta ties: Justin Bieber and Sugarland.

-And I’m sure this is exaggerated but gossip sites are working the Ellen hates Simon angle. Here’s another one from radaronline.com

“There’s two camps on the show this season,” said an Idol insider. “It’s a lot more tense than previous seasons. It seems as if Ellen has decided to try to take control since Simon is on his way out and that’s created problems.”

Joining the likes of Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson in 2009 and Jordin Sparks in 2008, Carrie Underwood will have the honors this year in Miami for the faceoff between the Saints and the Colts.

EW was sweet enough to count how many words Joe Jonas uttered on last night’s Idol episode, which drew about 24.7 million viewers (up a bit from Tuesday but down about 8% from the same episode a year ago.).

The man said a whopping 40 words. Yes. 40. He was obviously completely utterly useless.

- – Part-time Atlantan Elton John is one of 3,000 names of possible Simon replacements. Can’t see that one working out but it’s no crazier than the hideous Perez Hilton.

Drama to pump up Idol viewership? No they would never do that! We are the world type song? Meh

Thanks Rodney. I like the word count, but sometimes “yeah” says it all.

Carrie Underwood singing the National Anthem. Well, we know for sure all the nations heterosexual males will be standing at attention.

That’s neat about J-Hud’s involvement in the Haiti relief single. Funny how the NFL seems to love the Idols. Kelly and Carrie have done Cowboys Thanksgiving games, Kris and Jordin just did the AFC/NFC (can’t recall which one did which, sorry!) Championships and now Carrie in the Super Bowl.

Oy! If Perez is the new Idol judge, I’m gonna have to finally break up with the show…

Since we moved: Mike, that’s awesome. Congrats! Not much of a sci-fi person, but you have me intrigued.

Cowo, we do talk about Idol all the time…but eventually we do run out of things we can say without repeating ourselves. I mean, there’s only so many ways I can say how much I loooooove Kelly Clarkson. But you know, if that suffices as Idol talk, I’m more than happy to keep telling everyone.

Good for Carrie (and for us guys). She will join the ranks of Whitney, JHud and Jordin – performers who can actually hit all the notes in the song!

Thought NPH did a great job last night, thought Joe Jonas could have been replaced with a wax figure and we wouldn’t have known the difference! Thought Avril and Katy were okay on Tuesday’s show. They were both having fun while there and Katy had some spunk – not to mention looking hot.

I think after the first few delusional ’singers’, I’d have a hard time not laughing or being abrupt or sarcastic with them, too! Still believe more and more of these people know damn well they can’t sing but figure they’ll get a shot at TV time (and the producers validate that line of thought!).

I have given my opinion to cowo on the previous blog.

Congrats to Carrie singing at the Super Bowl. That is pretty HUGE exposure.

I’m sure Joe Jonas said more than 40 words. Let’s just say he was edited down to 40. Unless he really is the dullest human being on earth.

As for Simon and Ellen….I’m sure they’ll work it out.

I posted this on the prior thread, but wanted to re-post so cowo would see it:

I am going to add my two cents worth, which I do not usually do on this subject. I am probably more left-wing than just about anyone on this blog regularly, but I defend my blog mates’ right to their opinions and their right to state them and discuss them and to criticize whomever they wish. It is a much more interesting world for me that way.

Tweet tweet! I already sort of stated my point in the last thread, but of course I need to be a bit more serious. I’m not right-wing, but then I’m also not left-wing. I’m neither Republican nor Democrat. Does the blog sometimes swing to the right? Sure, but I have just as much ability to swing it the direction that I want it to go. Usually I use my swinging power to advocate pictures of hot chicks, but hey if you want to swing it someplace just tug the rope.

Thank goodness!

In case you hadn’t figured it out already, I tend toward the conservative fiscally and on world politics. I’m a bit more centrist on social issues. I think I’m Libertarian if you want a label. I’ve voted both ways in Presidential elections(not at the same time, of course). The older I get the more disgusted I am with politics in general and politicians specifically. I believed in George W’s sincerity more than his policies. I haven’t, truly, found anything to believe in with the current administration. I hope for the best but I think I’d better prepare for the worst.

I believe in equal rights for every living human being on this planet but that doesn’t mean I think we’ll all end up equal in the end. We’re too different, with different skills, different mind sets, different cultures. Therefore, I believe that equal does not mean “the same” . I am not, nor will I ever be, equal to a pro football player. I will never make as much money as he does. I will never be as famous as he is. Nor should I. Yet he and I should be treated as the same by our gov’t. Too many people think “equal” means I should have what you have. That’s NOT what it means.

I don’t think we’ve achieved equality yet. I think one party is reluctant to go there lest it change the hierarchy and I think the other party works hard to prevent it from happening lest it loses them votes.

Yeah…I tend to be cynical, too. And talkative! Sorry!

JTesla

Deirdre talkative? You know there is a certain talkative person that I miss having around here!

