Ryan Seacrest has new reality show: regular folks beg famous folks for cash! And Idol tweets!

MelodyThornton-01-big

Hollywood Reporter says Ryan Seacrest is producing a new reality show in which average citizens beg for cash from celebrities and moguls.

The eight-episode run will start Dec. 14 on E!

In “Bank of Hollywood,” a panel of notable names takes pitches from Americans in need of cash. The proposals range from a do-gooder raising money for charity to a grad student who can’t afford a ring to propose to his girlfriend. “The idea’s simple,” Seacrest said. “We are giving away tons of money to everyday people to alleviate the stress of today’s climate and have fun.”

Okay, these so-called celebrities are not exactly A List. The story lists folks like Candy Spelling (Tori’s mom), poker player Vanessa Rousso, Wilhelmina Models president Sean Patterson and Pussycat Dolls singer Melody Thornton. Yes, that’s a Pussycat Doll nobody remembers! (But I posted a gratuitous picture of her above left anyway!)

-Jason Castro proposed to his girlfriend over the weekend and she said yes. He started dating her last year but has known her since high school. Sorry, ladies!

-And here are some tweets from our Idols the past 24 hours. Chris Sligh was in a minor car accident and the cop response has been a little slow. Adam Lambert is in promo mode. And Diana DeGarmo? In admiration mode.

ChrisSligh Just came up on a sudden stop in traffic on I-24, I stopped in time, Budget truck behind me stopped without hitting me.

Pac-Man doesn’t seem to like a certain word that begins with P and is another name for a domesticated feline.

Well, that’s a loose definition of “singing” when it comes to the PCDs. Still, I’m sure the boys appreciated the picture. Definitely better than Candy Spelling…

As far as Twitter, Pickler, David Cook, and Kris are usually funny tweeps.

Who iz dat?

Yes I read the blog, but I still don’t get it. I like Ryan, but that sounds like an awful show. Can reality TV sink any lower?

Now I can continue to bash Twitter as being mundane and inane.

JT and Rickster, I second your comments on Twitter. Who needs it? (Although I am always happy to see anything about Diana D on the blog!)

Rickster, I think the implication is that Ryan put down a ‘bet’ that this show would last more than 2 weeks.

All those tweets and the only thing we know is that Chris (whom I happen to be a fan of) doesn’t understand that the local police might have more important things to deal with then to respond immediately to a non-injury accident. Let’s see: respond to an injury accident, respond to a crime in progress, or hold the hand of someone in a non-injury accident as they exchange insurance information? That’s a tough one! Not enough police for you? Lobby to have your taxes raised so that you can pay to hire more officers.

Is sharing all this useless data really the best our society has to offer?

Yeah, JT, but we did learn Pickler is relaxing to a burning lavender candle…isn’t that important data???

I would find it important if Pickler mentioned that she was naked. Then I’d know to slather myself in lavender wax.

I’ve been looking at Twitter all wrong, I think I need to start tweeting. Instead of going on with my boring life and telling the world every boring thing that I am doing I will tweet about my bowel movements. Yes folks, fear the tweet that contains only four letters C-O-R-N. It will be the pinnacle of western civilization. Digital data worthy of saving for all time.

Of course… a nice massage would help her relax better than a lavender candle. I happily volunteer.

Yes folks you heard it right, with Christmas right around the corner, Melody is my favorite PCD.

I hear from a reliable source that Carrie’s new CD is great and is currently on continuous “repeat” mode!

But I’m sure Carrie’s truly worried about having to compete with Brooke What’s-her-name! (At least that’s what some sap at the Houston Chronicle thinks!) ;-)

Okay, I submit a new poll question:

Who should we blame more for these exceedingly stupid reality show concepts? Ryan or the network brass that keep saying yes to all kinds of “reality” fodder because it’s much, much cheaper than producing a real television show?

It’s like all these really stupid TV commercials that come on. Besides not having a chance in Hades of selling me on the product, I sit there thinking, “What moron in charge at this company approved this commercial? Was it their idea to insult the intelligence of all their potential customers?”

Oops! Just fell off Linny’s soapbox there! :-)

Deirdre

I think we’re going to have to blame the viewing public. When a reality show doesn’t make money it’s pulled out of production. Obviously there are some good reality shows out there but most of them are pure idiocy.

Highlander, as I’m the “very good authority” you mentioned, yep!! Carrie’s CD is still on repeat at work. Keeping me going today through a very ugly moment or two. As for reality tv, the problem is definitely the shlubs who are watching this lame stuff on TV. Really, do we NEED more cameras to follow a celebrity around during their day?

Nana

Good Morning.

