Orlando show fails to impress, as well

By DEIRDRE

The show begins with the suggestion that maybe Simon, Randy and Ryan partied just a little too much in Miami and are a bit hung over.  And it goes downhill from there.

  • Up first, Theo Glitter…um excuse me…Glinton, aka Adam Lambert to the 10th power but without the voice.  He’s definitely loud but inexpressive.
  • Seth Rollins is a very nice guy who just wants a job that pays enough to buy the things his autistic son needs.  He’s got a good voice, not a great voice but he makes it through to Hollywood.
  • Jermaine Purifoy auditioned for season 7 and was told he wasn’t ready.  Well, Jermaine honey, you’re ready now!  And the judges agree with me and send him to Hollywood.
  • Shelby Dressell is a nice little girl with a nice little voice who has a facial nerve disorder that prevents the muscles on the right side of her face from moving.  She gets a golden ticket.
  • And that’s all we saw from the first day.  Seriously!  Am I kidding?  NO!  That’s all we saw from the first day even thought 18 singers made it to Hollywood.  Most of the time was spent on Kara and Kristen Chenowith bonding……and bonding……and bonding some more.  I like Kristen Chenowith but I was extremely disappointed in her as an Idol judge.  I’m already totally disappointed in Kara so that was no big surprise.  Then, like the wind, Kristen was gone!

Day 2 began with a little more hope.  Randy made the very telling comment that just 3 judges “gives us more quality time”  Is this the first time they’ve thought this?  We’ve been on that train for over a year!

Jay Stone had a good voice so somewhere in the back of my head I’m happy he made it to Hollywood BUT…we do NOT need another beatboxer.  NO sir!

Then, quick as a wink, we see 3 girls.  Janelle Turner, Brittany Star Jones and Kasi Bedford.  All 3 can sing and all 3 make it to Hollywood.  Special note:  Brittany Star Jones can MORE than sing…that girl was great!

Cornelius Edwards might have been able to sing but I was so traumatized by the split that ripped his pants that I had trouble hearing him.  Apparently so did the judges…he will not be splitting his pants in Hollywood.

The sister act from Jersey Shore arrives…they’re ok and they both make it to Hollywood…..I seriously doubt they’ll go any farther than that.

Jared Durrell aka psycho boy sings like a lawnmower according to Kara.  To me it sounded more like a sickly bagpipe.  He is escorted in handcuffs out the door.  Needless to say, we will not be seeing him in Hollywood…at least, I hope not.

Then there is Matt Lawrence.  A sweet guy with a great voice who committed armed robbery when he was 15.  He looks truly sorry for what he did.  Some people DO get rehabilitated and I find myself hoping the young man can sing.  He can and we’ll be seeing him in Hollywood.

All in all, 31 make it out of Orlando.  This show wasn’t as bad as Chicago but it wasn’t very good either.  I find myself wishing for Hollywood Week to begin so that we don’t have to put ourselves through this anymore.  How can Boston and Atlanta have such good shows while Chicago and Orlando fail miserably?  Did they switch producers?  Did they get an amateur to edit the last 2 shows?  I’m flummoxed!

Next week we’ll travel to Los Angeles where Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne share the guest host duties.  By then Rodney will have returned and the blog will be back to normal!

My favorite tonight was I robbed a bank with a B.B gun when I was 15-Matt Lawrence.
I also liked the girl with the purple in her hair, they didn’t show her very long and I didn’t catch her name.

That is a very good summary of tonights show. Better than chicago but not by much. I noticed they haven’t come out like the last few seasons and said this is the most talented group we have ever had. If simon had any doubts about leaving I am sure the start of this season has confirmed that it is time to go.

Dierdre, the blog is normal and I think you have handled it quite well.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn’t Theo’s AI contestant number 66969? Some producer’s idea of a joke?

I have to disagree, I didn’t think that tonights show was that big of a failure. I was entertained by it, ton of commercials, but they probably had those last week too. I pay more and more attention to that sort of thing as the weeks go on. However, tonight had a lot of good singers, better selection than last night, and some entertaining bad singers.

Good Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love and something to hope for.”

I still think last night was the pits and a waste of time on my part. I understand the need to have commericals, but not to the scale they did. Give us more auditions and a chance to hear and see more of whom went to Hollywood. I can only hope that once in H’wood, there will be less of them .

