Kelly Clarkson’s Q100 concert; Adam Lambert bites back at Out magazine, makes People’s sexiest; Kris Allen’s first-week sales weak

chris-daughtry-sexiest

Too much going on for me to hold stuff. So here’s a bonus blog entry for the day.

Breaking at 5:50 p.m., thanks to Kelly&CarrieFan! Q100 is hosting its annual free concert for its listeners at the Loft (capacity 650 people) with headliners Kelly Clarkson and Jay Sean (No. 1 song “Down”). Two things to note: only way to get in (besides connections) is to be a friend of Q100 online or to win tickets on the station. And Kelly will be doing a “power acoustic” set for just 25 minutes, according to Q100 OM Rob Roberts. This will not be a full concert so don’t expect one. But it should be cool in such a tiny setting. Wasn’t I just complaining about her not coming to Atlanta? This isn’t exactly an ideal situation in terms of getting all her Atlanta fans a shot to see her, but it will be a treat to the lucky few who do get in.

Not surprisingly, Adam Lambert has used Twitter to bite back at the nasty bite-the-hand-that-just-fed-you Out magazine editor:

“Chill! Guess ya gotta get attention for the magazine…U too are at the mercy of the marketing machine. … Until we have a meaningful conversation, perhaps you should refrain from projecting your publication’s agenda onto my career.”

adam-lambert-sexiest<

Lambert's also part of People’s sexiest men alive list. That was a gimme!

Chris Daughtry joins him in People, too.

Star magazine claims Fantasia is now dating a man, who left his wife and two young kids to live with her.

Kris Allen’s album version of Kanye West’s “Heartless” is very breathy and ethereal. I like it. But apparently, Kris wasn’t that thrilled with the final result, he told MTV.com. Go figure.

Sadly, he may end up with the weakest opening CD sales for an “Idol” winner. Hitsdailydouble is predicting sales of just 80,000 range for Allen his first week. I will bet that Adam Lambert will easily exceed 200K next week. Several artists will do better than him including Justin Bieber (discovered by an Atlantan), Andrea Bocelli, McDonough’s own Casting Crowns, Norah Jones, 50 Cent and former Atlantan John Mayer.

I think a better picture could have been found of Daughtry. Adam, ok that is one I don’t think we’ve seen in a blog entry yet.

Rodney, are you saying that those people listed will outsell Adam? Or outsell Kris?

Interesting — and I’m proud of Adam for speaking up for himself. He’s no fool, that young man. No one has a right to speak FOR him unless he gives them that right.

Good Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “Love is the only thing that we can carry with us when we go and it makes the end so easy.”

Good for Adam for standing his ground. This should make people respect him even more.

It’s sad that the numbers for Kris’s CD aren’t that great, but the sales made surprise us and jump.

As for as Fantasia, we see where her morals are. Not a good situtation nor example for her daughter.

Morning!

JT is so right! Both Daughtry and Lambert use mascara. Wait a minute! So does Johnny Depp!!!!! And guyliner, too, just in case people start screaming that Bronco doesn’t know his mascara from his eyeliner!

I love Glee! From the really fun musical numbers to the just as much fun plots and characters, it is a non-stop good time. The only thing I don’t like is Will’s wife who, as odd as she is, doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the cast. Her villain is jarring. On the other hand, Jane Lynch’s maddening Sue Sylvester strikes absolutely perfect notes.

Good morning. I have been having a really tough time of it, trying to recover from the virus or flu, or whatever you want to call it. I call it nasty, whatever it was. I am over the feeling sick part, but now have a residual cough that won’t let me get any rest at night. I am like a zombie this morning. Enough about me.

D, I totally agree about Glee and about the character of Will’s wife. She is creepy. I keep wondering if they meant it the way we are perceiving it, or is it the actor playing her that is informing the character with such an “ick” factor? Sue is campy-icky,the type you love to hate, but the wife is another thing altogether.

