Michael Sarver gets a record deal

Just days after Lil Rounds signs with Bungalow Records, Michael Sarver too has nabbed a record deal:

Los Angeles, CA–Dream Records/Universal Music Group announced today the signing of American Idol’s Top 10 finalist of the 2009 season MICHAEL SARVER with plans to release Sarver’s debut country music CD in the spring of 2010. Sarver’s first single from the new album titled “You Are,” will be released nationally and on itunes this coming Tuesday, December 8. Michael is currently available for interviews in support of the upcoming singles and his current Holiday Tour with other A.I. finalists.

A bonus track, “Cinderella Girl,” will be made available on itunes along with “You Are” – the song which he recently performed live for L.A.’s homeless and needy at the Los Angeles Dream Center, which owns Dream Records, a non-profit organization that provides shelter, education, job training, and other services to thousands in the L.A. area and nationally.

I liked Michael Sarver well enough but didn’t think he deserved to be a top 10er. So I’m also surprised he got a label to sign him.

Does Matt Giraud have a record deal yet? I don’t think so. Anoop, Scott and Megan Joy don’t have deals yet either So that means six out of the top 10 have deals. Not bad!

The season with the most artists who released albums? Season five, with nine out of 10. (Lisa Tucker excepted.)

I did the phone press conference a couple of days ago with Nigel Lythgoe. He didn’t say anything all that surprising, promoting Monday’s Carrie Underwood special. I gave him some useless softball question about how much he misses “Idol” and he said he does quite a bit but is glad it enabled him to do “So You Think You Can Dance.” He also sidestepped the issue of the show not doing so well in the fall simply saying he’s glad it’s on period. He also said Paula Abdul has been ducking his efforts to get her to guest judge on the show.

Allison Iraheta tapes herself buying her own album at a Best Buy — in disguise. She is such a goof!

Remember Kimberly Caldwell from season two? She had established herself as a TV Guide Channel host the past few years but never could get an album off the ground — until now. You have to check out this rather bold cover, courtesy of the eagle eye over at MJ’s blog:

Michael and Lil have record deals? Be interesting to see how that goes. Along with Kimberly’s. I’m surprised the national Audubon Society didn’t sign Megan.

Boy. Sarver gets a record deal. Kimberly goes scary. No wonder my sis-in-law is checking out. She’s avoiding the impending zombie apocalypse.

Rickster, saw the update on the older post. I’m sorry to hear the news, but will continue to pray for you and your family. It’s nice to see your sense of humor is intact.

I too am surprised that Sarver got a record deal. I did like him on Idol, but I didn’t expect he’d win. He sort of reminds me of Josh Gracin.

As far as Kimberly’s album cover, I sure don’t find it scary at all…. but I would be scared for her if they’d turn on the wind machine.

Hey, everyone. Been extremely busy today. Semester winding down, etc. with lots of stuff to do. Rick, so sorry about the s-i-l news. I know it is probably for the best, but the pain is there for the living, and the terrible decision that’s to be made. Still praying and th inking of you and yours.

LOL @ k&cf!! “scared for her if they’d turn on the wind machine.” LOL!!

Good for Michael Sarver. I liked him on Idol and think he could do well in the country genre. Rickster may God bless and comfort your family no matter the outcome. His will shall be done even though sometimes we dont understand the outcome.

Harriett… don’t you mean “ghastly” arms? :-)

Heading out soon folks. Not sure, but the odds are pretty good that we’ll be driving north to KY again in the next day or two.

Don’t worry about us Rickster, take your time. However, if you aren’t back by January 12th I’m sending out a search party.

Rickster, you may not see this since it’s the weekend and you’re probably already headed to KY, but I wanted to add our continued prayers to you and your family.
We’ll look forward to hearing your usual wit and wisdom (?) when you’re ready but, as JT said, take your time. All the time you and your family need.

Decided to check in while awaiting the start of the SEC championship game.

“Dream Center, which owns Dream Records, a non-profit organization that provides shelter, education, job training, and other services to thousands in the L.A. area and nationally.”

Wow, how far and how fast has Michael Sarver fallen since the AI tour that he’s in a shelter in L.A.?! ;-)

And Paula ducking Nigel’s efforts to get her to guest judge on SYTYCD? What a surprise! (NOT!) She (and her so-so-intelligent agent) must think it’s beneath her to play a ‘guest’ judge.

Good for Michael – there’s an audience for all the top 10’s!. From his tweets, Matt Giraud’s been working hard at writing songs – I’m sure a label will grab him. He’s the most talented of them all.
