I love both songs, but to really get the impact of “It’s Only” you have to watch the video on YouTube. It’s very powerful.

I like both “My Best Days are Ahead of Me” and “It’s Only”. I love his power ballads and his soaring voice! This guy can sing! He sings with so much emotion and feeling.. I know he will have a very successful career!

Rickster, I don’t think they understood that you were saying country worked better for ballads than other genres. However, I contend that Richard Marx, REO Speedwagon and Journey have all thrown FABULOUS ballads out there on the pop charts and done very well with them.

I seem to recall (from years and years ago) that some rock band (I think it was Spooky Tooth) did a parody of Country ballads. Something like this:

You done stomped on my heart
And smashed that sucker flat
I’m tellin’ you, you sorta
Crushed my aorta.
You flushed me from
The bathroom of your heart
You broke my heart
So I busted your jaw.

Ya just can’t get any more heart-wrenching than that, can ya???