I haven’t got Kris’ CD (and I don’t know if I will, actually) but in this day and age of downloads, I think 80,000 CD sales for the first week sounds pretty strong!

We’ll wait and see if Adam’s doubles or triples that or if he gets more hits from downloading.

And I agree with JT’s comment from the last thread. I think Out magazine has just about outlived itself. When more and more people don’t seem to think it’s any big thing whether someone is gay or not (especially in the entertainment industry), the whole premise for their magazine falls apart.

Rickster, continued best wishes and prayers for your s-i-l (and the rest of the family).

I agree about Glee. They could lose the wife and I don’t think the viewers would mind one iota. I really can’t get into her character.

Harriett, hycodan (prescr.) did wonders for the monthlong cough I got from sitting in front of a coughing, sneezing nun on a ten hour flight from Amsterdam. No good deed goes unpunished: the nun had been doing good works in a poor country for a year and been sick the whole time.

Hey Rodney, do you know how many units Adam and Kris sold of their singles during their debut week. For the song Time For Miracles, Adam sold 49,000 the first week, and then saw a 70% drop the second week. For his song “For Your Entertainment” the song sold 18,000 copies the first week, and around 24,000 last week. Given the fact that “For Your Entertainment” is struggling on radio, in fact RCA has actually released the second single, after just three weeks, and the second single has been added by the number 1 pop station in the country, I don’t get how a figure of 200,000 makes sense.

Just for comparison, Kris Allen sold 15,000 units of his first single over a three day period, his single was released on a Friday. Over a ten day period he sold 38,000 copies. At the three week mark after their debuts, both Adam and Kris’ debut singles are performing at the same pace on radio. Neither had entered the top 50 on the top 40 chart, and both were at the same position on HAC, but Kris had a whopping seven more spins in comparison to Adam.

Given all of this, it seems that a few things are obvious, Adam’s fan base isn’t as big as it seems, and is probably the same size as Kris’, and all the hype surrounding Adam, much of it having nothing to do with his music, has not gotten him any new none Idol fans. On the other hand, Kris, who’s song is currently on mediabase’s top 40 and HAC chart, has a song that has connected with some people who are not fans of AI, so he has expanded his base.

Also, Kris is in the first video about People’s sexiest men issue, both he and David Cook are in the video, and both will be on the list.

Thanks, everyone, for the good thoughts and suggestions. Mercedes and D, yes, my dr. did prescribe hycodan for my cough, but I cannot function the next day after taking it in the night. It hangs on and on. And, it only puts me out for about two hours, then I am like a wide-awake drunk. I spent a half a day at work on Tuesday and actually nodded off at a red light on my way home. So, in my case, this cure is worse than the cough. I was horrified to realize I had nodded off, noting the danger to myself and others that I might have been. I was only about two blocks from home, thank goodness.

Nana, yes, I did agree with who was sent home last night on SYTYCD, although I am not the huge fan of the “dream team” that some folks are.

Morning all,

Thanks Barker, but it’s ok Kris won American Idol… really. However, it’s nice to see the numbers which show that Adam outsold Kris. I’m a bit confused about how “Neither had entered the top 50 on the top 40 chart” if either of them enter the top 50 of the top 40 chart I think that will be history in the making.

Sorry, it’s early and I haven’t taken my anti-snark pill yet.

@barker your Kris bias is showing. You know fully well that Kris was promoted differently for that single. You know TFM was for a MOVIE that NOBODY SAW till last weekend. You know Adam’s single was lost on iTunes for over a week due to FUBAR and was NOT PROMOTED except for one iTunes banner. YOu know fully well that FYE has outsold every Idol in history on Amazon, albeit Amazon is not a predictor. And you know that you spent way too much time on a post trying to prop Kris up and diminish Adam Lambert. Which makes no sense at all since neither one’s album goes/went on sale until this week. Neither one had good radio initially and Kris fell OFF THE CHART for a long time and only with promo has it come back. Disingenuous of you.

