Kellie Pickler goes red, Carrie Underwood loses to Taylor Swift at the CMAs

As a presenter at Wednesday night’s Country Music Awards,Kellie Pickler, for the first time, dropped the blonde and went reddish-brown . Shockingly, she looks good though I expect she’ll go back to blond soon enough. She also fills out her dress nicely, of course.

Later in the show, Randy Houser’s little son looked peachy keen happy sitting next to Pickler. The cutesy tot even gave her very presence a thumbs up. Good taste, young tyke!

Taylor Swift broke Carrie Underwood’s three-year stranglehold on Female Vocalist of the Year.

Underwood sang “Cowboy Casanova” in a questionable pink gown and spangly short shorts. But she manages to pull it off.

As host, she doesn’t have the comic chops of Brad Paisley, her co host, but the pair do have chemistry, which is why the CMAs brought them back. She did do the song parodies with aplomb, even the lame “Swife Flu” song in place of LeAnn Rimes’ “Blue.”

The other “Idol” connection is Daughtry dueting with Vince Gill with acoustic guitars for a ballad called ‘Tennessee Line.” I like this song a lot more than most of Daughtry’s rock-pop singles.

Actually, I think Kellie’s currently a redhead. As far as Carrie, I enjoyed it. Her performance was um, quite not what I expected, but definitely enjoyed it. And of course, the “Swine Flu” song was just for me! Isn’t she a sweetheart? ;)

Great CMA show. The music seems to be returning to its roots. Kellie and Carrie were hot, even Kenny Chesney with his five gallon head in a ten gallon hat didn’t look that bad. Sorry…guess I’m just missin’ Willie and Waylon and Hank. I apologize in advance…this post has nothing to do with Idol…and the awards show seems to have everything to do with Idol. Bowing out now but still wondering why Reba can’t afford to buy an upper lip.

Good Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “What lies behind and before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

Saw the CMA awards last night and was pleasantly surprised overall. Kellie Pickler’s new hair color didn’t work for me. It made her look older and didn’t suit her, imo. Blond is her color. Really enjoyed the performance by Daughtry and Vince Gill “Tennessee Line”. Thought they did a good job on it. The harmony was right on. Taylor Swift, what can I say about her? That girl is golden. Beating out some of the biggest names to take Entertainer of the Year! Plus female vocalist and album of the year.

Now on to Carrie. Was she hot or not? Brad Pasley wasn’t just whistling dixie when he said she had 14 changes of clothing. The outfit she wore during her performance (Rodney described it above), I’m not sure I liked it. IMO, the red gown was the best. No matter what she had on, she looked good. Right guys?

More on the CMAs later.

Morning!

I wanted to say this yesterday but got distracted. I felt that Taylor Swift would win Vocalist of the Year…not so much because she’s a good singer(anyone who listened to her show opening song could agree with that. She hardly hit the right note through the whole song) but because Kanye West was a total idiot a couple of months ago and Taylor Swift took the brunt of his idiocy. The voters are still trying to make her feel better.

todd, my husband’s brother is here visiting and we went to Longhorn to eat last night. The music playing was all modern, pretend-country music and we were all wondering where Willie and Waylon and Hank were. But Taylor Swift was playing in the background and she’s not much better out of a studio than she is live on the CMA’s.

Hi y’all.

Carrie, hot, definitely. JT, here you go: http://twitpic.com/p6ydl (You’re welcome, buddy!)

As far as the CMAs, I can see why Taylor would win Entertainer of the Year, considering she’s probably the best known country (lite) artist out right now. That said, her winning for Female Vocalist was a total joke! I am sorry, but she was all over the place in both songs she sang, especially the opener. I’ll have disagree with her deserving that award. Her winning EOTY I can agree with, but when it comes to singing any of the other ladies in the category sing circles around her, and I’m not just alluding to Carrie…but oh, well, she won. Not surprised.

So, yes, Kanye is a a$$hat, hopefully now we can move on from it? Don’t get me wrong I I do not like him, but I’m ready for everyone to stop talking about him. In the end, isn’t being talked about what he actually wants? Time to stop playing into his game.

Morning all. Sorry I’ve not been around this week. We’ve been in Louisville KY. My sis-in-law was in a wreck Sat. PM. She was talking afterward. But when she got to the local hospital they did tests and she was air-lifted to UofL Medical Center due to bleeding on the brain.

She is not in great shape. Docs couldn’t give us odds on her longer term prognosis. But they said she could be the way she is (unconscious, unresponsive, on a ventilator) for weeks.

No offense… but I really couldn’t care less about who won (or shoulda won) what or who looked hot.

Not criticizing anyone who does. After all… AI does provide a nice distraction. I’m just not real distractable right now.

Hey Rickster. I understand your current lack of concern about the trivial things we normally talk about here. But as you know, we’re all thinking about you and your sister in law. I just posted a shot of Kellie in red. Geez. I knew it was kind of reddish when I saw it on TV but decided to say brunette at first. My color-blind issues at hand! (I have trouble with the brown-green-red spectrum. Missing rods or something, as my eye doctor diagnosed many years ago. Very common among guys.)