Very disappointed in this weeks show. To much Kara, Kristen and Flashes of contestants and not
enough coverage of the actual tryouts (singing) YIPS!!!

Weren’t the audition shows all an hour and a half or two hours in the previous seasons? Maybe that explains the high volume of commercials – 19 is trying to fit 2 hours worth of commercials into a one hour show!

How awful that the sisters went through – the darker-haired one could not sing at all. Deirdre – again, very nice job, though Cornelius did get through.

All the back stories (sob stories, for the most part) are getting fairly tedious! Just don’t think the fact that someone has a sick kid or divorced parents (gee, isn’t THAT rare in America??!!) has one iota of bearing on whether they can actually sing well enough to deserve a shot at Hollywood!

Sorry about the Cornelius mix-up. I think it was wishful thinking on my part…or some misguided effort to correct the judges’ mistake.

I see that the 2 blogs have been separated. That’s a relief although I liked my headlines better than the new ones.

As for the show, I still say it was better than Chicago. We saw more talent although, with 31 making it to Hollywood, we could have seen much more. I’m not sure what Idol’s new strategy is on revealing contestants but I think we’re missing out on a lot.

Great job D. My favorite from last night was Matt Lawerence. I find it hard to believe that a 15 year old holds up a bank with a BB gun and spends that much time behind bars. It seems like adults do worse and get less time. If he found a new path to follow then it was worth it.

Which unfortunately might explain why 31 contestants got the golden ticket.

Morning all. And, Dierdre, you have kept the blog going without missing a beat. The only thing really missing is Rodney’s comments from time to time. Carry on!

Matt was my favorite, but no way should Cornelius have gone through. And, I am puzzled by the hurrying through of the ones that got tickets. We barely see their faces. I don’t like the fact that we don’t get to see/hear them. I like to be able to follow them from audition to Hollywood.

Good mornin’, y’all!

D, your guest blogging has been pretty awesome and on-point. What’s this about back to normal? I mean, I’m sure Rodney appreciates the pinch-hitting. I know I do. :) Oh, and I thought “Money!” was the new, hip greeting. I kind of like it.

Handcuff dude is from Marietta…as soon as I saw that, it was “Noooooo!” for me. He wasn’t just a bad singer, he came off as pretty creepy and scaaaary. I never thought anyone could make Amazing Grace sound quite like that.

I was expecting Kristen Chenoweth would be there for the whole auditions. Having her there for a day seems sort of a waste.

Also, Snookie and J-Wowww can go back to the Shore…I was NOT impressed.

And Cornelius….”you lookin’ like a fool wit your pants on the ground!”

Morning, all. So far… I’m very unimpressed with this season. There really haven’t been that many people I’ve heard in any of the auditions that I’ve said “Wow!” about. (I do remember Kara saying someone last night could be in the top 12.)

The dude in the cape that looked like a huge butterfly and a reject from the group Labelle(from the 70s) was a complete MESS. OMG.and could not sing. Those were not real friends to let him go out there and make a complete fool of himself. I could not get past the cape or the rinestones on his face and head. OMG.
American Idol is really going into the dumpster. Like someone said Simon may have waited one season to long. If this show comes back next year I will be shocked. From the tone death to folks getting a ticket that really dont sound good to folks that clearly got mental issues this show has become more of a joke than New undiscovered Talent. The dude in the cape really really took the award for being absolutely over the Top. While dude clearly is gay, he makes gay folks look Really bad. Atleast Adam Lambert had the talent and voice and look to back it up but this poor fellow. Even his friends looked a mess! Think I am going to skip watching until they get down to the top twelve. Right now its just a bunch of untalented Noise.

Did Kara make the call on the bank robber? I heard her say that “He’ll make the top 12.” Be interesting to see how that turns out.

I watch last yr. thanks to Lambert. I tried to watch this yr. but after 10 minutes each night…I was bored. I can see why Simon is leaving. I think Adam was so good the rest sound like the Glee Club. Allison was also exciting to listen to and she too is the real deal. Those two pumped-it-up and had real music people tuning in because both singers had the chops.

After Allison and Adam the contestants will be more Glee Club I am afraid. Sweet kids I’m sure– but not really ready for prime time or a record deal.