Barker wut? Hype? There’s been no radio promo for Lambert and he didn’t pick up adds until about 3 weeks ago and they were slow as were Kris’s in what September? Kris comes first as THE Idol. Adam is being promoted as a Brand. How are you going to get “new” fans when all people see is press and the album being ANNOUNCED for NOVEMBER 17 for Kris and 23rd for Adam. Your living in Idol world. The rest of America has no clue either one have singles and their albums are being promoted THIS WEEK. BTW I have 475 copies of FYE and other songs my browser automatically retains when surfing and didn’t even know it until I knew it. These guys singles have been streaming and on utube so they are marketing “give aways”. RCA even says they do that to avoid too much piracy the lead up week. Every year sales will decrease with today’s technology depending on the demographic. Over 40 or so will BUY music. SuBo was on QVC and is going to mop the floor with American Idols imo.

Harriett — sip only a tiny bit of the hycodan, just barely enough to dribble down your throat and calm the coff — instead of taking the whole dosage at once — i pour out the dosage into the little cup, but then sip it along AS needed — doesn’t make me quite so zombie-like the next morning!!! spreads out the codeine AND the coff control… works best that way for my kid, too

For those who like Susan Boyle:

(CNN) — Susan Boyle, a 48-year-old unemployed charity worker who became an international sensation after her audition for “Britain’s Got Talent” in April, can now lay claim to a new achievement.

Her debut CD, set to come out on November 23, has become the most pre-ordered CD in the history of Amazon.com, the online retailer said Thursday.

Eager fans began ordering copies of the CD, “I Dreamed a Dream,” as soon as its release was announced late summer, pushing it to the top of the online retail chart ahead of Whitney Houston’s much-anticipated comeback CD.

“One of the things that is so unique about Susan Boyle is her ability to touch people around the world,” said Steve Barnett, the chairman of Columbia Records, in a statement.

Before she sang during her audition in April, the unassuming single woman with a loose mop of curly hair drew snickers from the audience, including notoriously hard-to-please judge Simon Cowell.

The scowls and eye-rolling were replaced by wild cheers as soon as she sang the first line of “I Dreamed a Dream.”

Even though she eventually lost out to a dance troupe in the TV competition, her pitch-perfect rendition of the “Les Miserables” number catapulted her into an overnight sensation with a string of global television appearances.

Lets’s see, for whoever said that Adam’s song was lost on itunes, it was also available on Amazon, other online retailers, and oh yeah, Adam’s site, people didn’t need to go to itunes to buy it. But if they just wanted to do itunes, it was on that site for five days. With all of that it still only sold 18,000 the first week, and 24,000 the week after. BTW, I’m not saying these are bad numbers, they just aren’t numbers that indicate that Adam will sell 200,000 albums in his first week. They sure aren’t numbers that indicate that Adam has done a lot better than Kris, since the numbers are the same.’

Uhm, for the snarky one, the top 40 chart, also known as the CHR/Pop chart ranks all the songs, but of course the biggest accomplishment is being one of the top 40 songs on that chart.

OH lets update NOW. As it turns out Lambert DID sell just short of 200,000 albums his first week coming in third to only Subo and Andrea Bocelli. Now, in April he’s sold over 600,000 more than double Kris Allen. HIs single is platinum, he’s charting internationally with gold and platinum in other countries. He’s Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100 Hits Chart, Number ONE on Billboard Dance Chart unseating Gaga, been in itunes Top 10 for the past two weeks and about to embark on headlining his own tour in venues the size of Lady Gaga’s last year. He was the first contestant to mentor American Idol and is selling out every venue he has had one-offs in. The first summer tour venue sold out in 20 minutes. Speaking of which his Fantasy Springs casino concert sold out and Cooks’ at a neaby casino that same night did not. I’d say he’s doing “fairly well” for being the first openly gay singer at the start of his career. And coming from Idol, which normally garners zero respect.
