Former Idols and current thoughts

By DEIRDRE

  • Jordin Sparks has announced on Twitter that she will be appearing in an episode of the FOX hit “Bones.” There are no details at the moment, but Jordin sounds pretty excited about it.
  • Tonight, George Clooney will be the host of Help For Haiti, a charitable event that many of the networks will carry. A large number of celebs have volunteered their time to perform or man phones to take donations. A few former Idols are among the volunteers. Jennifer Hudson will perform while David Archuleta and Katharine McPhee will also be volunteering, although I do not know in what capacity.
  • Speaking of Kat McPhee, a recent and somewhat snarky article on msn.com has alluded to the fact that Kat is one of the few second placers who seems to be faring better career-wise than the actual winner. For awhile, Clay was outshining Ruben, and Adam keeps the spotlight better than Kris. msn contends that the same is true of Kat. Citing Taylor’s illustrious career as Teen Angel in the roadshow of Grease, msn goes on to mention that Kat’s career has managed to stay ahead of Taylor’s on almost every level.

In other news …

This will be my last post as Rodney’s substitute. I have to say that, despite the difficulties we encountered with the nighttime posting, it has been a very positive experience for me. It has made the recovery from surgery less boring. It has opened my eyes to the difficulty I have with communicating instructions. It has made me appreciate what Rodney does for us even more than I already did.

Most of all, it has shown me the kindness and open-heartedness of my fellow bloggers. Y’all encouraged me every day. You made me smile. You made me feel proud of myself. Most importantly, you embraced a change that many would have stepped away from (sort of the “if Simon’s gone so am I” school of thinking) and made sure that I knew EVERY DAY that you appreciated my efforts.

Well, I appreciate your efforts and I always will! My sincerest thank you to everyone.

On Monday I return to being just plain ol’ Queen D. I guess I’ll have to live with that. ;-)

D, everyone knows you own this joint. Rodney’s just the talent, kinda like Simon, and like Idol will move along fine after he’s gone, this blog moves along fine even when Rodney is out canoodling with his bride. ;)

BTW, a great song is out now by Danny Gokey: http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/r-r-YO8gIRw/

Thanks Deirdre, you did great!

So Kat McPhee has done better than Taylor, that really isn’t that hard to do is it? Just about everyone from Season 5 has faired better than Taylor.

Thanks for the Gokey link, Neg. I really like his song!

Dierdre, you kept us all together, and I told Rodney that on FB this morning. You’ve been great, and thanks again!

Hey y’all,

Good to see the former Idols involved in some good work.

The MSN comparison of Kat and Taylor sounds about right, but I’d agree with JT, almost everyone has done better than Taylor and even Kat. Say hello Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Elliott…at least airplay wise.

And “in other news,” Dierdre (yes, this is “full name” worthy), you’ve done an awesome, awesome job guest blogging. Thanks for keeping the blog going as Rodney enjoyed his honeymoon. I’ve definitely enjoyed the different perspective on our lil ol’ show. :)

I’m sooooooooo looking forward to seeing all the entertainers performing and then telling us how we need to help the folks in Haiti. (If Kanye is there, is he going to say “Barack Obama hates black people” since the US relief was slow in coming?)

Are any of them donating anything other than their time? Or are they performing just so people will see them and think how wonderful they are?

One of my favorite artists – James Taylor – is giving a benefit concert. And he will personally match the amount raised by the show. Now that “for me” is putting your money where your mouth is!

Gee, your highness… when you wrote about the ’stones acting up’ – I thought you were hanging with Mick, Keith & the boys! I didn’t realize that you were ill. :-)

Hope the recovery is full & complete soon.

Very funny, Rickster! The recovery is going great, thank you!

George Clooney, Brangelina, Madonna and some other celebs have donate $1 million each . I think we can safely say that they have given their fair share. I can’t tell you what the others have given but I’m sure we’ll hear.

