Kris Allen video for ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ is out, David Cook interview forthcoming

kris allen video

The winner of this year’s “American Idol” now has a video for his single “Live Like We’re Dying.” Yah, that Kris Allen guy. His single has yet to make it to the top 40 and is now at No. 42 on the Hot AC charts. At least it’s still climbing. It’s actually a pretty catchy tune, even if the title evokes that Tim McGraw song.

In the video, Kris sings in what appears to be an abandoned warehouse with a black grand piano, ripped drapes, wind tunnels and a clock that is ticking downward. The song title says it all.

-I’ve procured an interview with David Cook next week. Please email me your questions for him at rho@ajc.com. Cook fans, please send this out to the fan pages so we can spread the word! He’s coming to the Tabernacle on November 23.

- The parent company of “American Idol,” CKX Inc. reported a fall in revenue of about $10 million in the third quarter. It was related to a dropoff in “Idol” tour sponsorship (note those Pop Tarts were absent) and reduced music and management revenue.

- Carrie Underwood’s “Play On” is set to sell about 300,000 copies the first week, Billboard said. That’s way down from the 527,000 “Carnival Ride” sold its first week on the way to nearly 3 million copies. But the times are far different now. Sales keep on falling across the board so relatively speaking, 300K is not bad.

Looking forward to the interview! David Cook is a good guy.

So I’m not the only one who is not blown away by the first single from Kris?

Kris’ single reminds me of Nat King Cole – and not because he sounds like him. It’s because the song is “Unforgettable.” Very disappointing.

For all you “Flash Forward” fans, is that the same warehouse the “Blue Hand” group was hanging out in last night? :-)

Kris has a nice voice…but he’s still not very exciting.

JT, I saw Zombieland a few weeks ago. Funny in spots but it gets kinda repetitive after awhile. The Bill Murray cameo is a hoot however.

I thought Bil Murray WAS a zombie! :-)

It’s just Bill Murray’s career that is a zombie. It kind of fits with the Kris topic to be speaking of zombies.

Um…I like Kris well enought, but I’m with Mercedes on the whole “doomsday” craze. No thanks.

Times for albums sales sure are different. I recall when selling about 290k was basically deemed a failure. Like, say…the first week sales of My December? ;) It’ll be interesting to see how Play On does as time goes on. The “expert” reviews have been pretty mixed so far. Personally, I’m enjoying it. Though, I’m far from a music “snob.”

American Idol Auditions we wish we’d have seen. “Slim Whitman” (One-time staple of the late-night informercial whose sold more records than Elvis!)

Randy: “Dude… I LOVE the jacket. With all the sequins… that’s some serious BLING! The singing, however… for me… it’s just a’right.”

Kara: “The whole country wardrobe/vibe isn’t working for me. It detracts from the artistry. But you took that song and made it your own.”

Ellen: “You must have been a carpenter before you became a singer… ’cause you just nailed it!”

Simon: “I love the sideburns, but your name matches your chances of winning this competition.”

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Be back Monday.

If you’re so inclined… please keep the folks at Ft. Hood in your prayers.

On Entertainment Weekly’s “The Must List: The Top 10 Things We Love this Week”, the number one spot is owned by Adam Lambert and his “For Your Entertainment”. Comments: “We had no idea we were holding our breath until we exhaled in relief: The debut single from the Idol runner-up is dance-jam joy. The groove and lyrics are frothy fun, and that voice goes all the way to the cheap seats”.

See-worthy movies opening today:

“The Box”. Couples faced with quirky opportunity to get rich – press a button in a box, kill someone you don’t know, and you’re a million dollars richer. Cameron Diaz has trigger-happy finger.

“The Damned United”. Soceer movie with very litter soccer (which we don’t understand anyway) and a lot of human interaction. True story about the roller-coaster career of England’s most abrasive football (that’s what they call it over there) coach. Michael Sheen, from “The Queen” and “Frost/Nixon” stars.

“An Education”. Set in Sixties’ London, 16-year old girl takes up with Older Man. Peter Sarsgaard is old guy, Oscar-hailed newcomer Carey Mulligan is kid. And no, you don’t think once of Roman Polanski.

“Precious”. Nor for the faint of heart. Another coming of age story, about a very different 16-year old: illiterate Precious is fat, unloved, ridiculed at school and at home, where father rapes her and mother beats her. Salvation comes in form of social worker (unrecognizable Mariah Carey) and teacher (Paula Patton). Oscar noms await Mo’Nique (Monster Mom) and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious).

Movies to avoid:

“The Men Who Stare at Goats” Nonsensical road movie about off-screen wars, in Iraq and Vietnam. George Clooney’s war veteran believes himself to have psychic abilities – if he stares long enough at a cloud, it breaks up, and once he focused so strongly on a goat that it keeled over, probably from boredom. Some pent-up goats are freed, nothing else really happens.

“The Fourth Kind” Silly alien abduction drama, mixing staged documentary and “movie” footage. Milla Jovovich stars in “movie” part.

I understand soccer just fine……movie reviewers should not make assumptions.

And I don’t care how nonsensical “Goats” is…I’d watch George Clooney read the phone book.

Other than that, thanks, Mercedes, for the reviews.

Rodney, which charts are you using to get Kris’ numbers? He’s currently at number 40 on the mediabase top 40 chart, and 24 on the HAC chart. He’s ranked in the low 30’s on the billboard adult pop chart, and just for kicks, he’s ranked on the billboard Christian music chart. His ranking on the billboard top 40 chart isn’t too far behind his mediabase ranking.

Mercedes…I think I’ll see both! ;-) I’ll Netflix Goats when it’s released.

Thanks for the updated rankings, Barker.

Kris Allen came through nicely with this smooth, quietly stylish piece. Even though I’m a far bigger fan of Adam Lambert, I’d say that this song is superior overall to “For Your Entertainment.”

Taylor Swift did really well on SNL! Her comedy skits were actually way better than her singing.

Good Morning Everybody..

Today’s Quote: “Live your life in such a way that you would not be ashamed of it”

I trust everyone had a wonderful week-end and enjoyed the nice fall weather.

From all appearances, it looks like a very slow week-end on the blog. I know that not much is happening with the idols. I did watch “Extreme MakeOver” last night and Kellie Pickler was just a darling. I loved that she left the little girl a pair of glittering shoes. I thought that was a wonderful touch from Kellie.

Morning!

What a good weekend we had…football-wise. Congrats to Tech(now #7 in the BCS rankings) UGA and the Falcons.

Then we learn that the rain from Hurricane Ida will, indeed, dump itself on us. That’s what we need…more rain! :-(

I’m going to have to watch some of those Taylor Swift clips online. Didn’t catch SNL Saturday. Anyway–was a bit late on Danny Gokey but his single is now up. And yes! Kellie Pickler on “Extreme Makeover.” Check out the clips in the new blog entry!

Please ask David Cook if he watches/likes “The Sons Of Anarchy” and if he’s ever been on a Harley?
Love David Cook & The Anthemic, by the way, and look forward to your interview.
