Wow! I was pleasantly surprised. Dare I say that Danny’s single – amongst those idols who have released so far – is the most representative who of he is as an artist? The first thing I thought after I heard it was that it’s Danny – the raspy voice, the soaring parts, the phrasing, the lyrics. I think it’s a song tailor-made for him, which is why I think this single actually works. I have never considered myself a hardcore Danny fan or a Country fan, but this is good work right here. Out of all the songs that have been released from this year’s idols, I actually think this is the best. Wow, who would have thought?

“It’s Only” is tailor made for the kind of music Danny has always represented himself with as a performer. It is also the kind of song that is tailor made for Country pop fans – in the mode of Rascal Flatts. And it has the whole distinctive Mark Bright and Lady Antebellum production all over it. This is not the type of song that will likely be a huge hit in the mainstream, teeny bopper, hip hop, MTV rock crowd. But that was never the intent. Danny accomplished what he needed to do with the debut single – that is, keep the fans happy but also reach out to new fans in Country Music. “It’s Only” works because Danny stayed trued to who is as an artist. This is a very topical song and with it’s holiday release, I can see this being a big win for Danny.

morning gang, i too have been simply swamped at work … but i peek in every once in a while to get a “fix”

smile, Deirdre? nope. a serious groan and moan and struggle to get out of bed and face yet MORE liquid. And since we’re not in Florida, I can’t even call it “liquid sunshine”. Ugh.

still trying to figure out how to fete my hubby this weekend… we’ll have to celebrate Sunday, which will be the 1st day of the 41st year, so…

Lovely picture of Syesha Mercado on front page of New York Time’s Arts Section, being fitted for one of the 17 wigs she wears in a new production of “Dreamgirls” at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Syesha plays Deena Jones, the Dreamgirl who supplants Effie as the lead singer. Beyoncé played her in the movie. Good interview too, with Syesha and 2 other actresses.

I like Danny’s song and hope it does well for him.