The blog ate my post, I’ll try again:

Rickster, just to clarify a bit, Kanye wasn’t invited because even the people in Hollywood think that he is a… well you know what he is, I know what he is, and everyone else knows what he is so I’ll just leave it at that.

Otherwise, I’ll be missing tonight’s show. Good cause, but meh.

I love that MSN gig ;)

Great job this week Queen D. I really liked Taylor on idol, but I am not impressed with much of the work he has done since then. I still do not care much for Kat.

Mercedes, and everyone else, for that matter, here is Susan Boyles excellent performance on Oprah this week. It is a song from her album, and it fits her to a “t.” http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/susan-boyle-s-oprah-performance-on-jan-19-2010/64078296B52F8445C9E964078296B52F8445C9E9

D, don’t you know we are just like all those friends and family members of AI wannabes who can’t sing a lick but are assured by those friends and family members that said wannabe is sure to be the next Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, etc. …That’s how we feel about you.

***Ducking*** ….Just kidding. You did a great job even with the technical difficulties which I’m sure RH doesn’t have to contend with! :-)

I think Kat’s limited ’success’ (with equally limited airplay) and Taylor’s ’success’ with the national touring company of “Grease” are about equal.

Katherine’s success has been moderate at best. Taylor may not be selling more records, but the Teen Angel gig seems somewhat successful to me.

And Adam may be better at being infamous, but Kris is crushing him in sales and airplay.

Checked tail end of “Gossip and snippets” to see if I’d missed something – and I had. Harriett, your stuff about Adam on Oprah, which was “awaiting moderation” – what happened? Is that poor boy being boycotted on purpose (no radio play, for instance)?

JTesla

Jenna: Kris is being crushed by Adam in terms of sales. Feel free to check the numbers for yourself. Also, anyone with a job could be called “somewhat successful” that doesn’t mean that the job is all that significant. McPhee is showing up on TV while Taylor has a bit part in a traveling musical. I’m sure he enjoys it and that it pays the bills, so let’s call it somewhat successful.

Didn’t watch the Haiti show. However, the last few times I have seen Jennifer Hudson she has really looked beautiful. Don’t know what she is doing but it is working! (Disclaimer: not that Jennifer was unattractive on Idol. She just seems to get more and more attractive as time goes by…)

Almost forgot about the Haiti show; we were catching up on old “Mentalists” and “Good Wives”,and when we remembered to check it out there was Jennifer Hudson in all her glory. Looking wonderful, in an A+ performance. I know it was “good works” for a terrible disaster, and this was not an occasion to dress up in gold and sparkles, but surely Smyrnas own, Julia Roberts, could have found something more dignified to wear than the ratty windy-day-on-a-winter-beach ensemble she had thrown together?

Morning!

I’m assuming that Rodney got in late yesterday with the weather as bad as it was. I had an inch of water in my backyard and 3 rivers running down to the street during yesterday’s storms. Will we get back to dry before the wedding?????

Lar mention Kris singing the National Anthem at last night’s game. Also, Jordin Sparks sang it for the AFC championship. I’ll see if I can find a video.

Good Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

Just got caught up on the last three threads, and I’m glad I wasn’t around. I would have said to much to a certain single mom. Spend the weekend down at my Dad’s, who by the way, is home and doing better. Got him settled with a home health nurse and that really puts me more at ease.

Deirdre, just wanted to tell you how great you were in Rodney’s absence. You did such an amazing job and I think he owes you a very nice dinner. You were an excellant choice to keep this blog going.

Thanks Nana. With the wedding just a few months away, I’m not sure I’ll have time to eat! I’m very happy to hear that your dad is home and being cared for. It really eases your mind to know that someone is on duty 24/7. I know that my life has definitely changed for the better. And so has my mom’s.

Thanks again, D. for your wonderful blog work, and the links to the two anthems. Kris sounding country? As in “the lend of the fray”? That’s dissing country stars. Still don’t think any idol has done a better version than the one Adam did on an army base last year.