I am both a big L Libertarian and a little l libertarian, a card carrying member of the party (hence the big L). Perhaps it is my libertarian ideals that keep me from being overly political, or maybe it’s just that I’m such a nice guy and don’t like confrontation.

“And BTW…the “Queen” part is NOT “self-proclaimed”.” – D, 3:54pm

Sam, I think I speak for most of the regulars on the blog when I say, for us (”For me, for you…”) ‘Queen’ D is a term of endearment. (Editor’s Note: Terribly sappy, chick-flick, that!) We took what someone tried to use as a negative and turned it into a positive – because we have a sense of humor, of whimsy, …of temporary insanity, even!

Ergo, Court Jester Rickster, Lady Linny, Lady Heather, etc.

And I haven’t said this before but I guess JT would be Lord Chancellor except I think he’d view it as a demotion!! :-)

Well, spoken, Queen D.! Now, for some politics AND Idol…

In her NYT review of Andrew Young’s “The Politician An Insider’s Account of John Edward’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down”, Janet Maslin writes:

“Mr. Young describes how he, his wife Cheri, his children and Mr. Edward’s pregnant girlfriend, Rielle Hunter, all moved in together (’the kids awakened to find a strange lady in the house’) while Mr. Young allowed himself to be falsely named as the baby’s father-to-be. The Youngs’ ‘unnervingly and unreal misadventure’ is as strange as science fiction. The people in this uneasy household gathered each week to watch ‘American Idol’ together without noticing that their own drama could out-soap anything television had to offer.”

Wonder if they were Team Adam or Team Kris?

Morning!

Idol’s Top 12 and Top 11 show will be 2 hours long. Apparently, instead of limiting the judges to 1 minute each, Idol chooses to let them babble. Either that or Ellen will do a monologue at the beginning of each show. Just kidding! I hope!

Frankly, I don’t see how you can get through 11 singers and 4 opinions in less time than 2 hours so I really don’t see the problem.

D, regarding the 2 hours Top 12/11 shows…I see what you’re saying, but didn’t they already do that when it was three judges? And I don’t see Ellen doing a monologue, but maybe dancing down the aisle to her seat. :)

Morning!

So far this season the audition shows have been a bit of a let down for me. Too many irrelevant back stories and way too many commercials (again, thank God for DVR!). I’m looking forward to Hollywood week when we can see all the contestants who made it through that we never saw!

Also, I don’t believe all the gossip-TV crap about feuding between Simon and Ellen. From what I understand, they’re good friends. Just sounds like more fodder to try to drum up more interest and publicity. (Not that Idol would ever be guilty of THAT kind of thing. …Yeah, right!)

See y’all later.

I voted for Adam!

I think they HAVE done 2 hour shows before. I’m not sure what the fuss is about. I’d actually like to see them extend the hour on some of the later shows. It’s pretty obvious they’re not going to pay large amounts of cash to the judges and then tell them to shut up. I hope they will give more time to the singers this year and if that means having 90 minute shows then so be it.

Did anyone see “Live For the Moment?” I watched it, and it was really, really sad, but life-affirming. However, they made it as sappy as they could make it, which ruined it. It was sort of a “bucket list” thing, but within a limited time frame (the focus of the show had ALS).

My big concern about show length kicks in when we hit the top 5. Top 5 = 2 songs per contestant in 1 hour. 5-2-1. If they can’t do that then they fail.

Morning…more snow on the way in Ga…

Harriett, from what I’ve read about “Live for the Moment”, you couldn’t pay me money to watch it. I know today’s (reality) television is all about exploiting people for profit, but this sounds sick. Of all my friends and family members who have suffered painful, lingering deaths, there’s not a one who would have been tempted to participate in a program like “Live For the Moment”. They all DID live for the moment, but without cameras.

Sorry for the rant, I just got upset.

Meanwhile, I really enjoyed Mel Gibson, back to his old revenge tricks, in “Edge of Darkness”.

Not that I know how this happened, but on one of the earlier Idol tryouts, comments were posted about performers before they had even performed!

Harriett, I am so so sorry about your aunt. One of my neighbors, in her early 40s, 5 kids, died from ALS many years ago. If there is a worse death, I can’t think of it.

Harriett

You are right, Mercedes. It is an awful disease. My aunt died many, many years ago, but all of us remember her struggle. “Tuesdays With Morrie” chronicled the struggle of Morrie Schwartz with ALS. The tv show did much to raise awareness.

What a gloomy subject! I had a thought that maybe Nigel might come back to Idol. I know that is not going to happen, given his success with SYTYCD. He’d be an exellent replacement for Simon, IMO.

Good morning all. I agree with Mercedes. I think it is time to find new programming anyway. There are way to many reality shows out there and really it isn’t most of those that watch thems reality. I had to explain that to my tween when she watches My Super Sweet 16! What a waste of resources. The shows send the wrong message about sex, money, relationships, and the list could go on.