Thanks, everyone. Got off the phone with my wife, who talked to the hospital the AM. She had a tracheotomy last night that she made it through. It’s good news/bad news. Good in that she made it through that. Bad news in that they only do those when they think she can’t come off the ventilator for quite a while.

The nurse made it sound like she was a bit more responsive today than she was yesterday. If she’s better… it’s marginally so. But no bad news is good news.

Just a little catching up from the things I missed:

1. Kellie Pickler: Not good as a redhead. Mentioned several times (last on 11/6 @ 11:58AM) that she was going to be on EMHE.

2. Carrie Underwood: I may have to reconsider my “Top 10 most beautiful women in country music” list.

3. Deidre: That whole “Brian May & Roger Taylor ’sniffing’ around Adam Lamber” post brought the most horrible visual image to mind. (shudder)

First, Kellie Pickler looks terrible in that picture!!!!

Harm, Greg’s friend Daniel is currently at Walter Reed recovering from his injuries. He lost both his legs, broke his jaw and his pelvis, nearly destroyed one hand and severely injured his arm. A week passed after the explosion before anyone was sure whether Dan would live or not. He will be fitted for his prosthesis and will undergo a year of physical therapy. His parents are currently taking turns flying back and forth to DC to be with him. His brother lives in that area. There have been a number of fundraisers held in Peachtree City to help his folks with the plane fare. Dan himself has remained in good spirits and worries about his fellow troops still in the war zone.

D: Your son’s friend Dan may have been featured on the News this am before TODAY – in the 6:00 hour. There was a story about a young man whose parents were taking turns going up to be with him in his recovery. Said they own a business, and friends have been helping them out so one could be with him all the time. I was not totally paying attention (who can at that hour trying to get contacts in and makeup on!), so may be wrong, but the story sure sounds the same.

Heather, thanks for posting the link to the tv story on Dan…who is now affectionately referred to as Lt Dan. (anyone who has seen Forrest Gump will understand the reference). I had been to his web site a couple of times. Mostly, Greg keeps me up on the latest Lt Dan news.

The world is full of difficult things and Daniel seems to have risen to this occasion in a way I would never have expected from his younger days. I threw him out of my house once for throwing lighted matches into my microwave…….no, I have no idea WHY he was doing that! He was 14 at the time and 14 year old boys can be very strange.

All we can do is pray that we are given the strength to overcome the hard times we must endure, and to remember who is in control..

That’s the one. I always watch WXIA news – consider it the best in ATL, however they always pick just when I’ve put my blusher on and am starting on the eyeliner to put the tearjerker stories on (let me add, I cry at any commercial with a dog in it), and I end up trying to blot up the mess on my face. Wish they’d save these stories for 6:00, when I don’t mind a tear or two! Anyway sounds like this fine young man is doing extremely considering the circumstances, and loved that his dad said “….we’ve got our son back”. Nice.

Dodie Goodman! omg D, i’ve not heard that name in what seems like a century … well half one anyway, right? i can’t decide if i like it (the pickler look) or not, but one thing i can say…it’s DIFFERENT!

Hubby came home with a live orchid plant — it’s beautiful — and a sweet gift, if i don’t kill it!! thought that counts…i’ve got to find a place that gets plenty of moisture, isn’t too cool or too warm, and find some orchid food, lol… but it’s worth it!

auburn in town this weekend, it will be busy but as i’ve said before, the Auburn fans tend to be the most courteous of any in the SEC. We like for them to come to town, and they seem to tip well, too *grin*

My parents used to be big Dodie Goodman fans so I remember her pretty well. That’s who I think of when I look at Kellie’s picture above.

An orchid plant…how lovely! And a nicely romantic gesture.

Mercedes? Are you around. Hubby and I want to go to a movie this afternoon but can’t decide which to see. Do you have any suggestions? I’d like to see Precious but I’m not in the mood to get beat up by the subject matter today. Also, it’s becoming pretty obvious that you see many movies before their actual release. I’m interested in what you do….for selfish reasons, of course, since I mentioned before that Mr Hollywood is interested in returning to the Atlanta area. If you want to keep it private, email Rodney and ask him for my email address. I’ll let him know that it’s ok to give it to you.

D – “Precious” is such a downer movie, and I just feel really low right now reading all the sad news about injured people – I’ll be praying for your Lt. Dan too – I’d hold off on “Previous” for the moment if I were you. For “uplifting”, hubby and I had a great time at “Pirate Radio”. Brought back memories from my childhood, living in the Old Country, listening to Radio Luxemburg. Fab cast – Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ivans, Kenneth Branagh, and Emma Thompson in a bitty, but unforgetable part. Oh, the music!

Also enjoyed “2012″. It was exactly what I expected – a bit of “Poseidon Adventure” here, some “Earthquake” there, no emotional involvement whatsoever. Fantastic special effects. Woody Harrelson a hoot. Director Emmerich a bit of a coward though. Saying he didn’t want a Fatwah come looking for him, he ruins every Christian edifice he can find – the Vatican, the Christ Statue in Rio – but lets Muslim buildings stand.

And btw, that “Mayan calendar prediction” is a total hoax.