It’s obvious that without Paula Simon has absolutely no chemistry with Randy or Kara. He sits pushed off far away from the others, doesn’t interact on camera at all, and is always turning his back to get out of his chair the second they begin to finish a segment. It’s clear he doesn’t care for them, is done with the show, and wants out as soon as possible.

Prior to the quake 80% of the population of Haiti lived below the poverty line, average life expectancy was a dismal 68 years, people there died of diseases that could be prevented, not by medicine, but by something as simple as an adequate water and sanitation system. My point: I don’t know your full story, and I’m normally very sympathetic, but you’ll excuse me if my sympathies are elsewhere.

Single mom…stop being a jackass. He came over here on the invitation of his family and paid for his healthcare…just like thousands of Canadians do every year because they can’t get the treatment they need in Canada. He paid for it!

Absolutely the government should foot the bill! They footed the bill for Wall Street. And I come to the library so that I can use the PC. I don’t have internet at home because that is a luxury I cannot afford. Not everyone works a 9-5, M-F office job, you know? Some of us work in other environments with different hours.

As for Haiti…it’s sad what has happened to them. But should I die because I can’t get high blood pressure meds? That sounds like what you are saying JTESLA. And what do you call $13K for a single mother and child in America…..rich?

And if you honestly think that you’d get all the medications you need free under the Obama healthcare plan…I still have that bridge in Brooklyn I’d be willing to sell.

My uncle paid more than 30% of his income ON TOP of his regular taxes into the national healthcare system only to be refused treatment when he really needed it.

My aunt had to go legally blind before she could be scheduled for cataract surgery. After giving up 30% of her income to healthcare taxes.

There has to be a better way to provide healthcare than anything we’ve seen so far.

One other slight point:

“Those of you who have the opportunity of working for companies that provide insurance think the rest of us should just die because we don’t?”

Obviously you are not dead, so you’re welcome. I’m paying for those things that you take for granted that keep you and others alive and comfortable. Oh and all those meds for $100? proof positive that we already have subsidized health care because you know the companies that make and market those drugs get their money from somewhere. They cost far more than $100!

Glad that my fellow American’s and I could help you out with little things… like a library.

SingleMom, have you checked out the group that Montel Williams has been promoting? I think it’s called the Partnership for Prescription Relief or something like that.

And all the pharmaceutical companies have tag lines in their commercials that say “if you have trouble affording your medications, contact us.” They all have some sort of assistance programs.

Plus, check with your doctor to see if generics are available and can be described. Kroger & Walmart have hundreds of generics available at 30 days for $4 and 90 days for $10.

BTW, many of those generics that Rickster mentioned are blood pressure meds. How do I know? My mom takes them. If you talk to your doc about your needs, he’ll find a way for you to afford your perscriptions. But you wnat’em “free” don’t you?

You know the ignorance of the world and of our nation is really sad. Ignore the quake in Haiti for a minute; if Single Mom had lived her life in Haiti she would be dead by now. You wouldn’t make 13K there! You wouldn’t have any medical care, you would struggle just for food often failing to obtain any, and you probably wouldn’t even have clean drinking water.

So, how is it that the people like Single Mom who happen to live in these impoverished areas of the world end up dying yet similar people who live in the US live? Because all your fellow countrymen pay for those things that let you live. So once again, you are welcome.

I pay taxes as well out of my $13K salary so therefore I am paying myself to use the library pc. Thank ME very much. I already take ALL generic meds. And not ALL high blood pressure meds are the same. ONLY Tier 2 high blood pressure works on me and that’s $42 monthly for metoprolol (generic for Toprol XL). Just like diabetes and cancer, there is more than ONE type of high blood pressure so there is no ONE medication to take for a cure. You have to take the one that works. And in my case, it’s the $42.00 Generic. Yes I have exhausted my doctor, the hospital, Peachcare, Medicare, pharmaceuticals, health clinics, etc. They all say I make too much. FYI..did you know that a single mom with one dependent cannot make more than $9,999 yearly to qualify for ANY assistance? Where it be lodging, food, health, utility bills. So don’t think I’m getting ANY kind of a handout. Not even food stamps. We eat lots of ramen noodles. You guys just can’t stand the fact that you may be WRONG for once when it comes to people in need. That’s the conservative thinking for you.