I wouldn’t waste my time to see Ryan’s new show. Whoever in their right minds come up with these reality shows can’t seperate reality from real life. Let TV get back to what is once was, nice, wholesome family type shows (sitcoms). Bring back shows the whole family can sit down and watch together without the nudity, sex and four letter words. I know this is just my opinion, but in a sense TV has purely gone to pot. There are a few good shows (not reality) that are on and worth the time to watch and enjoy. I guess that I’m just an old fogey and old fashion that I enjoy the early tv shows, such as The Golden Girls, Little House, Highway to Heaven, Touched by an Angel, 7th Heaven, to name a few. Shows like these are so obsolete, that producers and creators think they can’t sell them to the public viewers. The bottom line is that they only see the $ signs, and that is their only concerns. They promote sex, drugs and alcohol, and then are in amazement when young impressible kids end up in trouble by doing something they have seen on TV and thinks it’s cool! In real life, these TV scenes that the kids think are so neat & cool, can end up with the lost of a life. My question is, “Is the dollars worth a child’s life?”

Okay, think I have said enough so I will get back to doing laundry and cleaning.

Hi y’all.

Nana, I agree. TV certainly has gone downhill…and it’s not what it once was. Golden Girls is/was pure genius and still funny now as it was then. I really can’t stand almost all of reality TV, but can’t be too harsh on it since it did lead to shows like Idol. I do also have a problem with parents who let TV be their child’s teacher. I mean, I grew up in the 90s with shows like 90120 and Melrose. The latter I wasn’t allowed to watch, for example. I don’t know. I just think parents need to be more engaged in their kids lives, without trying too hard to be the “cool older” friend who lets them get away with almost anything. JMHO.

So, anyway. Danny Gokey has a new single out today. It was written by the guys from Lady Antebellum (Charles and Dave). Tangent: I love Lady A. It was produced by Mark Bright (Carrie’s producer). So they’re definitely giving him the “star” treatment. Haven’t heard it yet, so no clue how it is.

p.s. even if i was serious, my husband would — well, let’s just say if someone put a camera in his face to do a “reality” shot with him, the cameraman would be toast, and i would be attending my own funeral…

da man would, i have NO doubt, kill me deader than a doornail if i even THOUGHT about putting HIM on a so-called reality show, LOL. He doesn’t even like to have is picture taken casually, much less someone invade his privacy! really.

BTW Linny congrats! These days 40 years is an amazing feat. I haven’t done anything my life for 40 years… I haven’t even been alive for 40 years. Well, unless you count womb time, but let’s not go there.

Congrats on 40 years, Linny! That is truly something to celebrate. I’ve only been married 5 years, but it has been a wonderful journey to undertake together and I am looking forward to an anniversary as special as yours someday.
So, I don’t really miss Highway to Heaven or Golden Girls at all, but I do miss some of the better 30 minute comedies that used to fill my evenings. Friends and some of it’s contemporaries were really entertaining. The closest thing I have to those now is Big Bang Theory, which I adore. I’ll be glad when most reality programming dies it’s eventual death and we get some good scripted tv back.

Rickster

Actually, I think we can blame unions for the current sad state of affairs on TV (especially “reality” TV.) When the screen actors went on strike, followed by the writers, networks & production companies really boosted the number of reality shows they put out – since they didn’t require “real” actors and scripts.

And I’d rather look at Carrie Underwood in a burqa that shows only her face than that picture of whoever she is at the top of the thread. :-)

Congrats on 40, linny. Hubby and I will hit 30 next July. It would be longer but I totally effed up with my first choice for a husband. Learned from my mistake and made a much better choice the second time around. Thank goodness!

As for the sitcoms…..I LOVE The Office, Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. I thought I was going to like Modern Family but, after the pilot, the others haven’t been that good.

I don’t mind the language, the violence or the sex on most tv shows but I don’t have little kids in the house so that might have something to do with it.

I heard the song by Kris Whatshisfacethisisanoldjokebutistilllikeit on the radio last night. It was ok, my mind started to wander about half way through and I forgot what I was listening to. It’s amazing how his song has the same effect on me as his performances on Idol did last year.

Rickster, blaming the union sounds like a “What came first the chicken or the egg” type scenario. Even though we all know the egg came first (seriously) but I can’t think of another comparison regarding a circular argument right now.

Nana RE:9:49 post I agree 100%. I watch very little TV anymore due to the lame excuses for programing that is on. A couple of reality shows, Friday Night Lights, New Adventures Of Old Christine, House and sports are about the extent of it. Oh and if I have to sit through one more police drama I will get ill. I do like to watch TV Land to see wholesome quality TV. I guess I am just getting old. I have a large collection of concert videos that get the most play on my TV.
